And I think they're at a place thats good for them, and I'm guessing they must be happier not having to dress up in make up for every show. @msElectra100 My personal favorite J- rock bands so far are Dir en grey, Girugamesh, Versailles Philharmonic Quintet, Deathgaze, The GazettE, Nightmare, and Exist Trace (There are more, but they don't come up to mind right away)... I myself am quite new to J- rock (and I really wish I started listening sooner), I discovered the genre in March earlier this year... I hope you find these bands tasteful!! ^u^

I like their old stuff, but it still feel somewhat artificial... Their new stuff, since Marrow of a bone, on the other hand, is pure, raw, emotion... Before them, I was listen to death metal so screaming and growls don't bother me at all, but I can understand how it can turn off some people...

actually, a lot of bands go through this. When this song was released, Dir en grey was still signed to an independent label. Once they signed with bigger labels, they lost their "visual kei" styles trying to appeal to the mainstreaming audience. However, Dir en grey is a great band because they are not afraid of experimentation. Especially Uruboros, probably they're best album, showed what the band is truly capable of as artists.

What are you talking about, if anything the VK look was more of an attempt to break the mainstream, their current harder/melodic stuff has far smalller an audience than the big VK bands.

Uroboros is fucking amazing........but Dum Spiro Spero, ............I have no words to describe the sheer brilliance of that album, greatest metal album ever created in my humble opionon.

humble indeed, actually, VK is much more obscure currently around the world than before. Bands like X Japan, L'arc en ciel, buck-tick, and luna sea(just to name a few) broke their VK style knowing they'll need to appeal to a wider audience. Thus rendering VK even more obscure with such big bands gone. Dir en grey is at the top of their career right now, with Dum Spiro Spero following the success of withering to death and Uruboros.

buck tick is really great, their ability to diversify is shown as you can easily identify the change that took place during the course of their career and still be awesome. You should look into X Japan, its the only band the world you'll find that starts an album with hardcore fast metal, and the NEXT song right after will be a soft rock-ballad. They're probably the most well known Japanese artists around the world.
