God has blessed the Shiloh Baptist Church with the leadership of the Senior Pastor The Reverend Dr. Wallace Charles Smith and his lovely wife Elaine. I am proud that he has a Tennessee connection. I visited there on Sunday for the morning service. BTW Ms. Marian Wright Edelman, President of the CDF is a member there.
Exactly! How many black churches have hymn books in them, or a choir, organist or director that have the wherewithal to minister them? The hymn and the anthem, sadly are a dying breed in the black church. But they are the pure Word of God. If you've ever been to a GMWA Convention, it is the anthem of hymn that will slay them!
Amen. And the words are so deep. READ the verses in "Come Ye, Disconsolate" or "We Gather Together." "We Gather Together" is also on my channel, and I have included the original words (We call to extol thee, our leader in battle...) I have argued that in eliminating the more formal and traditional hymns and anthems, and in avoiding refinement and dignity, we grow sloppy in our approach to God, and our personal lives become sloppy in turn. We need a return to tradition, I argue.
I know that's right. In 2005, I attended the convocation for the United Pentecostal Churches of Christ in Chicago and song that had the people running, shouting, dancing and falling out was the hymn "Glory to His Name", aka "Down at the Cross, where my Savior died". We ahould never forget those songs.
thank you, and Amen. I agree, there is nothing more beautiful than sacred music during worship. My church in Baltimore has this type of service also. Negro spirituals, anthems and the great hymns are all part of our Sunday worship services.

Great to hear this kind of music in black churches, rahter than goofy pop/R&B songs about how cool Jesus is....
