My literary moment was in lord of the rings, when Gimly describes a cave to Legolas, I felt I was there, that quote "then a drop falls and everything changes," beautifull.
I know exactly what you are all talking about and I am so glad that this subject was brought up.
A GREAT book is like GREAT music. It's supposed to make you feel or think.
If you don't feel anything in your head or your heart, then the Author has failed.
The emotional moment for me came near the end of "The Shining" when Jack Torrence had his son Danny trapped. Just before the evil of the Overlook took hold of him forever, he said, "Run, Danny! Run! And remember how much I love you."
