Multipulsar in the face is so very effective. I liked using the laser if they jumped over you as they seemed to have no armour when in the air, and I loved the chatter from your teammates. I distinctly remember adding my own, even though no-one could hear it...
I still have the original disc to this game O_O I remember I somehow managed to pass to mission 66 in a day and I didn't pass that mission, it was imposible, but that was back then, wow what a good game this was O_o
Possibly the most under-appreciated Action/CRPG game of all time (except by those of us who loved it and cherish the memory). The gameplay, the story, the early use of NPC squadmates - just brilliant. It's crying out to be re-made with modern graphics.
From your shielding you just about made this mission!
Did you ever play the demo's? 1st one had one mission, 2nd had two missions, none of the missions were in the game, they were all separate. Those were the days when game companies and gamers recognised value for money Now publishers release game with 12 hours gameplay for $60 and the media score it 90% and gamers go out and buy it by the million! So sad, so very sad!
I used to play it to death, but I had a common problem. The speach file for Ng was broken, meaning that I couldnt use Ng. At I think mission 17, you HAD to use him and I couldnt continue :(
I bloody loved this game - the scrolling landscapes, the jump jets, the storyline... If only someone would remake it (or better yet, a sequel: Strike Force Earth, anyone?) with up-to-date graphics. :)
It's such a crime that this game doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Looking back to it now, damn it was so much ahead of it's time. I mean, huge scrolling landscapes and all.
Maybe you should try mounting the game folder as c: before executing the game?
In your case I think it would look like: "mount c c:\games\tnova" and then you would want to type "FF" to execute the game. Not sure if it would work though, it's fixed similar problems for me.
This game is such a classic!! The gameplay could still hold up today!! If they redone this game with the graphics of today but kept the gameplay the same, it would be just the most unbeatable game ever!
One of the best games ever, so ahead of it's time, everything about this game rules and still does, just think about a remake with modern graphics and game engine, that would certainly be a dream come true..
Very ahead of its time... The level of communication you had with other SFC units was brilliant and is only NOW being rivalled by the Tom Clancey games.
A remake would be good "NOT A SEQUEL" I'd love to see the old cast back too, even if they do look old now.
I have playing it in DOSBox too at good speed but not run very smooth, but it looks more smooth (and much better) whith VDMSound and NOLFB, but with a little problem, the turning speed sucks (around 10 sec. for a 360º turn), i don't know why. anyone can help me please???
This game runs in DOSBox fine in XP, I have it playing without any probs. I use the D.O.G. front end for DOSBox that makes it all very easy.
As to finding it, I got my new copy (my old one got worn out with overuse!)on ebay for $5 plus shipping, and well worth it at any price upto $25 in my book!
Yeah... This is a lot like System Shock, and has a similar interface to System Shock like Cenobite321 said. It even has some of the same sound effects... Anyone know where to get this game for DOSBox?
Not really, System Shock is more of a lonely exploration/shooter type game, whereas Terra Nova is a fast paced squad tactics game, the engines are fairly similar (it is Looking Glass after all) but that's where the similarities end.
Before Operation Flashpoint, Delta Force, and a plethora of others, there was TERRA NOVA. One of the best out-door FPS/squad games ever made. The AI was great. The detail, of the HUD, MFDs (even get "video" of other squad mades), commanding the Squrds RTS-style in map-mode, voices, fx, fmv, top notch. Amazing. No one has made a game like this since.
primarily because I really, really dig the HUD. Same reason why I never use the open or third person viewpoints in flight sims or driving games; if there's a dashboard view available, I'm using it.
I respect you're love for the classics, man, but I have to say, you're being way too aggressive. I can usually finish this mission a hair slower then you, but only get hit, three or four times. Try not to charge massive groups of enemies.
Enter "Looking Glass Classics" (with quotes) into your search engine of choice. Full version. If you play it in DOS (not DOSBOX), you may need a program called VesaFix. Look on the ttlg forums if you have any trouble. By the way, seems like the audio got really glitchy and skipped a fair bit in this video.
No idea, but jewel case copies of the game are a hair under $10 at http://www.cdaccess.com/html/quick/terranovpj.htm . From what I understand, the version most people download is missing all of the briefings and cutscenes. The cutscenes aren't much of a loss (outside of the comedy gold) but the briefings are kind of important to the game.

the segual is probably Crysis, wearing mechanical armors allowing super abilities and so on

the cutscenes - those were some bad acting sequences!
the graphics are pretty nice now that i think about it - the hills are curved and the enemies explode into bits.
never managed to work it on dosbox :(

This game is the perfect example of what a talented team can do by using a voxel-based engine instead of a polygonal one!
Gargantou 2 years ago
This is not a voxel-based game. Polygon edges in the terrain are clearly visible.

Damn, I was sure it was voxel-based.. My bad, thanks for clarifying!

Trying to run this in DOSBox and am told 'illegal command: c;\games\tnova\_FF.exe'.
If I install within DOSBox the game tells me I don't have 41mb free on my hard drive!

Nice! It's is interesting that some sounds and the interface are similar to System Shock.
One question: Are you playing this on DOSBox?
Cenobite321 5 years ago
Yea, I wound up using DOSbox because it was the easiest way to capture smooth video instead of using solvbe+vdmsound+fraps.
