@Kayonmangement 1. John doesn't want his name to be soiled for future generations, and thus refuses to sign the confession. 2. This is up to you, though I'd say somewhere between the evils of human nature and what fear can drive people to do. 3. Elizabeth blames herself for John's affair with Abigail; John blames himself for committing adultery. 4. Elizabeth doesn't want to take John's "goodness" away and feels he must decide for himself what is right. 5. Yes, he ultimately did.
ive read the book. bassically although all the people and events were real, it was fictionalized by the books author Arthur miller who wrote as an alligory to the mccarthy anti communist hysteria of the 1950's. unfortuantly arthur miller was also attacked by mccarthy
@6angelo9 it is not the religion that is evil and wicked, it is how people percieve it and carry it out that is the evil part. it is the people who twist it into unbelievable extremes just like in the salem witch trials. do you understand what i'm trying to say?
@BdMdrFckr Yea I can draw several analogies that all seem to fit but I'm creative like that - The point of the play was irrelevant to my rant, its why I didnt direct it at anyone in particular, it was an off the cuff kind of statement I guess. I was serving in the army in europe during the cold war, and no this movie really didnt remind me of it.
I do see the connections and 'get it' though if thats what you mean:-) I do see what the director is getting at, heh!!
damn i have 2 do a fukin homework about diz nd its worht 400 points... i didnt read da story cuz its frikin lame, borin nd lonnnnnnngggg.... can some1 tell me where 2 find da movie???
where can i find this movie? im tired of seeing these stupid trailers and kids trying to react this in their back yard, i want to see the real movie damn it!
@shdgahsgf the whole thing started when the girls went boy-crazy and went into the woods. That one act of adultery didn't set off 10 other girls, it was what they did in the woods that set the whole thing off.
Nice trailer - I think the timing was really well done.
Of course everyone sees Abigail as en evil bitch, but I think she's got some very serious issues that are just exposed and heightened by the irrational hysteria of her community. Because her parents were killed right in front of her, she's probably been traumatized and yearning for attention or parental love. So she takes it out in an unhealthy relationship with John Proctor and basks in the negative attention of the trials.
I have just got the part as Mary, everyone tells me that she is worse than Abigale because she's a coward. I do not see her as a coward. She is just terrified and from all around she's being threatened. She want's to do the right thing but the judge and Abigale basically forces her to take it all back. How do you see her? Is she a coward to you?
@sumle85 Yeah, honestly, I do think she is a bit of a coward. It's not to say that her fear isn't understandable given the hysteria that arises in the community, but she doesn't have the guts to form her conviction and stick to it. Abigail is an angry girl and a conniver, but at least she's got a story and she's sticking to it. She's more weak than cowardly if you ask me. It's like Goody Putnam. She's got a lot of deeper issues that play out as irrational behavior.
@Apink420 yeah no shit. We're watching that movie in our english class and everyone's always saying "oh my god. What a bitch!!" and our teacher allows it cuz she agrees lol XD
im mary warren in my english class, well we are on act three. so far, all mary does is yell.
hmmmm.. tips. well stutter beucase one you are supposed to but say it in a weak inferior voice and make it sound natural. facial expressions help and uhhh when yelling, but your heart to it and since you are in drama, act well. if it says to do something, do it will passion.
Be afraid and pathetic. Haha. No really my friend played her and I really wanted it. But that is how she is described. I love her. I'm sure you'll make her proud.

Have you read the Crucible?
If you have
In what ways does the subject of identity raised in the final scene?
What do you think is the single most important subject of the play?
How are Elizabeth and John both tortured by guilt?
Why does Elizabeth refuse to influence Johns decision?
Do you think John reached the final decision at the end of the play?
Use quotations or specific reasons and references from the text (If you can please).
I really need help with these questions

The Crucible:
Slut: "You're a witch!"
Guy: "Nope, but you're a whore."
Priest/judge: "Is he really a witch?"
Slut: "YES, and he's the devil too! Evil spirits attack me all the time! I'm a crazy whore!"
Guy: "This whore is just mad because I won't leave my wife for her."
Priest/judge: "Well, I'm a crazy religious fanatic, so we're gonna hang this guy."
And then they separated church and state.
The end.
