  • Utter bullcrap this royalty thing and monarchy! I thought the Enlightenment has done away with birthrights and the whole Holy by birth crap! Give me Democracy or give me death!

  • This is a truly holy liturgy of the coronation where our sovereign vows to God and her country to rule justly and to protect the weakest in our society. Perhaps it would be a good thing for each new government to do likewise.

  • True royal magic !!! I´m only 25 so i thibk there is a good chance i will be alive to see both Charles and Wiliams coronations. I wish we would have kept the coronations here in Sweden too !

  • So they should bow...

  • Per Divina Grazia Regina|!

  • Prince Charles won't and should not abdicate. He has been prepared and waited to be king his long life. As for The Duchess of Cornwall she has turned into a great member of the Royal Family and i am sure she will be a great consort to the Future King.

  • once the Queen passes after a long reign, hopefully Charles will abdicate so we won't have to endure him and Camilla. Then William can be King

  • @TheAnglopride William is next in line to the throne :)

  • @ghurter Charles is

  • @sarabower1 oh ok . last i heard william was haha. must have been some confusion.

  • I think this is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen on youtube

  • It's nice to see Winston Churchill walking in the coronation procession. He deserved it much more than any other person in the British history.

  • @MarkFox88 I totally agree

  • I wonder if the next coronation will keep the religious tradition of the ceremony or will become more secular to reflect current times..

  • @flackz16 it will be pretty much exactly the same. they are not going to up and change it to make some paki or irish catholic scum feel better. boo hoo. england for the english

  • @iancmcintyre Hey, don't make fun of Irish Catholics! Remember Anglicanism is close to Catholicism albeit without having a pope and the clergy can marry! But I hope atheists and/or moslems don't stop this Christian ceremony from happening again one day.

  • @benmont777 irish catholics are bums and dangerious as all damnation. i lived in londerry. dont think they are less of a threat to britian then the others because they look like us in the face. I've seen catholics do things you would only think some sick muslim would do. deep down catholics have no place in the UK. Cromwell should have snuffed them out.

  • @benmont777 When moslems attempt their take over, all Christians are gonna have to unite no matter what! But let us not argue! I mean no harm! God Save The Queen! God Save The Queen! God Save The Queen!

  • @flackz16 It has to be. The King or Queen is the heal of the Church of England so religion is well part of the ceremony :)

  • @SirVanarian What will be interesting to see is what will happen when the unjust laws barring a Catholic from the throne are repealed. Will the coronation be conducted in the Catholic cathedral, led by Catholic bishops, with a Catholic Mass? That would be a beautiful sight!

  • @PhoenixLament87 That won't happen soon as there are plenty of heirs in the Royal family and they are all Protestant as far as I know :p

  • @PhoenixLament87 We are more likely to see an Orthodox coronation first. Prince Charles is more or less Orthodox already, and occasionally spends time on Mt. Athos. Extracts from the Orthodox funeral service were sung at Princess Diana's funeral.

That would be an even more beautiful sight.

But frankly, I doubt either will happen.

  • @PhoenixLament87

Nothing happens, because the parliament could still object. the new souvereign would have to face a huge wave of opposition of the people.

  • @PhoenixLament87 Not a chance I'm afraid. The Liturgy and Promises of the Coronation are utterly tied in to the State Religion i.e - The Church of England. As a Non-Conformist (URC) I'm not exactly delighted about it either!

By the by - why should it be in a Catholic anything - their are plenty of great Synagogues, Mosques, and other Christian Denominations and faiths that need to be represented as well.

  • @meknight77 Well, a couple reasons why a Catholic ceremony would be appropriate. 1) England is historically Catholic, and 2) the current law specifically bars Catholics, or anyone married to a Catholic, from succession to the Throne. A Catholic monarch, or even a Catholic consort, would be a significant step forward for religious freedom. My ideal would be a Catholic monarch as head of a Catholic state, which tolerated all religions and in which the state was divested of the church.

  • Wonderful and gorgeous Religious Royal Pageantry.... may it never be lost to us, heaven forbid. And SO appropriate that the Divine Coronation was of a Female as the new Queen! Feminine Divine Glory.... Thank you.

  • 2:25 behind the Lord High Chancellor (the guy with the judge's wig and the baron's coronet) is his page, none other than Andrew Parker-Bowles (aged about 13) camilla's ex husband.

  • Who's the lady behind the Queen Mother?

  • @bobby777knight the woman behind the queen mother is her mistress of the robes, the dowager duchess of northumberland. dowager queens also have a mistress of the robes. regards

  • Can anyone tell me the names of the people who walked in the procession from 6:28 onwards? I recognize the Queen and her six ladies-in-waiting, the Mistress of the Robes, the Queen Mother and four pages carrying her train and Princess Margaret

  • @bobby777knight after the queen's mistress of the robes, there is her page who carried her coronet. then the groom of the robes (in the navy uniform), followed by the ladies and women of the bedchamber. then the master of the horse, the vice admiral of the UK, gold stick in waiting, her private secretary and staff of the royal household, equerries and yoeman of the guard. after princess margaret its the duke and duchess of glouchester

  • @TheAnglopride

Thanks for the info! It would be nicer if they didn't cut out the entire video so we can see other people besides the leading players

  • The commentator included the Prime Minister of India among the Queen's Prime Ministers. For his information India became a Republic in 1950..And The Queen is no way concerned with India..thogh she was Head of State of Pakistan for a brief period..

  • Comment removed

  • @coolview66 india and pakistan are still members of the british commonwealth of nations, even though the queen is no longer head of state

  • i know she was very young at the time, but HRH Princess Alexandra of Kent looks almost unrecognizable in this footage!

  • Although I love and respect the late Laurence Olivier (latterly Baron Olivier) I must say I found his commentary here at times intrusive and self-consciously actorly. At one moment, I thought Richard III had been exhumed to do the narration...

  • who are the women in the front row of the royal box. i can see the queen mother, princess margaret and princess mary the princess royal. but who are the others?

  • @TheAnglopride In the front row of the royal box from left to right: HRH Prince Michael of Kent (I think he's there); HRH Princess Alexandra of Kent; HRH the Duchess of Kent (Princess Marina); HRH the Princess Royal (Princess Mary); HM Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother; (briefly) HRH the Duke of Cornwall (Prince Charles); HRH the Princess Margaret; Prince William of Gloucester; HRH the Duchess of Gloucester (Princess Alice); Prince Richard of Gloucester.

  • sir lawrence should not be talking during the national anthem

  • Of course they do, you ninny! Didn't you just see it! The commentator is talking because it was televised....helllllooooo. It will happen like this again, when Prince William is crowned. Yes, I know what I said, NOT Charles, William! Only WILLIAM could be King. He's the only one clean and noble enough that God would put on the throne of England, even if it was just to honory the Tudor, Windsor and Mountbatten name...it could ONLY be WILLIAM...son of DIANA...

  • Just like a Presidential Inauguration, I do not think!!!! Proud to be British !!!!!

  • how do the women stop their coronets from falling off? and what are the songs played after god save the queen?

  • @TheAnglopride

"Gloria in Excelsis" by Charles Villiers Stanford

  • wow thank you for uploading this!!!!!! God save the queen. I got to meet the queen she is an amazing woman. Long live Her majesty the QUEEN!

  • @honeybee7700

    good for you

  • why didnt prince philip become prince consort? i thought he would be called that instead of duke of edinburgh?

  • @TheAnglopride

"Prince Consort" was the special title granted to Prince Albert by Queen Victoria because she couldn't make him "King Consort" as she wanted except by an Act of Parliament that was unlikely to be passed, and she didn't like giving him a Royal Duke title as though he was just another one of their children. QEII could make the Duke of Edinburgh officially "Prince Consort" if she wanted, but they both probably think it unnecessary

  • Can you tell me the name of the song we here in the beginning of the video please ?

  • @RoyalofLuxembourg

"All people that on earth do dwell" (Old 100th Psalm) by Ralph Vaughan Williams

  • @RoyalofLuxembourg: Old 100th Psalm, All people that on earth do dwell: arr.Vaughan Williams. I searched it on Google. Very nice tune!

  • There's a reason they call it "Great" Britain! Long live our Queen!!! xo

  • i cant wait til it is Prince William and Princess Catherine up there in those splendid robes! they will be fantastic as King and Queen!

  • @michaeljacksonlvr0

You have to wait for a long time. King George VII. first ( Charles will not use "Charles III.").

  • @michaeljacksonlvr0 I wonder if we can skip the no.1 in line... :P

  • @michaeljacksonlvr0 Let's hope that foolish republicans and the ever growing atheist and moslem populations won't prevent this Royal & Christian ceremony from occurring in future.

  • @michaeljacksonlvr0 you can't wait? That means that HM The Queen and Prince Charles have to die rather soon eh? They will be fantastic monarchs, but I can wait plenty.

  • @michaeljacksonlvr0 The throne will be first Prince of Wales, then Prince William and Kate but if the Prince of Wales will give up the throne in favor of Prince William so he would be next but Camille did not get to be the wife of King diana was coming to the throne long live our queen

  • @michaeljacksonlvr0 you may wait 60 years

  • @michaeljacksonlvr0 amen!!!

  • @michaeljacksonlvr0 ......Me too! I hope I live long enough to witness Prince William's Coronation. It's many years away though. It's possible he could be his daddy's age right now when it happens.

  • @2468HOTROD hopefully the queen lives as long as her mother, to 101. by then charles will be about 75, hopefully he'll abdicate and make way for william :)

  • @michaeljacksonlvr0 I hate to be so technical, but Catherine is not Princess Catherine. She is The Princess William, much in the same way that Sarah Ferguson was never Princess Sarah. She was The Princess Andrew. However, tradition being what it is, each of the Princes was created a Duke, thus making his wife a Duchess. Catherine is formally known Her Royal Highness The Princess William, Duchess of Cambridge, Countess of Strathearn, Baroness Carrickfergus.

  • @JustJim70118 i don't think she is princess william, because her husband holds a peerage ie Princess Michael of Kent, etc. i think she's just HRH Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, Countess of Strathearn, Baroness Carrickfergus.

  • @JustJim70118 You are correct except for one thing. Prince William is not a child of the sovereign, so he is not entitled to the pre-nominal definite article; as such, there is no "THE" between his HRH style and his princely title. When his father accedes to the throne, he (and his brother) will become entitled to that honour.

  • @michaeljacksonlvr0 Wait a minute its going to be Prince Charles not Prince William going to become King.

  • A oath to god for her people which she has kept till this day. There's people out there in this day and age can't even keep a oath to god in marriage vows including her son and thats a vow to only one person. She took her vows seriously as a Christian maybe if people did the same society would be a better place

  • The queen had one younger sister, Princess Margaret, who died in 2002 after an illness of several years.

  • does the queen have siblings i love the ceremony its soo spiritual and beautiful when when are we going to witness something like this.

  • i hope in my next life, I am born queen of England.

  • @overummqualified In my next life I will be a Corgi....

  • Poor HRM...I bet that crown weighs a tonne...and she had a sore neck and a headache afterwards

  • @HUGHIEDIXON. What and leave the world at risk of the occasional American Wackjob (re : W. Bush) doing a very bad impression of decency, Ha. Off with your head.

  • It is magic! It's out of this world!!

  • 2 people are uneducated communists

  • @cidzoo and fugs

  • Out dated and a hindrance to the development of mankind that is what the royals are.

  • The Queen Mother was the only one in the family, aside from Queen Mary, who was a genuine professional. Notice the elegance with which she acknowedges the people on both side of the aisle as she processes.

  • Long Live the Queen!!!!!!!!!

  • This ceremony will never be repeated in the UK.

  • @mc0558 It will when Charles is crowned.

  • I wonder if they passed the plate...

  • @msdiediedie

As a matter fact, the oblation--given to redeem the sword offered at the altar--was an altar cloth of cloth of gold, and an ingot of gold of 12 troy ounces. I think that the Duke of Edinburgh gave a gold coin for himself.

  • nauort23 - this is a cinema version of the recording of the Coronation, with narration recorded by Laurence Olivier.

It was never broadcast live, so there was no interruption of the national anthem at the time.

  • Princess Alice was my favourite royal, the oldest ever living member of the royal family (died in 2004 at 102) and I like how she bows slightly to acknowledge the people who are curtseying and bowing as she and the Duke pass.

  • I love seeing the Royal Family processing with their attendants after The Queen at the end of this clip, but we only got to see HM Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, HRH the Princess Margaret, TRH the Duke and Duchess (Princess Alice) of Gloucester, TRH Princes William and Richard of Gloucester and the last member we see is HRH the Duchess of Kent (Princess Marina). We miss TRH the Duke of Kent, Princess Alexandra and Prince Michael of Kent and HRH the Princess Royal. Pity!

  • Wow. This is so solemn

  • Larry's really laying it on thick, he's reaching for the very last row. Great stuff, God Bless Her Majesty.

  • While the queen was being crowned, Koreans, are dying fighting each other in the far east.

  • The music after the national anthem is the "Gloria" from the Communion Service in B-flat by Charles Villiers Stanford (1852-1924). In this film, much of the music does not seem to match what is being shown; in the actual ceremony the Gloria would have been heard towards the end of the service, but before the recessional and the national anthem.

  • Does anyone know what the music is called played after the national anthem?

  • Apparently 1 person doesn't have any clue what history and tradition is.

  • That´s what´s England has been missing. A great funeral, a great coronation ceremony, changing the pound sterling face to Charles, and a few years later, another set of events then to William!

  • I think that only with these embroidered, velvet and ermine robes can a human being at all resemble a peacock.

  • congratulations on your spelling!

  • Queen Elizabeth, the wife and widow of King George VI, always carried herself with such poise and grace and above all kind regard for people around her. Even The Queen was eclipsed in her presence. Queen Mary was the same but without the connection with common people. Queen Mary did not think it dignified for a Queen to smile in public.

  • @mc0558 "You must never show your emotions in public". But there are a couple of photos of late Queen Mary graciously smiling in public. It would have been wonderful if HM was alive to see this glorious moment of her granddaughter. She was the first to curtsey Queen Elizabeth II when she arrived from Kenya, after King George VI's death.

  • I think QM must hold the record for being the first to curtsey to newly ascended monarchs.

  • It's difficult to say since it was a private occasion. Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother curseyd twice to her daughter when she arrived and left Westminster Abbey for the coronation. Queen Frideriki and Queen Anna-Maria of the Hellenes also curtseyd to each when the latter married the first's son, King Konstantinos II.

  • @MrPeterMichael Where did you see the Queen Mother curtsey in this clip? I forwarded and rewinded it but still couldn't find it

  • @wintersnowman i dont think the queen mother has to or is required too

like the husband of the queen is not required to bow or call her by HRM...he cud call her lizzy in public if he wanted to

    im prob wrong

  • @daedralord1 No she has to be called HRM. Not in private i assume, but in public its a must.

  • @daedralord1

AFAIK her parents called her "Lilibeth".

    Sweet, hmmm ?

  • @wintersnowman

At 3:36, at the top you can just see the Queen Mother, Princess Margaret and the other ladies in the Royal Box curtsey as the Queen goes past.

  • Why is the commentator talking through the first verse of the national anthem? As much as other things have slipped since 1953, I don't think anyone would do that today.

  • Yes indeed, especially since he says nothing but waffle!!

  • @pipeup1 What's "waffle"?

  • @nauort23 waffle is to say something but to really say nothing - just superfluous talk.

  • Like "twaddle"... lol. Thanks.

  • @nauort23 My thoughts exactly!

  • @nauort23 He also said what was actually a prayer, which I thought was ..... well ..... remakable.

  • @nauort23 This is the worst job Olivier ever did! All his most hammy qualities emerged. Why he so completely lost it, I have no idea.

  • @mc0558 Envy. It's clear he always wanted to be England's reigning queen.

  • @nauort23 :-D

  • @mc0558 -- I disagree. It is beautifully narrated. If Olivier was moved, so be it.

  • @nauort23 There is nothing against that unless one is actually there live at the ceremony itself. The commentator obviously wasn't and spoke the text to this film later.

  • Having said that, I do not mean to imply that it is of genuine significance, either imply or deny.

  • Mamma mia!

Do such things actually happen on this earth?

    Breath-taking!!

  • @mc0558

not often; qe2 is already head of state longer than all her 4 precessors ( eduard7, george5, ed8, g6) together.

  • @rivenoak What did I write that provoked this message?

  • @mc0558

Happens and will happen again in some years i think.

QE2 turns 85 in april 2011 and is ( since 2007 dec 20) already the oldest monarch in english history and would become the longest ruling monarch in sep 2015.

But a lot more, even 15 years more, so she could match her mum's age ? i doubt it.
