I saw them back in Jersey, loooooong time ago in a Theatre that was Legen (wait for it....) DARY where I grew up. They were AMAZING!! saw original band and then after the untimely demise of half of their band, saw the "newer" version. they kicked butt both times!! In my top 5 bands always.
How could anyone dislike this video? Here are 5 middle aged musicians demonstrating supreme musicianship, singing about some of the problems faced by millions of middle aged folks. Let me see the Bieber, Gaga, and Perry play their tripe in 30 years. It would be as bad as it would be irrelevant!
Good tune, but I miss the raw, unpolished, kick-ass original line-up. It's like two totally different sounds. Same with the Heart of today and the Heart of yesteryear.
I completely agree with IdahoAngler. This performance seems a bit flat but it's such a good song that I'm just glad to see them play it! My mom & I went to a Pretenders show here in Seattle a couple of years back --we loved it.
When you first hear this back in the day you think it's ok. Not really knowing. Then time (The avenger) goes by and you hear the music today. Then you really looking back and KNOW just how dam good it was (is). So KEEP looking forward in reverse.
Robbie Macintosh plays the best lead guitar on this song period as on the 3rd album "Learning to crawl", Adam Seymour (above) is very capable but too restrained in this concert. Check out the pretenders 977radio website for the live concerts between 1983 - 1987 when Robbie was in the band.
@k3304 yeah that is Martin Chambers on the drums...guess Time the Avenger got em!! But he rox on the drums! Not sure who the dude is with the sunglasses are. Robbie (sorry, can't remember his last name..M something or other) who toured with them after the sad demise of the deaths in the band.
@BrennaK6 , Chambers buffed up, which is cool. That dude with the sunglasses makes the band. Chrissy was more slinky and sexy in the 80's. She's coming off now as butch. Don't get me wrong==i love Chrissy ! She proclaimed some of the most bombastic lyrics of the 80's, bar none esp for chicks. It's a shame that era is over. She's a great songwriter. I love that powty look she gave on the Learning To Crawl album. Like, look at me, im a rock star. Who can deny that ?
@BrennaK6 adam seymour is the guitarist he must have been with them a good 10 years like on the cds loose screw and viva el amor and he cowrote songs with chrissie
Saw them on their first US tour. They played the gym at UCSD and were AWESOME! Played that first LP until it nearly wore out.
Love this song too, and can really appreciate it now at 50.
