every bypass patient gets at least one mammary artery graft, many get both but if a vein graft is needed this method is much more invasive, practically painless and with a tiny scar, also the vein is not handled or squeezed during harvesting so there is much less chance of intimal damage that may lead to blockage later.
thank you for the info. Since I wrote this I have done a rotation in CT surgery. This is the same technique used in the OR. I perform a sticktie to the proximal vein, place two clips (facing different directions) then bovie the tip. Helps with hemostasis - especially with the heparin running. Great video!
