i need more music with drumming like this...i like djent and prog metal but im trying to find a band with a lighter sound that does beats like this. sick grooves btw i love the feeling when i get "locked in" to a polyrhythm when im playing one
@aaronedgardrum You can check out adventure stamina and anger on this awesome resource we are using to get an idea, but they have a lot of amazing weird time sig grooves that a lot more laid back.
@levenorion yes. it. is. you dipshit. if bands use it enough to be recognised for that technique, then that becomes a generalisation which is a genre you twat
1:31 Not really that djenty. Djent hardly uses beats like that where you use snare so it makes the beat sound kinda fast-paced. Can't really explain but whatever..
I'm new to djent,i think the easiest way to play drums(djent) is to have a cymbal crashing every one beat and a snare every 2 beats and the bass drums plays the guitar rythm.am i right?
@gianniswildchild Yeah dude, I found out after posting this that my definition of Djent wasn't quite right... lol I think that technicality is why I have so many dislikes on the video. My bad! :)
@xXxAsiLayDyingxXx Negative, it's called a Mitsu Tomoe. I'm not really versed in it's history or it's meanings or anything. I actually just found this out right now, "Originally, it was associated with the Shinto war deity Hachiman, and through that was adopted by the samurai as their traditional symbol." Neat! Thanks for asking, made me actually look into it!
I was originally drawn to it because it's been used on Taiko drums a lot.
@djredmon1990 Nope! lol every time someone whips out a double bass shuffle it has to be hot for teacher apparently. :P In that sense, sure. It was Hot For Teacher.
I should redo the intro of that song to upload as a rebuttal :P
@axedstoninst Thanks man! it's almost a sleeve now, I've got the bottom half started. Gotta get some touch ups and outlines finished, then the elbow.
It's hard for me to get the elbow done, cause finding a week where I'm not working out or drumming for it to heal properly is damn near impossible lol
I used to drum for about 6 years but due to various reasons haven't had the time to play in the last 2 years. I used to drum polys all the time but..just watched this again as I'm saving for an electric kit to practice hard again and it is a total mindfuck! lol
I don't have too much money to spend, it is a toss up between a Yamaha DTX550K or a Roland TDK9K2. Got any suggestions? I'm looking to spend around $16-1800 or so just to start. I want to make sure I get value for money though and something I can run through a laptop though I am not sure if you can get anything that does that for that price these days.
Also, as a side note, I am currently listening to Periphery - Insomnia while I type this out!
Well to run it into a lap top, all you need is a midi output and afaik every module should have that (you just need to make sure your computer's external audio interface accepts midi, but you can get those cheap. Profire Lightbridge springs to mind).
Also, look into which module will allow custom sounds imported. The Roland for sure doesn't, but the Yamaha might, that's another selling feature, then for some stuff you wouldn't need to haul a computer too! :)
@iHoady DTX550K cant go wrong with it just needs some adjustments in the module but VST(virtual trigger software like EZdrummer is where it sounds like real drums the metalheads expansion is even better so best of luck with your drumming
@rockexpert haha they're all Hammeraxes! In fact, if you click "Show More" in the description of the video, I list all the ones that are in this video :)
@rockexpert haha they're all Hammeraxes! In fact, if you click "Show More" in the description of the video, I list all the ones that are in this video :)
@HeavyMetalen666 Oh absolutely man! The stickings in the videos are just an example. I base my sticking pattern on the phrasing I'm going for. These videos are all just really quick how to's. Eventually, probably next year I'm going to do a members only site that will cover everything in WAY more depth. That being part of it :)
excellent, ive been hearing alot more of longer single strokes with the kicks than what was featured in this video... but hey just half time the snare in this video and focus more on the kicks to sound like that lol
@aaronedgardrum oh and by the way, now that we're talking: are there any four way independence exercises you'd recommend for like jazz stuff? i think you're the kinda guy that can help me with that :)
@allmetaliswelcome Oh absolutely! John Riley has a couple AMAZING books for that stuff. The art of bop drumming and beyond bop drumming. If you want something you can try before you head out and grab those books, which again, I highly recommend! Try keeping your swing ride pattern going and create odd rhythmic phrases between your other three limbs, for example, make a seven note phrase that will go over the bar line under your ride pattern :D
@thelinedrummer Dude, Mike Johnston already has a wife so can you please get off of his dick? Jesus. According to your comments, all of us drummers may as well stop playing and just bow down at the throne of Mike Johnston. Mike is a great drummer and teacher, NOT God! Guys like Aaron, @LukeSnyderMusic and myself are only trying to share ideas with other drummers, just like Mike is. Keep up the great work, Aaron!
As for doing a song, I'm totally into that and it's coming for sure. I'm not willing to do covers, but there will be originals up definitely in the near future. Also, lessons on Meshuggah double bass is actually something I have in the works. I was going to do a video on Bleed bass drum variations, where I take that idea way out side the box. It'll be up at some point in the next six weeks for sure. :)
@aaronedgardrum I love hertas on the feet, one really cool variation is to bomb blast with hertas underneath instead of straight 16ths, that one is brutal!
@TheCommonDelusion Thanks man! People seemed to be most into the more metal oriented stuff I put up, so I figured I'd just give them what they want and start gearing most of my videos that way :)
@aaronedgardrum Something that you maybe should do.. Is some original song or some cover.. Because you know.. the lessons are great, but it give you more variety.. Also, teach some techniques (like meshuggah double bass) and that kind of "hard" stuff :)
3:17 reminds me of the intro to Space Boogie - Jeff Beck

@iWentToNam Djent is was a term derived from when you pick a chord hard at high gain so it makes that "Djent" sound that currently infatuates people.
