He's got a point, nobody, can earn that much money without having a bad impact on others oportunities. And don't come here with the naive cliché phrase of "they have the right to earn as much as they can" because we all know that the greatest fortunes have been build based on exploitation, violence, abuse and crime. Bank executives, captains of industry, great businessmen, they are all the same. At some point, we, the people, have to stop them of becoming so big they can be dangerous for us all.
Yeah, and NFL players make less money than both MLB and the NBA. Republicans would just let the rich teams run rampant and buy all the championships. Democrats would just take all the money and dole out to you however much they think you need, regardless of how much of it you earned for them in the first place.
@trevorthemonkeey his statement was a generalization about most Americans' views on baseball. i doubt he hates it. even if he does, that wasnt the point of his argument lol
Bill's analogy falls short when you add further scrutiny. MLB has revenue sharing just as the NFL does. The Pittsburgh Pirates may suck, but they're the most profitable team in baseball (yes, more profitable than the Yankees). With no blackout rule, low attendence doesn't cost the Pirates any TV money like an NFL team would lose. Pirates ownership is content to pocket all revenue instead of investing in the team.
@xaviqaz Being voluntary or not has little relevance in Bill Maher's argument. He is arguing about the morality and effectiveness of giving everyone an equal opportunity. And he is not arguing that socialism is the answer, but giving everyone an equal chance at success is. And the answer, as Maher is arguing, definitely is not fostering a system where some succeed and most don't.
@MrRinalj09 Of course it has relevance. You can get out of NFL rules and play another league, you cannot get out of a country (other than migrating). By the way, in european sports the rich get richer and buy the best players. Football/soccer is a good example.
NFL = Socialism
NCAAFB = Capitalism.
here in the SEC, we are the 1%!!!!
