  • How to ruin your reputation as a game developer: openly admit to plagiarism.

Double Fine is doing just fine making their own ideas (See kck.st /zcwGdv ). So is Board Raptor Games (Twitter: @RaptorCannibal )

  • @draco18s this is how the gaming industry has worked for ages. All the popular games are just built on popular concepts of other developers.

  • @spyderman4g63 There's a difference between "inspired by" (see: Minecraft and Dwarf Fortress) and "blatant ripoff" (see TripleTown and YetiTown).

  • And with one video, East Side Games lost pretty much all of its potential players.

  • @tallaussiebloke really. You think the average causal gamer is going to care?

  • I agreed to what he said, except when he said Harvest Moon came from China...

    Japan dumbass.

  • Also this might of been funny if it wasn't just a sarcastic dick hypocrite. Every flash game is copied.

  • who fucking cares they all make half ass shitty games in which they are all copied. Sarcastic comedy is pathetic when one still continues to drone on....

  • @sammallory79 You obviously didn't watch the whole thing

  • That was satire people. He was deliberately being a douchebag and pretending to be Zygna's CEO. Also, everything he said is correct. There's been a bunch of AMAs on reddit recently from Zygna employees confirming how morally bankrupt this company really is.

  • Seems like alot of people don't pick up on sarcasm. Look at where it was, they had to come say something like that. As much as it hurts Zynga has made habitual gaming mainstream and the amount of new players that journey to other games must also be pretty significant. If you're stupid enough to buy zynga coins then more power to you!

  • Wow, Jason Baily is a bastard. :|

  • Although you would love to think of yourself at the same level of Zynga, you are insignifficant tiny compared to Zynga.

  • I firmly believe you can still make a ton of money without being a c*ck ninja. It's true there's no (few) original ideas anymore but blatantly ripping a game, re-skinning it and adding a +1 to some / all features here and there is dodgy if you ask me. Also considering he has connections / shares in clonga, it adds less weight to him as an indie giving them the thumbs up since he has a vested interest anyway.

  • are u serius? more dislikes then likes? this guys hilarius

  • If you want to make a ton of money, this guy probably has the right idea. But not everyone makes games to make a ton of money.

  • this guy is cool he's not bullshitting

  • Wow. People just don't get sarcasm these days...

  • Comment removed

  • Remember the name. Jason Baily. What a douche.

  • Im pretty sure this is jokes.

  • So what's he trying to say here? Words are coming out of his mouth but all I'm hearing is, "HEY EVERYBODY I'VE GOT A REALLY SMALL DICK"

  • lol, he never work for zynga, its a quite satire

  • Satire.. I hope.

  • What a jerk

  • SimTower, released in 1994, that's all I need to say

  • @nemirc Unfortunately only similar concept there is a tower. This is all.

  • What a piece of shit. And he's proud of it. Ugh.

  • Guys this is satire...

  • faggotry

  • Usually swearing covers up for a lack of intellect.

  • Heh, nice Satire... It's really what happens in the gamedev scene right now.

    /applauds

  • @AtelierLucid Do you always inappropriately capitalize words you don't understand? Are you asking for help?

  • These guys don't design indies. To design indies you actually need to DESIGN them, not rip them straight from other places.

  • If you guys are all so upset, keep in mind that things like SOPA, PIPA, and ACTA would probably fight against this.

  • @sluggo163 No. SOPA, ACTA and PIPA would fight against people using copyrighted material such as using a copy righted song in a video. Ripping off someones game and calling it yours isn't infringing on copyrights as long as you can prove that you didn't rip off the game exactly.

  • @sluggo163 You have NO idea what you are talking about.

  • Great talk.

  • Did I miss something here? This guy is making fun of Zynga using sarcasm/satire thereby using that same self-deprecation on himself (since he makes similar games). I found it pretty funny. I think the intent is that he was trying to be a douchebag.

  • @Drathy I'm pretty sure he has no clue that he is self-satirizing.

  • This talk makes me unhappy. :(

  • Calm down dears. The guy's trolling you all.

  • I wish I could hate this guy to death.

  • murder everyone who makes flash indie social gaming bullshit

  • Me thinks he is full of himself

  • How does it feel to be a parasite?

  • I have a feeling a number of audience members in that room were being paid to laugh at his jokes, because it seemed to be that every time he insulted something or swore, someone in the audience would laugh, pathetic really.

  • I'm an indie (and was there) and I thought it was pretty funny - perhaps because I don't take myself too seriously. He poked fun at himself and the social games industry and indies all in one go.

  • @JakeBirkett Maybe you find random cursing and someone insulting the work you do to be so hilarious that you can't understand what he's actually saying. To each his own.

  • @grumpyzaq24 Cursing doesn't bother me and I understood perfectly what he said, and that doesn't bother me either. Guess I have a thick skin. As you say, to each his own.

  • @JakeBirkett Didn't say it bothered you, just entertained. I was trying to work out what it is you might have found funny, and that's as close as I could figure. You're right, he was making fun of you but not the industry. I get the desire to want to be in on a joke, but having a thick skull and a thick skin aren't the same thing.

  • This guy is awesome

  • Man, this guy wins the douchebag award of the year.

  • Two words: Zynga sucks. Yet at the end he applauds them.

  • I've never heard about this guy or his company.... Notch sent me here

  • He appears to be a legend in his own mind.

  • He's right about social gaming and how incredibly shit it is, but he IS still a dousche.

  • He might be a douchbag, but he speaks the truth about social gaming environment at the moment. He is open about copying idea, trashing other properties and making money whilst doing it. A lot of people watch this video want to be him, though the majority of us hope we never meet anyone like him.

  • this guy owns

  • I hate this man.

  • What a douchebag...

  • DId you lose your handle for your lightsaber? Looks like it.

  • Zynga's "+1" is that their game is designed to make you give them money so you can play more. Good job idiot.

  • Well, great! Let's just let this guy and Gameloft fix everything that's wrong with the industry. Seems like they've got it all figured out. #asshats

  • Cock, But honest

  • Notch pwned him in the ass. 1:54

  • Very interesting video and talk. Just left me wondering how much it takes (per day) to become a professional douche bag.

  • Man, what an asshole.

  • i don't get why he had to say anything about NimbleBit vs Zynga, just talk about yourself and your relations with Zynga and your methodology to rip other people's ideas and then shut up

  • What a thoroughly unpleasant man.

  • @RichardOlpin It's satire, lol.

  • Is he fucking stupey? If they go legal on his ass, they can use this in court to hammer his ass. He openly admits it is stolen, virtually per pixel. I can hope one day He gets his ass handed to him. He is a complete fucktard, of the nth degree.

  • What a vile, self-serving prick.

Did some insurance company pay him to give that talk, so everyone stops writing games just to cut off his 'supply of inspiration' and go write financial software instead?

  • Thumbs up if georgeb3dr brought you here. Compared to this douche notch has more then just SOME integrity.

  • This seems like parody.

  • This guy is hilarious. Zynga may be a bunch of heartless bastards who exploit their users' human instincts and make a whole lot of money from it, but as indie devs we can learn a whole lot from the way they make games.

  • @BenRyanYT wait 'til someone else makes it, then shamelessly rip it off?

  • @BenRyanYT How? By copying pixel for pixel. Inspiration is one thing. Plagerism another.

  • All the characters in Zynga games wear swimsuits if you enter the name Jason Bailey.

  • Thats fucking pathetic.

  • I'm not watching this unless someone can guarantee a gorilla comes on and punches him in the throat at the 3 minute mark. It's my new game concept. Monkey cunt punch turbo.

  • @kingponk you need a lot more thumbs ups for this comment.

  • @kingponk But if he survives it, he'll "make" a game called Chimp twat strike super, a game "based" off of Money cunt punch turbo.

  • @kingponk Ha!

  • So the short version is: "Zynga copies games, other developers have copied games, so it's okay if I do it, too. You're poor suckers, I make some money, Zynga is fucking rich." - stretched to 6 minutes with some witty humor. Hrm... I'm not sure I like that attitude.

  • @Cygon4 didn't see any witty humor, just a douchbag swearing

  • What an arrogant prick

And the worse thing is that Zynga is suing someone else for copying THEIR (blatant ripoff) games.

The industry is full of little boys with small penises it seems

  • What a total fucking scumbag.

  • Who the hell are his audience and why are they clapping

  • how the fuck is this idiot pretending he is an indie game developer? he should fuck off and work for an oil company where he belongs.

  • I think what people are kind of missing from the experience is that these gatherings have been going on for pretty much 2 years straight and these talks tend to have similar topics. This was a refreshing talk. What's even more hilarious is that the other two talks by Vandendyck (a hardworking indie dev who balances full time employment and his own soon to be released project), and Baxter (built his company right out of school) have about 1/50th of the attention that East Side Games got here.

  • Wow he insulted the audience and they applauded him. Do these people have no self-respect?

  • @bholinka I guess you can't tell, but I certainly did not applaud him.

  • If I saw this guy on the street, I'd drive past him... but really think about punching him.

  • I don't think ripping off a game like tiny tower, making it a bland generic piece of crap and add in some social elements is really a "+1" as Jason says, the average joe won't know Tiny Tower but others will and dream heights and stuff like it in that vein will never be as good in a way.

Funny he didn't mention Minecraft though...it has NO social elements, no "shiny" graphics and yet it's 20 million users strong?

you keep doing what you do Jason...

  • Not sure if trolling or just cynic..

  • Wow. What a prick. Sad that he is Canadian.

  • Comment removed

  • What a patronising, morally bankrupt penis.

  • Why are the idiots in the audience laughing?

  • why to they clap to this fucker?

  • Sociopathic asshole, that's what he is.

  • Hot garbage.

  • It makes me sick how much you love being a horrible piece of shit.

  • @Jason Bailey. You're a talentless, leeching hack that doesn't deserve a single dollar. You love zynga because it makes you rich. Rich at the expense of the developers who do the hard work and take all the risks. Get a life.
