  • way beyond my capability at the moment, but definitely something to really cool to work towards, great job man, thanks mate :-)

  • good video, and well taught...if only you had put MAMBO, and said tricky instead of trickly it would be taken more seriously. all in all though, nice pattern, kudos

  • After developing my limb independence for a while, I humbly came back to learn this... AND I FINALLY GOT IT! Thank you so much for this! Now I'm more equipped for the new chalenges than ever!

  • Mombo??? hahahahaahahaha

  • Why is it that half the people commenting on ANY video--be it mambo, metal, or even pop--are assholes? If you don't like it, you know you can always, oh I don't know, LEAVE!

  • You switched your ride (bell) pattern when you incorporated the "conga" pattern. Originally, you were hitting the up beat of 4 ("and" of 4) with the ride. When you brought in the snare and toms, you started skipping that beat. Still... props for the awesome tutorial.

  • LOL MOMBO

  • nicely done dude like it soomuch tnx for posting

  • Hard shit

  • i got lost after the second partern :(

  • Pronouncing 'tricky' can be trickly.

  • This video has been so helpful to me; thank you for posting it! I still have a little trouble integrating my right foot, but it's getting there. I'm really interested in learning more rhythms like this - does anyone know of any good online resources for Latin rhythms like this?

  • The worst of all is that he's not hitting the drums simultaneously. It is absolute necessary to sync your limbs in time in order to make ANY beat sound at least decent.

  • MAMBO!

  • tell you whats really "trickly" -absorbing anything you just said.

  • its mAmbo

  • One of the best "counted" tutorials I've seen. For some reason nobody seems to count their beats quite right. This was AWESOME! Thanks.

  • I remember I learnt the beat from this video at least 2 years ago. I didn't really know anything about latin music then. Now I can't get enough. I think you're teaching it wonderfully. This video helped much so much. Check out some of my videos if you want to hear some latin. Thanks georgeshepherd :)

  • guys its an electric drumset and simply does the job,it may not be the real thing but it in no way gets in the way of teaching the beat chill out

  • mombo

  • you're not playing cascara on your right hand once you play it all together.

  • You explained the cascara beat correctly, but you're not playin' it equally right along with other parts.

  • It's a great video but I only had one small problem with it.. I've seen players learn beats in this way.. but when they do learn it like this, they can't change it. They play the same beat over and over again. It would be good to see another video with some building up to this and ways you can change what you're playing. (ex: Adding a note into the ride pattern sometimes or changing up the bass where it plays, or even just the left hand and its role within the playing and how it can be modified)

  • good lesson man, a shame you absolutely Slayed latin with that awful electric kit

    GET SOME ACOUSTIC LESSONS DAMNIT!!!

    (Y)(Y)(Y)(Y)(Y)

  • Why do you teach one bell pattern at the beginning and then use a different one in the beat later?

  • good work...shame the noob commenters are too limited to appreciate this rhythm 10/10!

  • MAMBO!

  • its kinda when funny when he grabs the electric cymbal to stop its ringing

  • huhh...it actually stops ringing when you grab the electric cymbal...I have one...

  • @skatergirldrummerDAF you dont know shit

  • ???????

the cymbal have a sensor !!!!!!!!!!

so thats why when he grabs it,

it stops ringing.....YOU DONT KNOW SHIT!

  • @skatergirldrummerDAF i was just playin with you im sorry

  • Kinda lost me at 0:00 when he spelt Mambo wrong...

  • @drummerkingmike when he 'spelled' mambo incorrectly?

  • @thebadbrown ...... oh man I got burned!

  • @thebadbrown I know it was a long time ago, but I just found out that spelled or spelt are both acceptable. So balls to you! To quote Liza Minnelli... ;-)

  • What can he say, it can get

    pretty trickly

  • just like sleeping on the first

  • k chido

  • 0:10 "trying to simulate a percussion set" if you percussion sound, get some REAL percussion!

  • lol very trickly 0.13

  • Thats cool as fuck, good vid!

  • @lossofthoughts6 hahaha

  • chicos chicos!! no alcanza solamente con saber el ritmo, tiene que tener felling tambien!!, pero bueno, para el que no conoce el ritmo, es un ejemplo, despues queda en que cada uno que lo mejore...

  • haha he playing electric drums!

  • what kind of drumset is that? it sounds awesome

  • hi george, you miss 2 notes of the cascara when you play it with the timable pattern- the 2nd notes of the toms that imitate the tumbadora /timbale pattern land on a unison with the cascara

  • zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  • Wait, Mombo? As in Sylvester Stallone's mother? Do you mean "Mambo"?

  • very trickly......

  • gracias!!! thanks!!! regards from Coolmbia

  • Damn, I hate those electric drum sets, when he hits that plastic shit except Ride cymbal, you can hear sound of cymbal and the sound of that plastic shit!!!

  • You only hear the plastic clicking because his voice mic is still on when he plays. If he mixed it out you wouldn't hear anything.

  • I doubt he can though.

  • hornet sticks were around 2006?!? i thought they came out in 2008!?

  • That sounded sick at the end.

  • The pattern would be better with two and four on the h.h. instead of the clave because when playing with a band, the horn players need something to grab onto.

  • why did u play it faster and faster?? it's more of a xersie then music??

  • kl man. waht grade is this

  • Amazing, really amazing. You would get more views if you spelled mambo right.

  • good explanation. harder to explain than to play. you know whats a cool variation of the 3:2 pattern? afro-cuban rythms in 12/8. those are my favorites. and i personally hate electric drums...they just sound too fake to me. i need a real kit. you'd sound dynamite on a real kit dude.

  • first of all i love that groove, but i have a question... the ride pattern changes a little bit when you add in the left hand pattern, i think you take out a note on the second tom hit on each one, is it sposed to be like thator should i keep the ride patern the same?? sorry if i sound mean cuz im really not trying to be

  • yea it did but it worked out imo

  • that shits rediculous

  • hey me nnnn you dont need all those names and explanations and couting just play it nice wite your feelings.feel the music.duo

  • There are so many variations on this. I like yours though. =]

It's hard, but it's all about coordination, start slow and work it up... I did lol

  • that grooved just as mutsh as a case of apples!

    nice cordinasion.

  • the correct name t's MAMBO not mombo,

    and you are good.

  • dude this is sooooo hard to play

  • WOW THIS IS GOOD MAMM WHAT

  • that right hand is trippen me up

  • hahah thanks your awesome drummer

  • great lesson! thank you!

  • I saw some drums for sale in a music shop last week. but they look different from these. is this guy for real?

  • wow, i need to get on my latin. thats got to be about the hardest pattern i've ever seen. 5/5

  • 10X

  • Finally, somebody shows us how to do it! Should have put the clave sound on that hat foot.

  • Greatt our drumer plays that rythme mambo !! and it's soo like what u did at 5:34 !! ^^ by the way great lesson !! thx to u

  • there's a huge difference between mombo and mambo

  • wow. haha that's great.

  • he is using those hornet sticks. i saw them at the wahsington music center

  • thanks for the video lesson, but i noticed when you play with you left hand, the cascara pattern changes.

  • Awesome

  • cool...this helped me a lot...thanx!!!

  • dude!!!! what is way to fucking square. its missing he whole latin feel. if u look @ conga players there alway making variations and giving random strickes. u can't always stay doing the same pattern over and over. study horacio his always giving it the touch. like if were a real percussion quintet. some advice listen to "Los muñequitos de matanza" Old skool rumba and study that that will so u what u have to do.

  • Dude I didn't get one word you said. Was that English ?

  • calm down bud its a lesson not a solo

  • oh imsorry im not drummer :(, but is good knowit :) ty

  • this confuses me, but he's good with theory

  • yea good explanations

  • nice sticks =)

  • Complicated! But you explained it very well.

  • Why are you spelling it "mombo"?

  • I don't understand why you leave out part of the bell pattern when you put everything together...

  • hehehe "trickly". :P

  • excellent rithym man U are good!!

  • You can choke Roland electronic cymbals!

  • It's true, you can, and it's so useful.

Great electronic kit (Roland rules, hahaha)

  • TD-12 is the shizzle!

  • after bell sound? nice hehe

  • oi u can choke roland electric cymbals ass whipe

  • lol ure right!

  • holy shit i feel stupid, im guitarrist, sorry

  • Yeah, I agree with akuro ... trouble with negative people on here is that by going to their profile you find out they're actually into something else entirely. Must have no life if all he can do is be negative all day ... let's see ol' Jd do it better. Oh, right, he can't even play drums anyway. Funny that ...

  • You did fucking great

Ignore some of the fucking retarded people that posted comments

  • WOW

    FUCK, YOUR STUPID...

  • mombo???? hahaha did you mean.. mambo?

  • Nice groove, was one of my first introductions to latin music. Your left hand is mimicing the conga patterns. I've read in a book that it's a passe pattern though. This is just the start and thanks much for making it so accessible. It's not so hard and it's funky as hell...so learn it folks, it'll free ya up

  • latin beats r my worst style i just dont have tht 4 way independence needed

  • I hate playing latin beats slow,There so much easier when speed up ha...Well for me..

  • I love your dipstick drumsticks (The grip)

  • Trickily indeed.

  • "this can get very trickly" lmao. i learnt this in a day :) so fun to play love latin music

  • wow that's some serious independence bro. Sound's great

  • holy shit.... how u put all those together...

    little less than Akira Jimbo..

    AMAZING..

  • Well, its a great lesson. And theres one thing pretty funny on that video which is when he grabs the pad cymbal to stop the sound as it was a real cymbal. (i hope u understood, my english isnt good! :))

  • You are able to stop the sound on electric cymbals..

  • you can silence electric cymbals mainly roland ones im nt sur about yamaha

  • He reminds me of Quentin Tarrantione. The chin and voice. =)

  • le falta mas sabor pero se la juega

  • But how do you do 4/4 in this?

Help appreciated, thanx....(I'm uploading a couple of excellent lessons myself....check it!!!

  • If you count it out you'll see it is in 4/4, or you could just listen to him repeatedly count it out for you.

  • thnak u for lesson, awesome

  • mAmbo, noth mOmbo

  • Alright, I play similar to that without any lessons, but now that it's broken down I feel ashamed of not knowing the names of the beats and why they are put together like they should be. Thanks for the lesson!

  • Thank you for the lesson.. Must practice for drummers.. complete limb independence is very important

  • The cascara pattern has a little bit more than what he is showing. You play with the right and left hand on timbales when playing cascara(Of course). ON drumset it has more stuff included. I think the cascara seems to be missing some more hits, but overall, the vid is good.

Alejandro, you are correct, is is mambo, not mombo.

    God bless

  • it's mAmbo

    NOT mombo

  • LMFAO LOL OMFG ROFLMAO when he was playing the rhythm at 5:15 he was playing the casca'ra wrong.......... LMFAO LOL OMG WTF I LEARNED THIS RHTHM IN 2 min from my dad while watching a hockey game lmao wtf

  • Man, my independence definitely isn't up to par.

  • im a great fan of you dude.....tanxx for the lessons...keep it up

  • Great playing.... and you look like Quentin Tarantino!

  • Hey dude! you change the groove at 3:45! do the same pattern with the left hand!

  • Whats up with these people advertizing these websites? Go get a life perverts...

  • Hell yeah, and whats with these people using electric drum sets?? A real drum set is way better and sounds better too! Get a real drum set.

  • technical as sh*t but no feel.

  • Coming from an amateur. This has great feel when you play it right and up-tempo

  • nice! How long have you been playing?I could only try to attempt that stuff.

  • ya, tahts what 9 of 10 drummers say when confronted woith latin, but work at it n ull get it in a while, like me, i got it a bit quicker than most ppl, but within 2 months of starting latin drumming i was learning the casca'ra with a somba foot pattern, a wawanko n afro cuban poly rhythms

  • really great, thanks!

  • you are very good at drums!!

  • woow man thats a great lesson now i can do a new rithme realy thanks man

  • nice. bet he took some time to perfecktly master that.

  • f**kkkkkkkk this guys insane! :o

  • im doing grade 3 latin patterns at the moment

  • YEAH! Latin grooves soo hard

  • dude, george your a great groove drummer! whats up with the electronic shit? that didnt fly in the 80s and it doesnt fly now!!!

  • Electric kits are great for practice in a place where you cant have much noise, and also, his kit would take up like, 3x more space if it were acoustic.

  • Yea, I love acoustic kits, but the v drums are pretty good for lessons and learning, outside of feel and touch studies.

  • I have learned so much from these videos, see how much it has affected me ( a 12 year old) at Jacks Insane Drum Solo and for more entertainment check out JackInTheBox1313

  • AWESOME!!!

  • i like how he chokes the cymbal hahah

  • boddidddly pshhhhhhhh

  • hey thats a bo diddley figure right??

  • those headphones belong in 1977.

  • hey, great video but do you have this beat written out?

  • Thanks for the leason. Very clearly explained and presented. Thank you very much!

  • I definitely agree, I haven't seen better clearer drum lesson than this, awesome job.

  • very good explanations!

  • I dont suppose you (or anyone) knows of any video examples of good fills that go with these clave / mambo / samba etc style kit rhythms?

  • oooh my, finally some latin kit drumming! brilliant! tis my favourite thing to play on the kit.

  • When you put it all together, the right hand pattern is not what you you showed at the start. You place a single note instead of a > and 1 < at the start of the 2nd part of the 2 bar pattern.

  • nah ppl dont forget the druming , but for us is fucking funny , believe me , u know u can do 1000 things good way and 1 wrong way , ppl only see that one wrong

  • MOMBO XD , you are my idol i ll add it to the funny anglosaxon words in spanish , paiela (paella) , chorerou ( torero )etc , you drum fucking great man congratulations from spain ( europe , not mexico :D )

  • Thanks for the post! I think it is funny that people get so excited about the phoenetic translation and sometimes they forget the content is the important part. Plus... it makes more people check out the video to see what all the fuss is about!

  • its MAMBO

  • lol great lesson.

    (=

  • notorius?

  • It's very notorius that you aren't latin. You play it ok, but it doesn't sounds. It need some feelin'

  • fantastic vid

  • WHAT A BIG HEADPHONE MWUAAUAUA

  • bye the way, great vid!

  • cuban music is so unique. my dad wont let me live down that we are cuban and thats our music. its a shame what happened to the once beautiful country.
