THIS is WHY ELVIS PRESLEY WILL ALWAYS BE THE ONE AND ONLY KING!! Welcome Home to all Milatary~ thanks for all you have done! God bless and Merry Chritmas!
As a teenager, I remember walking in one day to find my Mom (who never cried or showed emotion) crying at the kitchen sink-I was so taken aback-. The stereo was on loud (odd)and she said three words, "Elvis is Dead."
I was incredibly curious at what could cause this reaction. I listened to the non-stop music they were playing and became a "new" life-long Elvis fan----To this day I cannot hear him sing MY WAY without crying-there is just nothing comparable to it. Noone sings it like he does.
This concert was broadcast around the world and an estimated 1.5 BILLION people watched, who now days could command that interest and adulation. There was and will only ever be one KING OF ROCK AND ROLL and that is ELVIS.
@gypsydog24 .. I was just a few days from my 12th birthday when that aired. My dad didn't care much for Elvis back then, but my sisters, brother and my mom all wanted to watch the show and dad gave in. When it was over my dad said, "He has the best voice I ever heard." ...... and that's still true for me today. Best voice .. ever.
@tezterz Would have been great to be there, our appreciation of the greatest entertainer this world has ever seen would have been even more unforgettable live and in person.
im not too old, but this one song is tied for best vocal performance with pavarotti's nessun dorma ... cant decide wich is better ... but one thing is certain: they both give me goosebumps
i like elvis a whole lot his the man for me but i have a lot of his memerble it would take a big rental truck just for my elvis stuff i have he will never be dead in my life because when i listen to his music or watch a movie he is here with me i love him and he will always be the one i get to listen to and remeber him always ruth
His Mother and the loss inside of events in his life with Marraige is all seen on his expression when at this moment in time he performs this song sung. You dont fake that.
The 3 Saddest Days ever for me in my life for Entertainment were the days when Ed Sullivan died on October 13th 1974,Jack Benny died on December 26th 1974,and Elvis Presley died on August 16th 1977.
saw Elvis in concert in LV in 1974-1976. On one occasion, near the end of the show, he said, "We've got a little time left. What would you like to hear." A man in the audience said, "Dixie." Elvis then sang "American Trilogy." This was the only time I heard him sing this song in LV and it was just perfect. Elvis, on stage, left an impression that was spell-binding with his voice, his appearance and his back-up singers. Memories that will last a life-time.
@alexsaunter Thanks for your comments. Didn't know what 'cool' was until I saw him on tv in Jailhouse Rock. In 1966, 'cool' hit me in the face. 45 years later, it still hits me in the face when I hear the 'King' sing. Best wishes from this side of the pond.
Any Elvis fan who has not seen this performed as the finale of the laser show on stone Mtn, near Atlanta, GA where General Lee walks his horse across the body strewn battle field then breaks his sword in half and rides off the Mtn as the horns kick in , I have to say you realy MUST. I have never been able to keep a dry eye, and hardly anything makes me cry ..
I've always been an Elvis fan. Pictures of him all over my room as a teenager, etc. There will never be another person that can come close to being what Elvis was. And thanks to videos like this, no one will ever be either. He is truly missed by so many and lives on forever in our hearts and in heaven. R.I.P. Elvis!! You are still very much loved :O)
No one before him and no one since him compares to him. Took my wife to see him on New Year's Eve 1975 at the Pontiac Silverdome. The man came as advertised. He walked on stage like he'd invented it. My wife cried tears of joy. And the tickets were only $11 apiece. Thanks, Elvis, for a life-long memory.
@presleyrules You are a lucky person to have seen him live. I would cherish this moment forever. When I grew up, I was listening to him all the time and he was the reason I learned to play music. Elvis is the best entertainer ever!! He was respectful of his fans.

Do all know this was the very first satellite concert ever? TV guide reported 1.5 billion " that's a BILLION " watching this from around the World... Elvis gave all the money to Cancer research , did not make any money off this .
He was a special man. No one ever can touch him with his over all talent , personality, stage presents... and any other thing U can think of.
This is a link to Elvis half brother Rick Stanley " who is not a evangilist " its a radio interview ... worth listening to . He was at this concert part of Elvis crew, his job was to keep people from rushing the stage. He had the very last conversation with Elvis before he died . he tells how it change his life.
Sheer talent and the band which includes Whitney Houston's mother for one makes it my all time best even above Jimi Hendrix and Django Just enjoy the limiting on the brass section, Elvis does, as they build into the last chorus. Quite stratospheric. This is a rehearsal but it still outperforms most other acts....
singing this song , elvis was tired and wanted to go " home " to be with his mother in heaven. elvis was the never the same since his mother died. just listen to the lyrics.
It is my considered opinion that there are people whose mission it is to everyday scour YouTube and find posts that have no dislikes attached to them and stick a "dislike" on it. Good grief, how can anyone find this song so worthy of a "dislike" that he feels compelled to go through the whole bother of signing in just to mark this song "dislike"? Stinks that bad does it?
If you don't like this song and performance , then you must be touched in the head !!! Elvis electrified a room when he walked in. They say his chimp could tell when he got home and would go crazy!!! He felt his presence of Elvis before seeing or hearing his voice ..
@veeseee128 This song is An American Trilogy, which consists of Dixie, Battle Hymn of the Republic, and All My Trials. It reflects on the different perspectives of the civil war, and it was arranged by Mickey Newbury.
I was never really an Elvis fan until this concert in 1973..although I still did not like his acting..there is no one who will match his musical talent...his voice, even until the end, will never be matched in my opinion...He is the first singer that i truly like the live versions better then the recorded ones...

@MyGwarren Sorry but...who is the chimp?

@veeseee128 This song is An American Trilogy, which consists of Dixie, Battle Hymn of the Republic, and All My Trials. It reflects on the different perspectives of the civil war, and it was arranged by Mickey Newbury.

I was never really an Elvis fan until this concert in 1973..although I still did not like his acting..there is no one who will match his musical talent...his voice, even until the end, will never be matched in my opinion...He is the first singer that i truly like the live versions better then the recorded ones...

Elvis tells his fans during a concert that Jesus Christ is the King.
