The balancing issues are pretty easy to work around, and at the time of this review they weren't very apparent (it was only a few days after the game was released, after all).
Nice review. MW2 was the worst COD ever made. Initially u may find it find but after a while, u will be constantly pissed off. Beside lack of dedi servers, game balance was horrible. Guns generally lacking recoil and sway (except a few like f2000, ak47, mp5k), G18 akimbo, commando, OMA tubing, SP being the staple perk and last but not least, deathstreaks was a dumb idea.
Well, glad you liked the review, but the balancing issues didn't hold a candle to the IWNet problems. I'm not really surprised they didn't fix them though. Infinity Ward's never really been good at fixing balancing problems.
Worst CoD though? No. Definitely not. That would be CoD3, but only because it was given 8 months to be made from the ground up. Treyarch's been getting better and better though, so I hope Black Ops is as good as it looks to be.
Call of Duty is a different style of shooter than Unreal, but both are excellent games (well... CoD3 and MW2 *should be* anyway... but there's just too much bringing them down).
@Overtime29 the game is not great as it used to be. With MW2, my friends only talked about it for about a week, then the fact that the game isnt actually that great sunk in, as well as the fact that the game is just as glitched, if not worse than MW1.
Most definitely it's a console game. It's still fairly fun in short "bursts" of play, but beyond that it's fairly tedious. Singleplayer's too short, spec-ops is only fun with a buddy, and multiplayer's a mess.
The series is dead on PC as far as anyone's concerned. Sad, but a comment on the growing trend of what publishers and developers go for.
Yes, you require Steam for MW2. I haven't played the console version yet, but since the PC version is a direct port I'd say it's probably about the same.
lol 2.5/5.I didn't saw that anyone that gave so low rating, but hey everyone has their opinion. Still a good review!
I have this game on Xbox 360 and I must say it is really good, but like you said it is like it is made for Xbox 360 and it was in a hurry unfortunately badly ported to PC.
Glad you liked the review, and yeah, most reviewers loved the game. I probably *would* have if they actually put some effort into the PC version instead of giving us consolized crap. Like W@W it has potential, but all that potential was squandered and as a result the game is sub-par.
It's nightmarish on PC. Half the time the matchmaking puts me in servers with pings over 250. A fourth of the time it puts me in some between 150-250, then the other fourth is 100-150. I've *never* played with a ping under 100.
That's why we've had dedicated servers since around 1997 (Quake 2). I can't imagine why ANYONE would think a server browser is infinitely inferior to a matchmaking system, when the opposite is the reality. Console gamers have really been screwed over all these years.
Im on ps3 and i understand on pc how frustrating that would be to take everything out that pc gamers like about pc i have usually 80-90 ping on all servers unless im playing wow at the same time
At least you're one of the ones who at least sympathize. It's the console players that don't understand our frustration that irritate me. They act like their system is perfect no matter what it is, when it's actually vastly inferior.
I VERY rarely get under 120 ping on MW2. Normally I'm somewhere between 150-200. They said it'd be lag-free. It's not. -_-
I've gotta give Treyarch credit for two things: continual support of their community and learning from their mistakes. CoD3 only had an 8-month development cycle, so I can understand it sucking so badly. W@W was actually pretty decent (singleplayer was pretty good, but multiplayer was so horrendously unbalanced that the only saving grace was Nazi Zombies).
Sad part is, they also did Finest Hour and Big Red One. Both of those were actually pretty good, so I dunno how they went bad.
It was the PC community that made CoD successful in the first place. The first game was a PC-exclusive, after all.
The 360 community actually made CoD4 game of the year. PC definitely played a role, but the vast majority of purchases were on the consoles, so they decided to go that route in MW2.
Yeh I got no lag. None of my friends get any lag, and none of the other players in all my 30hrs of playing so far have complained about lag unless a host as dropped off. And then there was a short wait to a new host is chosen.
I guess YOU got incredibly unlucky. IWnet is incredibly streamlined and works great.
I've got over 50 hours of MW2 now, and 9/10 times I still get bad lag (200+ ping). It fluctuates depending on whether IWNet wants to work with me or not, but I've never had 0 lag except when I was hosting (which was only in Spec Ops and a private match just to check out Rust).
I'm not the only one. There are thousands of people whom the matchmaking seems to hate. A server browser is definitely far more efficient and dedicated servers remove the host's ping advantage. Host migration is annoying.
It's almost entirely console-focused. If it were a proper cross-platform release, then they'd have dedicated servers (at LEAST give us a system like Left 4 Dead where we can have official dedicated servers with matchmaking for instant action rather than some random player's PC on their DSL connection), optional matchmaking, good optimization (which sadly, is not present in MW2), and PC-specific controls (leaning and a console in this case).
Then you're incredibly lucky. I'm one of thousands who can't play without lag thanks to the matchmaking's idea of a "good" ping being 150 (and that's just for the average ping of the lobby, not the actual server).
well, I get the odd, 1 in 15 matches that has lagg, but meah... overall, Id rate the game 4.5/5, they have the Dragunov in SP, but not MP, left out alot of guns, which I am sad about, they could have added a folliage attachment for snipers and some guns, meah, also, 1911 Pistol (My favourite)
I miss a lot of the weapons from CoD4 and some of the new ones are just stupid. The fact that there are more shotguns than sniper rifles simply shows how console-ized it is (a ton more spraying on consoles).
I'd have given the game 4.5/5 if the online service wasn't total crap. As it stands, I can only have fun maybe 1/10 times (with the other 9 being lag-fests). Server admins are definitely needed as well, but with the current system we just have to put up with hackers.
Why notthing about how un ballanced the multiplayer is?

great review, I like how honest you were with the game. Because everything you said is pretty much very true.

Sad, huh? MW2 would probably be a great game were it not for the absolutely broken logistics.
Glad you liked the review.

when they got rid of dedicated servers infinity ward officially made cod a console shooter
even though the series started on the pc
infinity ward has pretty much killed their franchise for pc users and the console weenies will rate it as "teh best game evar!!!"

Wow, you NEED Steam for MW2? That's a major set back. Not that I buy many games for PC often but, still. What would you rate the Console version?

Yay, I finally got to watch this review! It was a good one.
They really botched this one up, didn't they? In the words of an inferior critic to you, WHAT THE F*** WERE THEY F****** THINKING!?
Blooming console gamers ruin everything... Enough to make me buy the game on console with yucky non-HD graphics! -_-

And yes, MW2 in its current state (on PC, anyway) is only a fragment of what it *should* be.

Not a bad review man, just finished playing it and i have to agree, no dedicatet servers is the biggest flaw.
However i really loved the campaign, alot more epic than the last one, however still pretty short, about 5-6 hours on reguler fels a bit to thin.
I just hope that Treyarch dosent make another "cock of doddy", seriusly, IMO Tryarch can go fuck themselves, they dont know what they are doing
