Luffy is like Roger, he doesn't ask you to join his crew. He decides it for you and because of his great charisma, they just go along with it. I hope Luffy and Zoro team up in the future and that Zoro becomes vice-captain.

@LittlePokeDigi I thought this at first too, but Rayleigh wouldn't have lasted. On Sabaody he only just managed to hold off Kizaru. With Aokji and Akainu putting pressure on him along with the rest of the marines he would have being killed easily. Hell, Whitebeard took some serious damage before he could repay any of it to Akainu, and even then he didn't manage to kill him, and Luffy just got crushed. Rayleigh's strong, but he's out of his prime. Zoro's taking his place :D

Roger gave the hat to Shanks & Shanks gave the hat to Luffy. I think what Shanks meant by Luffy returning the hat to him when he is strong is that when Luffy becomes Pirate King, he will pass down the hat to the next pirate who also posses the will of D. If thats the case then Shanks may also have the middle initial D. it just hasnt been revealed yet. The hat & the Will of D are related & those who posses both have a far greater destiny than those who only posses the Will of D.
The hat is a symbol of the pirate era. it started the pirate era (Roger) and it will end the pirate era. The one who posses the hat will direct the faith of the pirates.
@n1ghtmare27593 Why do you think that? He is a fishman of his word and he said that he will keep the promise Ace asked of him. So i doubt he will die and you don't know if he will or not just thinking since as i heard the manga only is up to the end of the New Fishman Arc.
@Tyrant9 Well, it's just an assumption because Jinbei was even in the war of the best meant to die but he actually didn't. What I think is that this last thing he has to do will greatly benefit/help luffy and his crew in some way but will cost him his death. I might be false though. Let's just wait and see. :)
@n1ghtmare27593 Well no i'm kind of waiting to see him actually joining the crew cuz hell they need a fishman cuz if the four hammers fell into the sea and there are sea kings etc in there while thoses like Sanji or Zoro might be able to go in and save them they may be too distracted with fighting off the sea kings while the hammers sink but if jinbe was there he can benefit them for one a new style of fighting, two retrieving hammers, fish communication for various things etc.

I was thinking that maybe Jinbei wasn't gonna join the SH crew per se, like riding Sunny and traveling with them, but become a subordinate member of the SH pirates, like all the subordinates Whitebeard had, since Jinbei currently has his own crew as members of you-know-who.

@examinor Maybe when he finally meets shanks in person for the first time from their departure when he was younger they will talk about the hat etc, but if he does meet Shanks before he becomes Pirate King or finally gets to One Piece then wouldn't that mean he'd have to give the hat back? @n1ghtmare27593 Why do you think that? He is a fishman of his word and he said that he will keep the promise Ace asked of him. So i doubt he will die and you don't know if he will or not just thinking since as i heard the manga only is up to the end of the New Fishman Arc.

@Tyrant9 Well, it's just an assumption because Jinbei was even in the war of the best meant to die but he actually didn't. What I think is that this last thing he has to do will greatly benefit/help luffy and his crew in some way but will cost him his death. I might be false though. Let's just wait and see. :)

@n1ghtmare27593 Well no i'm kind of waiting to see him actually joining the crew cuz hell they need a fishman cuz if the four hammers fell into the sea and there are sea kings etc in there while thoses like Sanji or Zoro might be able to go in and save them they may be too distracted with fighting off the sea kings while the hammers sink but if jinbe was there he can benefit them for one a new style of fighting, two retrieving hammers, fish communication for various things etc.

I was thinking that maybe Jinbei wasn't gonna join the SH crew per se, like riding Sunny and traveling with them, but become a subordinate member of the SH pirates, like all the subordinates Whitebeard had, since Jinbei currently has his own crew as members of you-know-who.

@examinor Maybe when he finally meets shanks in person for the first time from their departure when he was younger they will talk about the hat etc, but if he does meet Shanks before he becomes Pirate King or finally gets to One Piece then wouldn't that mean he'd have to give the hat back? Since the agreement was that the next they met out at sea he'd give the hat back.

and to clear up alot of comments lol luffy will never be called anything but straw hat (mugiwaraluffy) firstly because his flag has the straw hat on so even if he gives the hat up he will still be known and trademarked as that when navy ships see his flag the hat will be the thing witch makes them tremble in fear :P and lastly a pirate flag is eternal :)

@stardom64 I knew that always, but I remember, Luffy got the will of the D. (We don't know what is exactly this yet) and the beggining of this anime shows us the last words of Gol D. Roger and the one who receives them correctly was Luffy, so he got his will... But this is just my interpretation, maybe you got a better idea.

@gojetafu But the Will of D. doesnt mean they all have to act childish like Luffy and Roger are/were :P Luffy is nothing like Dragon. Dragon is the serious, yet sensitive man. A true leader, who wants true justice for this world. Luffy is the food-loving, childish person that loves jokes, and he isnt really a leader. Sure he is the captain, but the other Straw Hats usually pick up the important information. But nothing wrong with Luffy at all, gotta love him.

@a43tech Maybe in the past, Roger got that name and because Roger had given the hat away (to Shanks), he lost his trademark from his straw hat and people stop calling him that name. By the time Luffy gives away his mugiwara to another entrusted person in the future, his name "Mugiwara Luffy" may also fall and people start calling him "Pirate King, Luffy D. Monkey". :D *grin*
