  • her phrasing. so beautiful.

  • SO MUCH BACK-PHRASING. I love it.

  • Love Love Love her #1

  • Love it. Bravissimo Barbara! You've gained a new fan!

  • Not a "semi-nude fitness video" a la Gaga and other charlatans. Just talent and technique = magic

  • Unbelievable....at 21!!!!!!! who can say that they've achieved something so great at that age...not I..Untouchable level for so many....She is HUGE....she makes me cry...and I'm a dude....loveble woman

  • There is absolutely no one to compare.

  • I remember seeing this way back when it first appeared on British Television... and my father asked: "So who is this girl? Can she sing?" - "Ha!"

  • I can't believe this was 1963 i mean really i'm flabbergasted! AND she's only 21! With so much class and talent beyond measure!

  • Possibly one of the most superb singers of her day and beyond. Interesting interpretation of this beautiful song.

  • Amazing!

  • I can think of only one other "girl singer' who is as Great as Barbra of my generation. Barbra makes each song a 3 act play. Few singers can do that emotional thing Barbra does. None of the singers of today even compare! Poor kids today don't know what a great singer is!

  • This is by far the most superb interpretation of Bewitched, Bothered & Bewildered ever.

  • OMG. This is amazing.

  • one of the greatest video of Barbra Streisand in her early years. i admire this lady for so many years now.

  • wow

  • Amazing, amazing, amazing!!

  • This stuff gives u goose bumps.....wow! There are no words to describe a voice like this. You just marvel...

  • Barbra brings this song to a WHOLE new level.

    It's absolutely beautiful.

  • hers is the best version of this

    no contest

(and really of almost every standard she ever did. its why the whole catalogue was pretty much retired in mainstream after she did them. there no room for improvement, and nobody has come close before or since)

  • Very classy, personable and lyrical version of this song. My personal favorite remains Ella's soft rendering, which leaves me breathless...

  • That's what got me. The phrasing ... so gifted, making each song hers, alone.

  • oh my God, this made me shiver... so young and so powerful already! Lovely.

  • just beautiful phrasing at: 1:48! 'I'll sing to him..'

  • @billygoyboyII oh my god, i totally agree with you, it's my favourite part of this performance.......love it love 60's Barbra -well any Barbra song to be honest:)

  • Honestly, while her voice sounds great, this phrasing is completely and totally overindulgent. I'm sick of it by the end.

  • The difference between this and Ella, is that Barbra makes this about her, and Ella simply lets the lyrics and the melody do its job. Ella sings it pure with little embellishment.

Richard Rogers music, Lorenz Hart's classy provocative lyrics ("vexed again, perplexed again, Thank God i can be oversexed again"), Paul Smith making 88 keys new with each verse and the sweet, exquisite, and subtle phrasing of Ella's voice. We overuse superlatives in this age but this deserves every possible one.

  • Why is it after the song is over I find myself breathing heavily and realize I had held my breath throughout most of the song. Every. Single. Time.

  • I think the version of Lara Fabian is way better !

  • I think the version of Lara Fabian is way better !

  • I love this version, Barbra is heavenly as always. I would say that, although she acts this song very well, really putting the meaning across, as an overall musical 'package' I do prefer Ella's version.

It's always a hard task for me to decide who i like better, Ella or Barbra, both are in a class of their own.

  • Wow. Who sings like thus today. No one.

  • @rcir2 TRUE!!!! she's like the greatest singer EVER

  • So very overindulgent!

  • Beautiful song!! Barbra at One of her best moments in her career. What a lovely singer and singing voice!!

  • She doesn't just bring you into the song, she pulls you into the story.

  • A completely unique and original performer! She's just beautiful.

  • No way is this version better than Ella's. As an audiophile and court reporter, my ears are clear of all wax. Betrayed, bothered and bored by her version.

  • Wow.

  • All I can possibly say is,,,,I AM Bewitched by Barbra!

  • Nothing quite like it.

  • Simple the best performance ever of this song. Ella's version is great, but it comes 2nd after Barbra. Voice, melody and performance are just amazing and atonishing.

  • i love this an her voce is the only thing i listen to mostly she is the only thing tht calms me

  • Beautiful. Grandiose. Magnificient.

  • watched barbra's one night only dvd today, she sang this song it gave me chills, had to come and find this, stunning vocals both then and now she honestly cannot be touched she's a master storyteller!!!

  • She is so completely amazing. She has so much emotion in her voice. I strongly dislike people who just simply sing this song and do nothing more with it. The songs lyrics alone have personality and who better to draw that out than Barbara =). LOVE IT!!!

  • What amazes me is that she was not emulating anything we had ever seen before. When they say she's an original, it really is true and not a bit gratuitous.

  • fan tas tic!

  • als ik zo kon zingen, luisterde ik heel de dag naar mezelf

  • Can't touch this!

  • satchelluc, you putz, snoody??? you can't spell, so how can you be taken seriously? Or are you just uneducated, low trash???

  • ps bewitched bothered and bewildered is not what i would refer to as rubbish - thanks

  • dear satchelluc - while i respect your right to have an opinion - mine differs from yours. i like all music - saw acdc the other night, anthony and the johnsons last month and liza in november. - they were all great - liza is/was terrific, professional, vulnerable, extraordinary, brave, thoughtful - i love her but streisand was is and will always be in a class of her own - yeah, she sometimes chooses rubbish to sing , but she has the voice - nobody can take that away from her -

  • Her acting is even more beautiful then her singing.

  • .mesmerizing...

  • oh this is different... I like her interpretation of this wonderful song...I also did a duet with this marvelous tune...I am no Strieshand though...cries...

  • It's rough to be in love with a lady for forty years and can't do a thing about it! Isn't she just fantastic???

  • A quintessential singer. Awesome is the only word

  • Ninafan68, if you think these emotions are a little fake, I think you need to watch again. Don't confuse natural elegance with a lack of authenticity. And as for Ella--a great singer, but she never delved into the emotions of a song like Streisand has done over and over again.

  • Ruth Buzzy from laugh-in did the best version of this on!

  • I feel sorry for Barbra. She had NO PLANS to be a singer. Her dream was to be an actress. To bring CHARACTERS to life, to be a vessel for life and not sell herself, Barbra Streisand, as the art itself. Yet this is what happened. At this point in her career, she was all wild and primitive wonder, without really having really come to terms her incredible gift. She knows this better than any of us.

  • You feel sorry for Barbra?!? I guess reaching the pinnacle of success in several arenas is something to pity!

  • @oriac1212 I don't know if there's any truth in Messylin's comment, but fame and money may not equal success to a person who sells themself out.

  • And that's how I defined success where?

  • In the fact that you were contradicting someone who claimed that, despite her so-called sucess, she was unhappy with her career. You took the opposite view which led me to believe you defined sucess in the material sense as opposed to personal satisfaction.

  • just beautiful..great talent and wonderful woman

  • Check out Rosemary Clooney's version. She was well over 50 and brings such humour and pathos to it.

  • heavenly. no one can touch this...

  • Doris Day's version is pretty swell as well!

  • Although I love Barbra's version, I prefer Ella's. Ella's version is simplier, less mannered, she doesn't do pathos. I've always felt that Barbra's emotions were a little fake, she evokes an emotion or she acts it out but doesn't genuinely FEEL it like, say, Billie Holliday. Still, she has a magnetism that is quite mesmerizing. I think she is better today, that she simplified her style as grew older. In spite of everything I mentioned before, I love her!

  • ONLY Barbra can phrase a song in only a way she can sing it and at such a tender age...A true master! My father was always in love with her style and my mom, well, she sold her nylons once in Brooklyn...

  • @gertmeister totally agree... it is because she has mastered the technique of singing high soft notes sooo easily! love her version!

  • phrasing....the right way and right length to hold a note....the HEART that goes into it.....how to FEEL and DELIVER a song.....this my friends is the PERFECTION that is Barbra......i dare anyone to top that

  • Barbra is a true artist....but I dare to venture Keely Smith was equally as wonderful.

  • Celine Dion? Please don't mention her in the same sentence as Barbra. Celine has a voice, but Barbra can sing and tell a story. Celine just belts with little substance (American Idol generation style). I'm 29, not some old fart saying this.

  • Hey parachuteboi Barb was way before Celine.

  • She"s wonderful!

  • Part 3 When practiced properly your voice will develop style, smooth and efortless transition between the low, middle and high voice registers a nice voice quality blended into a combination of chest and falsetto voice, dynamic control, efortless high notes, phlegm clear voice, color, longevity etc. However you need to persevere and work some time(about a year and beyond)for the voice to respond to this technique...!

  • Celine Dion already perfected that technique by the time she was 20.

  • Phonation Part 2

The singer practices special exercises( very soft vocalizations)using the consonants m an n to help the voice sound in the resonance cavities...

You can start with any note sung very softly(pp) as Jium up to any higher note as Mium and then descend down and up etc. and after 5 min start with the other vowels...Jam mam .... Jei meim..... Jom mom....and .... Jum Mum.

  • I´ve heard some so called vocal experts or musicians called Phonation head tones...Come on it´s much, much, much more than that ....Frank Sinatra, Tonny Bennet, Sarah Vaughn, Johnny Mathis and of course barbara are true masters of this technique...!

  • 2:04

  • Great, Great she gives you a lesson on phonation!(the art of singing into the resonance chambers)

  • I agree, but would you please explain more about the resonance chambers? Now I interested :) . Barbra sings this beautifully.

  • Part 1... First of all the resonance chambers are the lips, nose and forehead Phonation(sound production) is the phenomenon which occurs when the vocal cords vibrate producing thus vibrations called vortices(tiny puffs of sound waves) This vibrations which by the way appear inside as circles of sound similar to the smoke circles produced by the cigarrette smoker whe photographed with sophisticated equipment travel through the throat passages all the way up into the resonance chambers

  • Thanks! Thats a very elaborate explanation, thankyou muchly!

  • I had this favorited and someone took it away. This performance is absolutely perfect! Thanks for posting!!!

  • I have never seen / heard this performance. Agreed: one of her VERY BEST performances ever. Hope she returns to this "unplugged" style.

  • Amazing. Thanks!
