  • You kinda sound like the singer of Band of Horses

    watch?v=IUTkWIx6xu0

Try covering some stuff by them.

  • @Zeek001 thanks, i'll check them out.

  • You sing like America.

  • @TPom8458 thanks for watching.

  • No . . Thank you !!! . . This is the best version of this song !!!

  • This is great !!!

  • @MrNobodylikesyou thank you!

  • @russbuss415 ukulele one's? I couldn't find them, sadly. But I think I've figured them out myself. S'all good.

  • @badgertedpadwan regardless of the instrument (guitar, uke, piano), the chords are all the same. G is a G, C is a C, etc.

  • this guy is super-talented. good job!

  • @emilyemilyparrparr thank you kindly!

  • Direct link to the chords? Please?

  • @badgertedpadwan you can find them easily on google.

  • this is so cool :)

  • @MrThecock11 thank you!

  • Awesome :D

  • @Jewbaka15 thanks!

  • I like this song, and your version. When I tried to do this, I dropped it down half a step, so that I could reach the higher notes. I don't have the tenor voice of Steve Winwood.

  • @gsf67 thanks for watching! yeah, it's a little high for me too but i tried my best.

  • oh! you did the best cover of all times on the best song of all times!!

    Great

  • @BusaccaNr1 thanks for the kind words!

  • @russbuss415 i really wanted to trash you when i clicked on this : / u were simply very good and i cant. you have a very good voice but i think maybe if you stood up instead of sat you could have belted it out with a little more soul. oh, and i love all the liquor behind you :)

  • @mdcolumbo thanks for the comment. yeah, it's a little easier to sing when standing up, but sometimes relaxing by the liquor cart is nice too :)

  • dude awesome

  • @dawes1360 thank you!

  • This is great! ... but please don't put Steve Winwood in the same company as scandal, or starship!

  • @rennieallen thanks for the comment!

  • AWESOME

  • @Gabrielmoon777 thanks for watching!

  • Loved it. Good work and great song choice.

  • @Transatlanticism1 thanks very much!

  • @LawrenceLugar1 thanks for watching!

  • I really like this. The ukele complements your voice. =]

  • * ukelele Sorry!

  • thanks for the kind words!

  • no soul but not bad

  • @bonzo727 thanks for watching.

  • nice acoustic version

  • thanks for the kind words! i'm glad you liked it. cheers!

  • a great cover...i love the tone and upbeat quality of the ukulele

  • thanks for the comment! the uke is a fun instrument.

  • I absolutely adore covering dumb assed 80s tunes. The best are the ones like this little gem that have scale and drama. Higher Love may well be one of the dumbest assed tunes that year. But it's got heart and that makes it mighty. Well played sir, well played. I just got a vision of this tune done with ukulele in Hawaiian.

  • yeah, the 80's churned out a lot of good and bad tunes. they sure are fun to cover though. thanks for watching!

  • Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • many thanks!

  • nothing cheesy about this song, just one of many great songs Steve Winwood has put out

  • thanks for watching!

  • Russ, you rock! smokin' hot vocals and great ukin'. Way to bring this one back - great song.

  • thanks! i really appreciate it.

  • russbuss, you got a good voice sir.

  • thank you kindly!

  • i missed this, and i've actually never heard this song, but i was born in the late 80s, so it works.

    i liiike. groovy

  • thanks for the groovy comment, Shani! :)

  • Keep on recording 80s pieces. They are way fun.

  • thanks! i think i have a few 90's pieces coming up for Shane's contest. then some more 80's stinkers :)

  • Yeah, my list of 90's songs to cover for the contest is long and most of them are a stretch for me, so I need more time to practice in the end, I think I will devote my time toward a really strong entry for the coffee contest

    I need that uke.

    And I adore coffee.

  • cool. i'll have to think of something for the coffee contest as well. cheers!

  • Great job

  • thanks you!

  • That version was better than the orginal! No hate here!

  • very kind of you. thanks!

  • Nice Job Russ. Those glasses match your crocs.

    Great energy on that uke!

  • Russ,

dude....you could do these covers anytime and i'd listen and smile and enjoy, even if the originals incited me to break things....

  • haha, thanks Todd!

  • Another one that you have soo improved for me ! Excellent :)

  • thanks Caroline :)

  • that was great strummin' and singin' russ!

i hate this @#%67! song, but you rocked it man!

  • thanks Jeff! it's really fun to play these questionable covers. kind of a uke or dare thing :)

  • I don't think I can explain the "Higher Love" kick I was on last month. I had to have it at least twice a day.

I was thinking of doing a uke cover but haven't gotten around to it yet.

    Anyways, great job.

  • thanks Gio! i get into some crazy kicks at times. i'd like to see your take on this song. complete with pyrotechnics and animatronic dancing mannequins :)

  • Now this is one 80s song I can say that I definitely did not appreciate.

    You totally pwned Steve Winwood.

  • thank you! i knew there were people out there that didn't like this song. i'm not going crazy :)

    (well not any craziER, anyway)

  • GO 80s! good 1 russ

  • thanks Ed! you coming to Aldrine's show on August 8?

  • ill be there. where is it at and wat time does it start?

  • Dasilva's, August 8th, 7:00pm. full details on UU, under the Gigs & Shows forum.

  • I'm gonna call you at 3am & sing this to you.

    Diggin the new spectacles!

  • i'll sleep next to the phone then. thanks Adelle!

  • Haha Love this one, Russ! I must admit that this song is a guilty pleasure for me..and leave it up to you to make it even better :)

  • thanks Jen! these songs are exactly that, guilty pleasures :)

  • You make the 80's seem cool!

  • thanks Mike! the 80's were cool like a bolo tie.

  • Love the way you're able to take multi-instrument songs and give them every bit as much shine in solo mode. Well done.

    Now....a toast!

  • thanks Bruce! the original was such a "big" song, it was a little challenging. i omitted some of the bridge and instrumental parts. "dumbed it down" if you will :)

see your bottle of fernet there? cheers!

  • Awesome Russ!

  • thanks Zwoko!

  • I loved this song when it first came out. I guess you could say I gave it a higher love.

    But don't.

btw, i higher love you. YH

  • thanks Alan! i appreciate the love, high or low, mostly high though. b&c

  • That was fantastic Russ! It was a song I didn't like or hate in the 80s, but I definitely love your version of it! Really great. It sounds like it was written for you. Got to love the 80s!

  • thanks Michelle! there were a lot of songs in the 80's that i was indifferent too. but this one i really loved. cheers :)

  • likin the lights on the liquor cabinet ;) i love this song so there's no issue from me. you nailed it. beautiful vocals!

  • thanks Shane! lights to help guide the way.

  • Excellent vocal, Russ.

  • thank you Ken!

  • It's great! Sounds genuine and fervent when performed like this! Mr Winwood should listen to this!

  • thanks much Leo!

  • Fantastic Russ. You've got a great voice. And fab playing as always.

And what a well-stocked liquor cabinet you have :)

  • thanks for the kind words Anna! the liquor cabinet comes in handy on those cold san francisco days. (which is basically everyday)

  • great job russ'! nice'n'fresh!

    : )

  • thank you! the 80's were pretty neat :)

  • I take it you've got new video editing software....

I like this song and your version of it.

The Death Star Stormtrooper who's stood in front of you seems to be quite excited about it too.

  • You're too much, tone! X D

  • thanks Tony! it's the latest version of iMovie on my Mac. for other fancier stuff, i've been using Sony Vegas on PC.

  • Im sorry, were you playing a song? I was distracted by all the liquor behind you.....:)

  • you can "have at it" when you get here. and i'm talking the liquor cart, not me. well not yet anyway.

  • Russ, this is the best one yet! It is like it was made for the uke and your beautiful voice. 80s rock!

  • thanks for the continued support!

  • Steve Winwood is a favourite of mine. I loved the songs he did with the Spencer Davis Group in the 60's

Keep on running (fuzz guitar on that is fantastic)

Georgia (up there with Ray charles)

I'm a man (Organ sounds like Booker T)

and his brother Muff Winwood "discovered" Jimi Hendrix and brought him over to the UK and gave him his first big break with Hey Joe

    Can't dis the Winwoods

  • most indeedy. great stuff from Steve Winwood in the 60's for sure. these 80's song are what i grew up with so they're closer to me.

  • I had no clue that people "might hate" Steve Winwood. I've only seen the stuff he's done with Clapton, but I couldn't imagine hating that talented man! Guess I'dve had to have been older during th eighties. Great cover.

  • thanks much John! yeah, some people that were fans of his music in the 60s-70s were not too thrilled about his 80s stuff.

  • I don't hate it at all - your voice is excellent here! Good stuff Rusty.

  • thanks Baron!

  • dude, you should totally do "gimme some lovin'" by spencer davis group, that would be badass...

  • that's a big song! i might give it a shot. if not, i know the right people to hunt down for a proper arrangement. thanks for watching.

  • 5 stars! love it!

  • thanks for the stars!

  • 'Higher Love' must have been 'cool', Steve Winwood did it. You 'd have to be 'hell hip' to question HIS work.

Cool rendition of cool song ! 5*****

  • ha, cheers Greg!

  • Guess you can't displease all the people all the time.

  • and yet i keep trying :)

  • We all claim to hate these songs. But, when we're alone in the car and they come on the radio...instant highway karaoke.

I have to admit...I like your covers way better than the originals.

  • these are totally highway karaoke songs, haha! thanks for the kind words.

  • Great job Russ

  • thanks Tom!

  • Awesome Russ! When I devastate that liquor cabinet, I'll be feeling a higher love fo sho.

  • lolz, good thing that's our decoy cart. the real one's in the panic room.

    thanks deach!

  • I've loved all three, but this is the best of all. Fantastic, Russ!

  • wow, glad you liked them all. boozelele said he would unsub me if i did this third song. screw him! thanks for watching Don :)

  • Maybe all he needs is a little (higher) love.

  • nice job there Russ !!!!!!!!!

  • thanks Stephen!
