I'm still wondering what Martin was doing right then. He plays this awesome tune on his cello and then fails to even get near to how it sounded on the CD... I guess this is the reason they started playing it differently, something good came out of it :)

There are actually (at least) 3 studio versions btw. Aside from the original album version, there's also an acoustic one and a another different one on the lonely cryin' only single. I personally like the fast rock version they sometimes play the best anyway though.

the studio version is one of my favorite songs of the 90's rock movement.

maybe this time around the lead singer wanted to express the murder of Diane by actually 'murdering' his live performance of the song.

well... everybody has their bad days I guess. I'm pretty sure this isn't how he performs the song EVERY time.

I am a HUGE Husker fan and an even bigger Therapy fan. I saw them perform Diane on tour in Canada on the Infernal Love tour and it was closer to the studio version than this. I LOVE the studio version by Therapy and think they paid an incredible homage to the Husker boys. Not thrilled with THIS version, but thanks for posting it! It's hard enough to find stuff from bands that REALLY matter, like Therapy.

bands cover songs they love. My band did a version of diane that was sort of a melted monstrosity of the original HD one and a couple of different ones by Therapy? The original had crapass production and engineering, but still we love it, right? Husker Du wasn't above covers, either, they did 8 miles high ...
