I've always seen a similarity with the traditional dress and even the pyramids of Mayan and Egyptian cultures. Who knows? That's a bit interesting. Another parallel is Judges 19:22-29, which is itself an echo of part of the Sodom & Gamorrah story, with a party of rapists threatening to violate a guest. At the end of that story, the man cuts the guest's raped concubine into 12 pieces & sends one piece to each of the 12 tribes of Israel. There's a finite number of possible story ideas. Only the good ones get read. Only the ones with a strong emotional reaction get remembered. And only the ones that have a devoted and cult-like fan base become myths. As the human species is wired to find certain things attractive in a story, it's not surprising that themes get repeated in different myths. Doesn't mean they were based off the same story, especially when the different cultures are separated by a 2000 year gap.

When Atlantis finally did sink the outer priesthood quickly left in ships. They went to what is now the Yucatan in Mexico, and they are known today as the Maya. This limestone lintel is one of a series of three panels from Structure 23 at Yaxchilán and was originally set above the central doorway.
The building is dedicated to Shield Jaguar II's wife, Lady K'ab'al Xook.
Lady Xook, on the bottom right of the panel, is in the hallucinatory stage of the bloodletting ritual. She conjures before her a vision of a Teotihuacan serpent.

recently - they clearly have been defined as initiate & healing temples designed to re-arange the bodies to heal and/or expand coherent consiousness to greater diameters ("cosmic consciousness"). just like all other temples of incredible civilasations like the Maya.
