You were also a paid employee of the Ambulance service during this time. The diploma program no longer exists really. The second )and now basically only way) to become a paramedic in Queensland is to go to uni for 3 years and do a bachelor of paramedic science. You finish the degree with all the drug protocols ect under your belt but you still have to apply to QAS and a job is NOT guaranteed at the end... hope that answered your questions!
If you got accepted you did an 8-week basic course which essentially showed you how to do CPR, administer oxygen, perform an ecg/ekg ect. It does not qualify you as an ACP (qualified paramedic). Once you did 8 weeks you then were put on-road with a qualified partner and you had 3 years of further study ahead where you'd become qualified in all the drugs, procedures ect.
Hey guys...In response to the questions below, here's the scoop. In Queensland thereare two methods of becoming a paramedic (although one doesn't really exist anymore)..You used to be able to do what was called the diploma program. The diploma program was run by QAS and you had to go through multiple selection processes to get into it. These included a written test, psychometric test, fitness test, medical and interview.
Paramedic training in Australia is only 8 weeks? how is that?... Im a Paramedic in the USA and here I spent 6 months in school becoming an EMT-Basic, then 8 months in EMT-Intermidiate school and then 2 years in a Paramedic Academy..... Ive always heard Australian Paramedic went to school for several years. I am unfamiliar with the system there, Can anyone educate me?
@everydayandrew88 In New South Whales its a Paramedic College, here in Victoria you have to attend university for 3 years to get a Paramedics degree and then you become a Graduate Paramedic, then Recruit then you can be a normal Medic :) After that you can excel to MICA (Mobile intensive care ambulance) and so on.
@everydayandrew88 Here In Western Australia the first year is full time at university then 3 years still studying at uni but also on the job so 4 years all up
@everydayandrew88 it depends what state your in (this show was shot in NSW). i am a paramedic student in Queensland and my course goes for 4 years at university (im doing a double in nursing also), when i graduate i will only be an advanced care paramedic and to be an intensive care medic i will have to do a post grad course for longer. there is a different system i think like the 8 week course and then u do several apprentice yrs on road and then go to panel for testing not 100% tho.
@ciicel I also want to be one, I dont know where you live, but in Mexico, at least there is the Red Cross, where they teach you to be one, and its not that expensive, a thousand mexican pesos a month for 12 moths, so maybe in your country you can check out the red cross I wish you the best!
@ciicel Depending on what state you're in in Australia you can volunteer for St Johns Ambulance, that can get you in the right direction and you can keep volunteering while you save up money :)
If your in australia there's a thing called hex the university pays for you to take the course and then once you start working they take that out of your pay and if you do not end up working you never have to pay the fee. total cost is $23:000 not including all the uniform and book's etc
It depends if your an australian resident if so you should be fine other wise contact the University you wish to study at and ask them about it!!! Best of luck.
You are a moron. I watched it to see what it is like. And I never said I don't like ambos, I said the show is boring. I don't believe the ambos actually produced and directed the show, so ....
@ChristophDollis Its an awesome show, the Ambos didnt direct and produce it, never says they did? It follows the life of a paramedic. Cordell Jigsaw produced it

OK. You like it. Great.
Are you going to swear at me again for a difference of opinion over a TV show?
