  • @dROUFrank - spot on matey! Professionalism and musicianship just excites jealousy and incomprehension in the ignorant.

  • someone said it was too fast

their love of the halflings leaf has clearly slowed their mind

  • pure genius

  • Jesus christ, every time I listen to this it stuns me. I come back thinking it's effect will have diminished in me, always mistakenly.

Where some hear "bombast", I hear ambition; where some hear "pretension", I hear passion.

  • @dROUFrank ....I have listened to this since it came out in the 70s and boy yours is the best post I've seen on the subject. Absolutely true. Still get chills. Saw them do it live, and recently wrote Lake to tell him how much it still means, he actually wrote back and was really pleased that people were still moved by it all.

  • a King's read out as wine serving now!

  • If you were lucky enough to see this in the original quad venue , you would look on todays music as utter garbage , Nothing compares to what they did in that show , and I've seen hundreds of shows. You had to be there.

The likes of this will never be seen again , Only Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush blew me away more then the live Brain Salad show.

  • @vegasshowgirlshoes

I was lucky enough to see it...in St.Louis when they came there on the BSS tour. I was about 3rd row center and yes, it was just nuts. You left that show drained and amazed.

  • Heard Keith Emerson on the radio the other day (Planet Rock) and he said that the Hendrix story was not true. It was some journalistic hoax from the late 1970s, based around the fact that the group could have been called HELP instead of ELP

  • Suddenly I notice that this sounds just like a final boss theme from a SNES game!

  • from the first note to the very last is a delight. And it gets better everytime I listen to it!!!!!!!

  • And just imagine... Hendrix was supposed to be with these guys.

It seems a little unlike his style, but they would've found a way to include his kickass guitar.

    Unfortunately, we'll never know.

  • @MrCincinnatian Actually, I heard that story, too. And maybe its hard to picture, or maybe its just me. But I couldnt really see that happenin. Two different worlds comin together. Plus, I`ve never really been that particular bout Hendrix, anyway. I know; Im a rare breed. But seems to me these guys were fine the way they are.

  • @estyle40 ELP is like Classical/Jazz/Rock, Hendrix was like Blues on acid. ELP, very structured, timed and exact, Hendrix was more 'on the fly' (pun intended!). Two very different styles, they'd have clashed.

  • @Iknewb4udid LOL, nice pun! Yeah, thats what I mean; really hard to imagine. What would they call themselves, for one thing: HELP (Hendrix, Emerson, Lake & Palmer)? Im sure Im not the first person who thought of that, but..............lol

  • Cold and misty morning, I heard a warning borne in the air

About an age of power where no one had an hour to spare,

Where the seeds have withered, silent children shivered, in the cold

Now their faces captured in the lenses of the jackals for gold.

  • Love 1:18. More cowbell carl !

  • 13 minutos de pura perfeccion e innovacion :), me encanta ELP es uno de los mas grandes proyectos mastodonticos del Rock es lo mejor que hay..!!! a la mierda el reggaeton y todos sus iguales..

  • Why are you fucking with the voices and stuff in this video? That's like saying the Mona Lisa needs a few touch-ups!

  • 5:13 to 5:25 organ reminds me of the theme of The Rockford Files.

  • I am there

    I am there

    I'm surely there...

  • My subs will get this. It's always been one of my favs. It has a different meaning to me now though.

  • "Cold and misty morning, I heard a warning borne in the air

About an age of power where no one had an hour to spare,

Where the seeds have withered, silent children shivered, in the cold

Now their faces captured in the lenses of the jackals for gold.

    I'll be there"

"Suffering in silence, they've all been betrayed.

They hurt them and they beat them, in a terrible way,

Praying for survival at the end of the day.

There is no compassion for those who stay."

  • There must be someone who can set them free: To take their sorrow from this odyssey To help the helpless and the refugee To protect what's left of humanity. Can't you see Can't you see Can't you see. I'll be there I'll be there I will be there; To heal their sorrow To beg and borrow Fight tommorow.
  • My marching band is playing part 2 of this song!

  • @DIEHARDRailFan

    Have.

    Someone.

    Film.

    It.

    Please!!!!!

    nuf said

  • not only is their music ahead of it's time, but the album artwork is as well. i mean, what 70's albums looked this awesome?

  • @bassenigma Do you want a list? Some of the greatest album artworks were from the 70's

  • @bassenigma HR Giger art- same guy that did a lot of the design on Alien. Damn creepy haha.

  • oh the memories.. The Nostalgia.. Overwhelming.

  • Yeah Greg& Chris shared a flat for a bit.Well you all know what that did for rock history.

  • Yea, ELP was ambitious. With the best keyboardist alive, one of the top 5 drummers and one of the best guitar/bass players they can afford to be extremely ambitious.

  • Like YES, ELP was a very ambitious band. They both took progressive rock to the outer limits.

  • Now THIS is music. Gaga, or whatever your name is, are you listenin??? lol

  • @jotapecu, Geddy Lee of Rush is a very good bassist, and if you listen to him during say, La Villa Strangiato or YYZ he is playing very hard parts.

  • good, no dislikes

  • Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends!!!

  • My brother Coleman had this record one time and was angry whenever I used his record player without his permission.

  • soon some dude named dave will awake and smoke a jay

then goes on with his day ,can't behave, can't behave...

roll up! roll up! roll up!

    see the shooooooooooooooooooooooow!

  • 5:34 wtf happened there, I was walking when listening to this and I almost misstepped

  • 'Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends' ..............the show never ends with this this piece of rock genius. It sounds just as good now as it did when I was a lad!

  • So much more to the First Impression than meets the classic rock radio ear. Love the full version.

  • @SimuLord i know. my local classic rock radio station plays part II all the time, but no doubt I'd rather hear part I or the whole thing all at once.

  • This song was remixed for a shareware PC game called DX-Ball.

  • thk u very much!!!!!!!!

  • LOVE this music!

  • gosh. imagine keith and greg forcing jimi hendrix, the blues-rock, acid-inspired psychedelic guitarist more akin to cream and the doors, to play this sort of progressive stuff. no wonder jimi never signed on with them to form H.E.L.P. dang i would pay some hard core cash now to see hendrix play with these guys.

  • Orgasmic

  • I saw them at Cincinnati gardens in Ohio back in the early seventies.Great.One of my favorites from that time. When I hear the opening to Jerusalem,I get wired. Thanks Raky, you have made my day.

  • Wow... great progressive song. This is pure art!!!!!!! But i prefer Yes.

  • @Ramsmeat Awesome, but i preffer your mom.

  • @plasticPlaystation And I prefer your sister.

  • They made music which was art not the current crap. The current crap is only ment to take money not be artistic vision that after forty years still stands the test of time. Long may common sense live and let artists make music for music sake, not money.

  • @dizzymanfallingdown - PLEASE checkout "Progulus d0t c0m", you will be sure to see more music such as this from the late 60's to now and beyond (Prog Rock/Metal), including all of ELP's albums (well, missing 3 of them for now ;). I invite anyone to join our family of proggers who enjoy the craft of music for the sake of Art :).

  • Emerson Lake and Palmer is my MOST favorite classic progressive rock band EVER...Thanks so much for posting this majestic piece, RakyMaky. You so prog!

  • Greg Lake was a superb bassist. I think there´s not player like him today. There´s no group in this planet (just today) who can play that chord and changing metrics. There´s no musician like in the ´70s...

  • @jotapecu Does it while singing too

  • this is art! Long live ELP!! fuck Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and all those shitty "musicians"!

  • this is art! Long live ELP!! fuck Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and all those shitty "musician"!

  • Keith Emerson the concert pianist is magnificant. It was either them or the Who where I lost some hearing at the concerts.

  • Keith Emerson the concert pianist is magnificant.

  • God, I love this song. It's my all time constant second (favourites come and go, you know). It so happened that many years ago I borrowed best of ELP from my friend - that's when I discovered it, and when I had to give it back, I couldn't listen to any ELP for about 2 years. When I finally bought the CD I had a mental orgasm listening to this. It's the best. I love big orchestral works. Why be content with a dry sandwich when you can have a full roast lunch with sides and desserts? :D

  • Some of their best in my opinion is from "Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends" ladies and gentlemen Emerson Lake and Palmer a live album

  • gotta love perfection.....timeless

  • what's most amazing about this is that it was recorded almost 40 years ago. 40 YEARS AGO. AND IT STILL TOTALLY ROCKS THE SHIT OUT OF ANYTHING MADE TODAY

  • Classic................!

  • Is this from the first album or another album?

I have listened to this 20 times in a week. Truly great!

  • @takidigits13 emerson lake and palmer was their eponymous debut album, this is from brain salad surgery, their fourth album.

  • @takidigits13 it's from the fourth album, Brain Salad Surgery (5th if you count the first live album "pictures at an exhibition"). i agree, this thing is so epic it never gets old!!!

  • I'll be there!

  • @awilensky fav line

  • superior musicianship and their best composition, i think. 1 thing, i know; they may have had big egos whatever but their talents matched them.

  • @maida1982a My dad saw an ELP show, and he said that afterwards, the band members went down to a local bar. He said they acted just like anyone else. Super cool guys.

  • @SgtNuker I always decided that if I were rich and famous, that's what I'd do. :) I like 'em even more now.

  • @maida1982a Except they totally ripped off Bach...

  • @WaveRyeDer99 So did Walter Murphy ("Toccata and Funk") and that worked out well enough for him.

  • @WaveRyeDer99 everybodys ripped off everybody!

  • @maida1982a After writing such asskicking awesome shit, they have the right to have apocalyptically huge egos.

  • when those first organ strains come through to you . . man, that's the shit!!

  • welcome back my friends, to the show that never ends!

  • i feel like the youngest here to listen to this so far i havent seen any stupid jb comments...

  • I came

  • This copy appears to be an older CD issue because the song - as on the vinyl version - actually fades out and back in between parts 1 and 2 of the 1st Impression.

  • @ClassicTVMan1981X yup, that's when you'd have to turn the record over back in the real old days . .

  • That one guitar line is epic...

  • thanks for posting this in this audio quality... this is one of best album of hystory..great job my friend ...

  • happy birthday keith!!!

  • THANK'S TO THE LORD RACYMACY FOR NICE HIGH QUALITY !!!

  • WELL, THOSE DUDES ARE MY FAVOR BAND ALL TIMES !!!

  • ELP definitely one of the greatest all time imo.

  • an absolute masterpiece by elp

  • a little distorted but i'll take it............ah the good ole days

  • Little bit of an ELP kick, huh Raky? This is a great record, my favorite of their entire output.

By the way, have you ever put up some Vandergraff Generator? How about Be-bop Deluxe's Sunburst Finish?

    Cheers.

  • Awesome!

Although I can't help but point out that Sinfield's lyrics are kind of ridiculous.

    Court > Surgery

  • @SupperOfTheMightyOne

court > 99% of prog. period

  • @txeire

    Court > All other prog.

  • @SupperOfTheMightyOne

heh heh..well, i cant go that far personally.

  • @txeire what about selling england by the pound? court may have been the first prog album, but selling england is the best

  • @MrBigmuffer i said 99%. Selling England would be one of those 1% :-D

  • @SupperOfTheMightyOne

    Wake> Court

  • @apieceofeight23

    Good luck justifying that one.

  • @SupperOfTheMightyOne I don't need to justify it. It's my opinion. I like Wake better than Court.
