@RatHelper2000 Just google "Eva's Rat Agility Page" - that's all the advice I had on building fences and training rats. The rest you must learn from your rats!
(Best start with one rat - if the whole pack is on the loose, everyone will get confused, most of all the trainer. ;-) Later on the others can join.)
all my rat dose id sit on my sholder and eat how in the hell did u trane ur rat i tryed bribing with food but she looks at me like ur fucking retarded if u think ima do that
I love my rats. But that can't learn how to do anything. They know some stuff on their own though. my rat Lizzy can jump all the to the top of my couch and also jump out of a bathtub! My other rat, mandy, will only sit on your lap and shoulder. But i still luv them!
Thats fantastic! Good on youf or having such a close relationship with your pet! I think my boy rats are too fat and lazy. They would probably just go curl up and sleep in the bosxes instead!
@VJakeV Well, she's eating, that's what calms her. Though when she grew old, she could sit on the couch with me for hours "watching" DVDs - she could neither see nor hear them, of course, but she always pointed her nose in the right direction. ;-)
I think I got my two girls when they were too old to get them as tame and trained as this. They're clearly smart though. When they're loose they always figure out ways to get places and always remember escape routes
So schlau sind sie eigentlich alle - ist nur eine Frage des Trainings. Was Emma da vorführt, kann man jeder durchschnittlich intelligenten Ratte beibringen. (Und Emma war zum Zeitpunkt der Aufnahme schon taub und blind!)
You can believe me, she really was blind. She didn't even react to bright light, and in unfamiliar surroundings ran straight into anything she couldn't smell.
Besides, I noticed the change - she was poor-sighted from her youth because of her red eyes, but in old age she lost her eyesight completely.
holy fruckn shit!! how do u do that?!! jeeze, my rat dont even let me near it, gee i wonder why, i saved from bein food to a snake, but i feed her by hand. we're makin progress! (in a way)
When a rat gets really hooked, you don't need snacks any more. I had one rat who used to take the treat, just put it aside and run to the starting point again.
Emma, of course, needed something she could smell in order to know where she was going. (I change the order of the obstacles every time, so she couldn't just know from experience.)
I used to work with Emma almost every day. I don't really remember when the video was made, but to teach a rat the obstacle course shown in the video would usually take no more than a couple of weeks (though I take care not to introduce the more difficult obstacles too early - the rats tend to lose confidence then).
Actually Emma was a husky rat of some very light colour, difficult to describe - anyway, she was not completely white, but her eyes were an even lighter pink than those of an albino, really translucent.
The only difficulty I have with rats of poor eyesight is that they can't estimate differences so well, so they are more hesitant with jumping obstacles. But if you train them patiently enough, they get more confident.
Cute!! Nice Equipment!! Great training!! I also have a rat agility video here at YouTube, please come take a look, her name is Nineveh and her name is in the title. There's a little fashion show at the end of my video, ever seen a rat dressed before?
majority of pews (pink eyed whites) and other ruby eyed animals are blind or partially sighted, if u watch, they sway to get their bearings. Its adorable. I love strawberry flavored eyes!! Gawjus!!
i have a baby rat...how did u find out if it was blind...mine has red eyes too. shes only about 3weeks old i think...but its almost like she has a white pupil right now...i dunno...its weird..
A vet could check the pupils' reflexes. You can also tell from the rat's behaviour. When running around, Emma completely ignores any objects she can't smell, unless she touches them by chance. Also, if I hold her in front of a table, she doesn't reach out for it until her whiskers touch the edge. Recently, she doesn't even react when I turn on the light, though all the other rats look up.
She wasn't completely blind until she was well over 2 years, though.
yea, i could do that...i was thinking about going to the petstore, but theyre kinda stupid...dont know much...but yea the vets looking pretty good right now.
That's amazing! And she's blind? Incredible!!!

How can you tell if your rat is blind? I think one of mine are but I can't truly tell. Do you have any tests that could be helpful for this?
jumpdog9 2 years ago
@jumpdog9 Most rats are pretty blind, they see mostly motion, that's why you will see them bob their heads when looking at something.
