good video, and well taught...if only you had put MAMBO, and said tricky instead of trickly it would be taken more seriously. all in all though, nice pattern, kudos
After developing my limb independence for a while, I humbly came back to learn this... AND I FINALLY GOT IT! Thank you so much for this! Now I'm more equipped for the new chalenges than ever!
Why is it that half the people commenting on ANY video--be it mambo, metal, or even pop--are assholes? If you don't like it, you know you can always, oh I don't know, LEAVE!
You switched your ride (bell) pattern when you incorporated the "conga" pattern. Originally, you were hitting the up beat of 4 ("and" of 4) with the ride. When you brought in the snare and toms, you started skipping that beat. Still... props for the awesome tutorial.
This video has been so helpful to me; thank you for posting it! I still have a little trouble integrating my right foot, but it's getting there. I'm really interested in learning more rhythms like this - does anyone know of any good online resources for Latin rhythms like this?
The worst of all is that he's not hitting the drums simultaneously. It is absolute necessary to sync your limbs in time in order to make ANY beat sound at least decent.
I remember I learnt the beat from this video at least 2 years ago. I didn't really know anything about latin music then. Now I can't get enough. I think you're teaching it wonderfully. This video helped much so much. Check out some of my videos if you want to hear some latin. Thanks georgeshepherd :)
It's a great video but I only had one small problem with it.. I've seen players learn beats in this way.. but when they do learn it like this, they can't change it. They play the same beat over and over again. It would be good to see another video with some building up to this and ways you can change what you're playing. (ex: Adding a note into the ride pattern sometimes or changing up the bass where it plays, or even just the left hand and its role within the playing and how it can be modified)
@thebadbrown I know it was a long time ago, but I just found out that spelled or spelt are both acceptable. So balls to you! To quote Liza Minnelli... ;-)

Damn, I hate those electric drum sets, when he hits that plastic shit except Ride cymbal, you can hear sound of cymbal and the sound of that plastic shit!!!
The pattern would be better with two and four on the h.h. instead of the clave because when playing with a band, the horn players need something to grab onto.
good explanation. harder to explain than to play. you know whats a cool variation of the 3:2 pattern? afro-cuban rythms in 12/8. those are my favorites. and i personally hate electric drums...they just sound too fake to me. i need a real kit. you'd sound dynamite on a real kit dude.
first of all i love that groove, but i have a question... the ride pattern changes a little bit when you add in the left hand pattern, i think you take out a note on the second tom hit on each one, is it sposed to be like thator should i keep the ride patern the same?? sorry if i sound mean cuz im really not trying to be
dude!!!! what is way to fucking square. its missing he whole latin feel. if u look @ conga players there alway making variations and giving random strickes. u can't always stay doing the same pattern over and over. study horacio his always giving it the touch. like if were a real percussion quintet. some advice listen to "Los muñequitos de matanza" Old skool rumba and study that that will so u what u have to do.
Yeah, I agree with akuro ... trouble with negative people on here is that by going to their profile you find out they're actually into something else entirely.
