Saw them do it live, and recently wrote Lake to tell him how much it still means, he actually wrote back and was really pleased that people were still moved by it all.

If you were lucky enough to see this in the original quad venue , you would look on todays music as utter garbage , Nothing compares to what they did in that show , and I've seen hundreds of shows. You had to be there.

The likes of this will never be seen again , Only Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush blew me away more then the live Brain Salad show.

@estyle40 ELP is like Classical/Jazz/Rock, Hendrix was like Blues on acid. ELP, very structured, timed and exact, Hendrix was more 'on the fly' (pun intended!). Two very different styles, they'd have clashed.

God, I love this song. It's my all time constant second (favourites come and go, you know). It so happened that many years ago I borrowed best of ELP from my friend - that's when I discovered it, and when I had to give it back, I couldn't listen to any ELP for about 2 years. When I finally bought the CD I had a mental orgasm listening to this. It's the best. I love big orchestral works. Why be content with a dry sandwich when you can have a full roast lunch with sides and desserts? :D
