I knew in the middle of nursing school that there were no jobs for new grads, so I got myself a job as a nursing assistant in the hospital I wanted to work in. Yeah it sucked after passing the boards and having that card from the Board of Registered Nurses but I knew that I would be first up when the new grads finally materialized again. And I was right though I was out of school for 1 1/2 years, I got my dream job. Just get your foot in the door and under their noses.

Hospitals (who benefitted from free labor of nursing students) turned their backs on nursing students. I question, why are these hospitals (in my area) still participating in nursing programs when they know they will not hire the new grads? Why are RN programs still having new classes when market is already flooded with the unemployed new grads they graduated?
@TheCameoAfro1 yeah, its sad the only thing they say you have job security in is healthcare, yet nursing and pharmacy are at the saturating point. They are also cutting doctor's pay...
@TheCameoAfro1: That is exactly what happened to me. RN instructors said "you will be recruited" up to the final quarter (BSN). Then, after the check cleared, they pretty much said.........you are screwed and told us to enroll in their extra preceptorship (more free labor) with no promise of a job. I asked an instructor if the extra preceptorship was resulting in jobs. She said "not really, but it will keep your skills up". What a waste.
