Thanks for the Video....I watched it before I did mine. It took me about 30 min but I had a bit of trouble removing the ignition coils from the adaptor and also a bit of trouble pulling the socket out when I installed the new spark plugs (the socket kept on getting stuck on the spark plugs instead of coming out when I was pulling them out) Anyhow, thanks and If you are trying to figure out if you should do this job yourself you should go for it!
I bought a 02 Honda civic ex and I didn't know if it was vtec because the black cover that is on the valve cover says Honda on it. But when it gets in high RPMS you can hear the screaming. But I called the guy who had it and he said he swap that cover because the other one broke. and my motor was also stamped D17A2
@Kennykid2002 Not worried about a VTEC solenoid, this gen. VTEC engines look way different than non-VTEC engines. Mine's non and it looks 100%like yours.
ANYWAY! Thanks for the video, very helpful. What size socket do you need for the plug?
Hey thanks for the upload, but did u have to mesaure the distance of the spark plug, idk how to explain it but i hope u know what im talking about. someone put a nitckel between it to spread out the plug did u have to do that on the new ones or did they come already pre measured for the car?
And what you're referring to is "Gapping" the plugs
No, I didn't, these were already pregapped and didn't need adjusting
But if you were super mindful of these kind of things, you can plug up a feeler gauge coin at a hardware/automotive store for about 50 cents and gap them yourself.
the first coil you removed is cylinder 1? I need this information very badly. Actually, i changed coil and spark plug and still engine light is showing cylinder1 misfire. Any suggestion.
hey one of my spark plugs was loose when I was replacing it with a new one and it was all brown in the cylinder. i think when my dad was checking them a couple weeks ago he didnt tighten it enough. is this okay??? I hope he put them in right now...is it even hard to install them wrong?
this video could had been so much shorter

@FloydRoseDiscovery Yes it is. The D17A2 vtec switches at 4500 rpm. It would not be vtec if it were a lx or dx, as those have the D17A1.

How i supposed to know which NGK i can use for my car?
I have a Dodge Avenger, 1997 with 2.0 DOHC engine.
I don't have the finest idea what plugs to choose from NGK. Is there any website or video that shows how to find a good replacement?

Never mind I didn't see the specification in the video, but do you know what we are supposed to calibrate the spark plugs to?
SDTricker 6 months ago
@SDTricker
Plugs should be gapped 0.039-0.043 in. (1.0-1.1mm)
Kennykid2002 6 months ago
Thanks. Very Helpful.

Hey man, do you know what the torque specifications are for the plugs?
SDTricker 6 months ago
You're car isn't a Vtec.

Chu mean homie?
Just cos the VTEC solonoid isnt in view dont mean its not a VTEC
And if u knew better, EX is a VTEC engine.

ViperDemon67 6 months ago
@ViperDemon67
It's a standard 5/8 spark plug socket
if you have the same generation vic, you have the
D17A1, This is a D17A2 engine
Looks exactly the same, except the internals, and the VTEC solenoid.
Come join us on civicforums if you want to learn more about your civic

Thanks Kenny! Great DIY video!
Can you do one with you changing the air filter?
Thanks,
Marko
markopolloyo 9 months ago
@markopolloyo
No problem
Air filter is pretty simple,
You see that black box above the valves where I'm working on the spark plugs?
just take a 10mm socket, or a phillips head screwdriver, remove all the screws and remove the black box cover.
Your filter is inside of it, simply remove it and replace it, then close it up.
I can't really do a video since I don't have the stock intake anymore, I have a Short Ram Intake installed
