This is the scene where you really see just how much of a monster Hearst really is. He laments not being able to "relieve his displeasure" by raping Alma and killing Seth, because he knows his long term interests would suffer.
The reason Hurst is covering his face most of this scene is because in the scenes prior to this, he did not have a full beard...they must have told him to keep his hand near his mouth. I noticed it immediately when I watched it the first time..when he met with Alma and wanted to kill Bolluck, he had scruff...next thing you know, full beard.
The fact the creators canned this show after season 3 on such a cliff hanger is a crime. One of the most well acted, casted, written, directed, and produced shows I have ever seen. Every single scene in this show is gold.
@Maryjaneslave - Exactly my sentiment - I shall eternally resent HBO for instead opting in favor of John from Cincinnatti; a fourth season of Deadwood would have been so much better, but alas we shall never have it!

It was interesting to see Al and Cy react to someone so obviously more evil than the 2 of them put together.

Al would have swiped at Hurst's throat with some cold steel..pulled his tongue through the slit and called it a Deadwood bow-tie.
