Calling this situation near death is an extreme exaggeration. Even if the landing gear collapses passengers still have an extremely high rate of survival. IIRC theres never been an instance where landing gear has collapsed and passengers have died. When all those SAS Dash 8-400s had landing gear issues no one died and no one had any life threatening injuries. I understand that the passengers on board were extremely nervous, but everything was fine and this was a minor incident.
I Agree on that, taking an analisis of the scenario, the pilot has to work on a manouver wich point is not to compromise the Nose gear, that's what they did the pilots
The crew of this flight did a great job in keeping the aircraft on the runway. Anything could have gone wrong during nose gear touchdown. They say if an airliner catches fire, passengers and crew have less than 90 seconds to get out alive.
This horrible. It went without any injuries, they also sped up the video to make the plane go faster. This is proof that these shows just over exaggerate extremely.
Sure video and news exaggerate but this could of been much worse. The injuries on Q400 flights in the netherlands are all landing gear related and in those cases it didn't stand up to those stresses and it buckled. Look at that frame at 6:58 "if" that gear wasn't built properly the situation would of been much different. People are saying good points about TV shows etc but on aviation this could of been much worse.
The worst thing that really could have possibly happened in this scenario would be a nose gear collapse which even then would have been nowhere near life-threatening. A Northwest A320 had an almost identical incident incident last year and I didn't hear a peep about that one.
People, this guy was not anywhere near death. It's amazing how some people (mostly the media) take small situations and make them seem like life and death.
Lol. People made such a big deal about the Jet Blue "crash." The pilot can keep the nose wheel off the runway as long as possible. The pilot can use differential braking and rudder to keep it straight and most importantly, thrust reverse.
Ummm... This is actually a recurrent problem on the a320 family. It wasn't a very big deal, seeing that the sparks didn't set anything on fire. It may have looked spectacular, but simply having the nose wheel twisted doesn't change much besides the stopping distance.
It didn't catch fire because the pilot flew around the Southern California region to burn off fuel before land, which was very smart, god bless the pilots of Flight 292.

Why be scared? This proves that Jetblue has Pro pilots and you can definately trust your lives on them. Not saying that other airlines co. suck.

Thanks. Yeah, I figured out that I'm not scared. Well, I did post that comment you replied to about a year ago, lol.

If a pilot makes a mistake during a landing with a screwed up gear it can be all over, you moron.

In the majority of emergency situations, pilots do not use the reverse thrusters.
