Saw this with Quast as Javert in 1990 in NYC. (And Debbie Byrne as Fantine). Amazing ensemble cast that night-was an amazing show.

@RaincloudmusicTFS6 Quast and Byrne never did the show on Broadway. They did, however, appear in the Australian productions and Quast also did it in London.

@jadem1122 , I know you're sort of kidding, but I see it totally differently. She is accused of sleeping around, in which case, her motivation would have been pleasure, etc. However, she is forced to have sex with strangers for money, so that she can support her child. Big difference, in my opinion.

Just, she never gets accused of being a prostitute. She gets accused of sleeping around.

FYI, "sleeping around" didn't have quite the modern connotation then. It was used mostly as a euphmism for prostitution.

@jadem1122 Fantine's been sacked by the town's biggest employer, no one will hire her now. To support Cosette, she sells her jewelry, her hair, in the book a couple of teeth, and finally sells herself. She puts Cosette before her virtue and her life. She's a mom. ("...sleeping around" is just a a more poetic way to say "prostitute.")

Lauren Kennedy is not only one of the best singer-actresses working, but one of the kindest, most genuine souls in this or any other business. Thank you for capturing this on film and allowing me to relive it. I met her the first time after seeing her performance in this role, on February 14, 2003 (opposite Terry Mann, no less).
