I'm glad this movie never came out. The story of Juice Crew should be either told in documentary form or by the streets, period. Honestly I'm almost kinda glad this isn't happening. Sure it sounds good to us fans of this rap era, but I have a feeling they'll ruin the concept by cheesing it up to appeal to a mainstream audience. I say we just continue to appreciate the Juice Crew for what it was, and still is to each of us.
@cityratt <------- you are wrong sir because I heard some of the juice crew saying the actors would be getting alot of info from the real memeber of the juice crew so sad that you hope they didnt make this movie it just shows us real juice fans how fake you really are to be call a juice crew fan
@TheCaneCorso All I'm saying is that they'd most likely be consumed with appealing to a mainstream audience instead of the fans who would truly appreciate it. As a TRUE FAN, I wouldn't want the era to be misrepresented. I'd love to see this made, but lets face it, the chances of them doing this the way they should are null, regardless of who they're consulting with. I'm glad it's been scrapped. Not everything needs to be made into a movie. Don't agree fine, but I'm no fake fan jack.
@TheCaneCorso Makes perfect sense to anyone with any common sense. I grew up in Brooklyn New York in the middle of all this. Maybe that's why I don't NEED this movie so much. Only a fan would be concerned that it wouldn't be done right, and I don't have that much faith in the entertainment industry these days, so I say again, I'm glad it was scrapped. I'd rather remember the Juice Crew for what it really was, and not some fake, watered-down Hollywood rendition. Still "dont make sense" right? Duh
@cityratt yes you still not making any sense I just told you the actors was getting all there info from the real juice crew stars so what you are saying really dont make sense unless you mean that you want the real juice to played there own parts now that I can understand you must be a KRS fan I can tell
@TheCaneCorso Damn right I'm a KRS fan, I love that entire golden Hip Hop era, and I find myself constantly defending it against new age bubblegum rap lovers. People are entitled to their tastes. I didn't mean that this would've been a guaranteed disaster... it might have been great, but chance favors the possibility that it would've been an inaccurate rendition that would leave the fans who remember the times... disappointed. You don't have to agree to at least understand my point.
Apparently it's been scrapped, the people behind it couldn't raise the cash to get the project into production. A crying shame, considering how many rappers and a particular CEO are on Cribs and the like bragging about their wealth and yet this film ends up cancelled from financial issues.
the whole current rap and hiphop INDUSTRY need to pay for this film as the JUICE CREW can easily be noted as one of the top groups to really set rap on the map. Well we can hope.
Yea but the ones on Cribs are those cornball, mainstream commercial artists who are so far removed from REAL hip hop it's a shame. Bunch of pop singers who can't sing... so they call themselves rappers. They don't know real rap I wouldn't expect them to contribute to something like this.
That's true but someone like Russell Simmons who does (or at one point did) know a fair few things about the real deal and who is an iconic giant in the music field could bankroll the entire project from his pocket change.
As Genius/GZA said on "Labels" it comes down to stingy people with short arms and deep pockets.
I suppose in fairness other priorities such as creating the BabyPhat line for Kimora were more important than supporting a film about a culture that made him a multi-millionaire.
Maybe I'll get to finally learn what happened to Mister Magic. Friday night he was the host and Marley was DJ'ing. Saturday night Magic was gone, Marley was the host and DJ, and the show was now called "In Control". When Marley asks Big Daddy Kane what happened to Magic he gets on the mic and says "I had to step to the man". I remember this ish clearly from 20 years ago and always wondered what drama took place. Anyway the show was 1000% better when Marley took over.
@DJBezoNY I'm not trying to be a thorn in your memory but Marley actually left a few months earlier and Magic had Kev E Kev & Chilly Q alternate as DJ's. Then all of a sudden they were gone & believe it or not for 1 weekend only Chuck Chillout hosted the show with Funk Master Flex as his DJ. The following weekend Marley was back as the host but if you remember a young Pete Rock was the DJ for In Control & most of the Juice Crew came up there for weeks dissin Magic!
@musiqgem Thanks for the memory check. After 20+ years my version is all I could remember until you broke it down. You are absolutely correct. I don't remember Chuck and Flex on there though. Either their time was so brief like you said and I happened to actually go out that weekend or I started listenening to KISS since Marley was gone. Off topic, Chuck and Flex went back to KISS after the on BLS show? Peace
@beehyve2000 Yeah Chuck went right back to Kiss & Flex used to carry his crates but I'm not sure if he ever quit Kiss because when he had hosted that one weekend at BLS he said on air Yeah I know it's crazy but I'm not sure how long it's gonna last! The reason I remember this so well is because I couldn't believe a DJ from Kiss took over the Rapattack time slot & to this day I don't know the circumstances surrounding Marley leaving the first time or why the Rapattack & In Control was canceled.
@PlanetHarlem : KRS didnt kill the juice crew. He killed MC Shan. The Juice crew was on top. They had stars & spitters that were better than KRS even though KRS was dope. He couldn't touch G Rap & Kane
@TheSonsOfLight See...you have to remember at that time G rap and kane wasn't even down with the juice crew. the juice crew was basicly Marley, Mr. magic, Biz, Shan @ Shante..KRS..left Biz out of the 'the bridge is over soooo...4 out of 5 sounds like murder to me. Plus ...as much as i THINK G Rap and Kane are dope ..I KNOW that "Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone"...them included.
@PlanetHarlem : what are you talking about Kane & G Rap wasnt down with the Juice Crew? How old are you? You sound crazy. Here are the members of the Juice Crew. SHan, Shante, Biz, G RAp, Kane, Craig G, Master Ace,Tragedy, Dimples D, Glamorous, Black Poet,Marley,Kool V, & Mr. Magic. The most famous members are Kane,G Rap,Shan,Shante, MAster Ace & Biz. I'm Listen to teh song Juice Crew Allstars from 1986 then tell me G Rap wasnt in Juice Crew.Everybody on In Control vol 1 was Juice crew fool.
@PlanetHarlem I love KRS but BDP was not as successful as The Juice Crew. A crew full of stars, some who sold many records too, well after the battle. Even Shante career got bigger after The BDP battles. Her most noted singles are from the 1988/89 era even up until 1993 she was poppin. & is considered on of the greatest Female emcees & battle rapper/freestyler .period. & Marley is making millions of his catalog alone. He was the Golden Era
@PlanetHarlem Wrong, G Rap & Kane were down with the Juice since '86! Kane was a writer & live DJ for Biz & Shante before he released his stuff. Sorry just because they weren't mentioned in BDP's record doesn't mean he named the whole crew & just because Marley was attacked in that song doesn't mean he got murdered. Marley's producing & engineering career never got killed by anybody, just Shan's! The KRS over Kane & G Rap thing can be debated but no way he reigned supreme over the Rakim & P.E.
@musiqgem bottom line, KRS is The best rapper to ever touch a Mic (EVER) and if you say the Juice crew had one MC that was better your either a lost member of the juice crew, on crack or perhaps 19 or 20 years old. Possibly all of the above. If your young (under 21) sorry..you don't know anything about Hip-Hop. Luckly for you "The Teacher" has taught many of lessons. You can Start with the "Sneak Attack" Anything before that would just be lost on you. Your Welcome. Fresh for 2010 YOU SUCKERS!
@PlanetHarlem I bet you that most people would have KRS #3 or #4 on their top 10 list of emcees from the golden era behind Rakim, Kane, G Rap & maybe even Chuck D! Most hip hop heads will admit that Kris is wack now & has been on a steady decline since the millenium started, all he does is talk & preach now & he's off beat when he trys to rhyme. I Got Next was his last official banger & when he released Spiritual Minded is was a rap for him. He was better with Premo & Kenny Parker on the boards.
@musiqgem Wrong. KRS & buckshot dropped a CD together in 09, it was pure fire. You're just not a fan other wise you wouldn't have named the only commercial CD he's done as his best work. I'd bet you've never even heard "Spitacular" "Kristyles" or "Keep Right". 3 CD's that were crafted to build young minds with the truth, not break them down with B.S. tails of crack sales that never happened. What you call preachy I call "Hard Core". It's okay, people love lies..the truth can be scary.
@PlanetHarlem No No No, I didn't say I Got Next was his best work. The key word is "LAST", his last banger! I'm saying every lp & every single up to that point was dope, not including the Scott La Rock & the Celebrity Three material. Now if you're truly a fan than you know about that work!
did actually say chris brown be apart of it...now that's a straight slap in the face to the juice crew...it might be alright as long as he doesn't play 1 of the 11 members.
Wtf @ someone givin' me a thumbs down. lmao, anyway, just google it. it's everywhere, I wish it wasn't true, but it is. It's cuz lack of money, basically.
Thats like when people were saying that Michael Jackson is dead - they aint wanna believe it. LOL people hate the messenger. Show them the body (aka the link) and you might get a thumbs up.
I heard that Nas was playing Kool G Rap. I would think that a Nas movie would come out first tho. They don't really look alike but whatever. How did that guy leave out G Rap and the fact that Nas might play him in the beginning?Nick Cannon and Chris Brwon better stay their bitch asses out of this movie.
i got bad feeling from this . the biggie film was DISGRACE a cheap attempt to make mone from a dead emcee qas for juice we dont need a movie thiere lifes are seen in thiere music just go and listen to the real miusic and watch real interviews
Hold-Up...Wait-A-Minute, other then Palmer & Ross the rest of this cast is too damn old to play these people who were teens and under 25 for sure at the time. Nick Cannon no, Cuba Gooding Jr too old, Tony(No Skills)Yayo as KRS-1 hell no, The Juice Crew are some of the greatest ever to grace the mic & are all going the be legends long after their dead. NAS as Kool G Rap, David Banner as Biz too old to cast. What's next, Morgan Freeman as DJ Polo? Get a real budget, or leave it alone.
Evan Ross was/is cast as Shan. I'm reading now though that the film's a bust, according to KRS One. IMDb lists it with a release date of 2008, which isn't happening, so something's gone wrong. This sucks hard.
Can't wait to see this!! About time to give props where props is due!! Glad to see Shante getting some spotlight because she is definitely one of the true pioneers!
an IMDB forum post on this film talks about how things went haywire on several sides of the cast and crew in relation to roles and money - and the movie has basically collapsed. i hope somehow it still gets made, there's a rich history that couldn't possibly fit into a 90 minute movie but would at least give today's generation an idea of how important the juice crew all stars are to hip hop.
oops, let me make a typo correction and make clear that Michael Jai White (Dark Knight-Batman, Spawn, Mike Tyson) should get the role of Kool G. Rap. White played Mike Tyson well and got the lisp down pat, so he can capture G Rap's infamous lisp and he resembles him alot. If the makers/contributers of the film are reading this post, then I plead with you to cast White in the role of G Rap and not Nas. Have Nas serve as a producer and give him a cameo role as a younger Nas on the come up.
Shout to my neighbor Dr. (pause) let me emphasize, MD. DR. Roxanne Shante. Jackson Heights, Queens baybeee. Now, as far as the casting goes, not feeling Nick Cannon, I'll let Chris Brown pass cause they need to cast actors or celebs who can draw in a crowd. Nas as Kool G.? Naw, don't see a resemblence. My man, Michael Jai White (but he was in the latest Batman flick and played Spawn) should play Kool G. Nas should def rep his QB roots, get his paper up and serve as an Exec Producer.
i was sayin tha same thing, Nick Cannon? Chris Brown? Evan Ross? WTF? how tha hell did they names even get mentioned to STAR in this movie?? lol i think tha only person that i'd say "seems" ok is Keke Palmer (i don't kno bout her rappin tho) lol
the girl from akeelah and the bee is playin shante. i feel you on nick cannon being anywhere near this. who is playin g rap?!? dats what i wanna know.
Go to disconnexions dot com for interviews with Shante, Marley Marl and the crew behind the "Vapors" movie. We'll be bringing you updates from the set of the movie as well.
krs did not eat shan up. people forget that shan hit him up on kill that noise and on i pioneered this, on the born to be wild lp. he just did not shout out his name in that song. peeps slept on that album.
Chris destoyed Shan what were you listening to back then? Whats the matter with your MC Marley Marl don't you know that he's out of touch. Don't get me wrong I was and still am a Juice Crew Fan but Chris is my favorite of all time.

NO MC SHAN??????? how can that be??
xmcd7 3 years ago 2
Evan Ross was/is cast as Shan. I'm reading now though that the film's a bust, according to KRS One. IMDb lists it with a release date of 2008, which isn't happening, so something's gone wrong. This sucks hard.

I THOUGH THE SAME THING
TroyRamseyyy 3 years ago
an IMDB forum post on this film talks about how things went haywire on several sides of the cast and crew in relation to roles and money - and the movie has basically collapsed. i hope somehow it still gets made, there's a rich history that couldn't possibly fit into a 90 minute movie but would at least give today's generation an idea of how important the juice crew all stars are to hip hop.

oops, let me make a typo correction and make clear that Michael Jai White (Dark Knight-Batman, Spawn, Mike Tyson) should get the role of Kool G.
ElectAPromQueen 3 years ago
