  • marciano and dempsey=the two best champs ever.

  • That is one of the greatest things I've ever seen.

  • done him

  • Boxing limitations is what makes it great...you can't just go for a take down or kick. So you gotta bob, weave, counter, lead, use footwork, etc etc

I like MMA but as beautiful and skillfull bjj cab be (especially with the counters on the ground within seconds of each other) it still says a lot that all people really wanna see is a good old KO!

  • this entire page is mma chatter, why is that?this is a boxing area, mma is an unartful bore.its valid, its unique, its warrior like, worthy, but its not boxing.lets talk boxing!

  • did he died?felt a bit sorry for the other guy,bet he wished he had bcome a carpenter os something.still, bet he liked driving about in the latest banger and showing off the flashy sundial on his wrist,it was all going so well..until then

  • Hajime No Ippo brought me here!

  • So yeah, fighting has evolved. Knowledge is power and that knowledge is available to you. Don't choose to ignore it. These great boxers throughout history and the ones today were and are some of the biggest asskickers of their time. But still, boxing needs to be slightly altered to apply it to "street fighting", hence "dirty boxing". I respect both boxing and MMA but MMA certainly has the probability and likelihood of prevailing if the two ever clash in a fight.

  • MMA is not a rival to boxing. Think of it as expanded boxing. All boxers can do is punch and use footwork and head movement that is adapted to fighting someone else who can only punch. Boxing is by far the best art when it comes to punching...and only punching.

Unless you expect to knock your potential opponent out with one punch (how many times has that happened in boxing?) the fight will very likely go to a clinch (if your opponent knows what he's doing at least) and ultimately the ground.

  • jess willard died after that..

  • lol @ the added sound effects.

  • incradibile il coraggio di questi uomini..combattevano per oltre 20 round con guanti riempiti di crine di cavallo..praticamente a mani nude!

  • the dubbed punches sound like lots of car doors being slammed

  • lool they didn't even wait for the standing eight or go to a neutral corner back then.

  • Why do these videos always end up with boxing fans arguing against MMA? It's fucking stupid.

  • Now that's what you call a fuckin' beatdown!

  • Fucking stop the fight Jesus the ref is dumb

  • Stop with the MMa vs Boxing.. tired of it...

  • i wish i had that kind of skill and MAN power

    R.I.P jack dempsey

  • Willard took a brutal beating: broken jaw, shattered ribs. By the end of the fight, he was a walking mess! His corner should have thrown in the towel.

  • Dempsey would virtually annihilate many boxers at any period, as he coupled with Joe Louis were the best of the greats; stated by one who saw them all, Ray Arcel. UFC clowns & MMA, the same clowns, would not even, in the ring or out, make a good sparring partner, let alone a fight.

  • I would like to see Dempsey vs. the Klitschko brothers. :)

  • Jack Dempsey PLEASE send some of your sweetness to David Haye tommorow

  • real fighthers respect both mma and boxing only fat ass american beer drinkers argue over which ones better ... fags

  • Look, this clip has nothing to do with whether or not MMA is better than boxing, of all the stupid pointless arguments...this is about the fact that Dempsey defeated Willard and beat the shit out of him so bad they had to make new rules in the boxing world. so why don't people stop with their little facts and stats and just the damn clip.

  • Top 5 fighter, no question. He'd tear Klitschko a new one.

  • Fucking brutal. This should have been stopped.

  • Willard lost against gangsterism !!!

  • I guess the neutral corner rule was not in effect until much later. I can see the benefit of it watching Dempsey just stand over the guy and maul him again and again before the poor guy gets a chance to set himself after each knockdown.

  • God damn that Willard guy is pretty lucky dempsey didn't fuckin kill em

  • mma is shit its just two people hugging

  • Please, stop talking mma on boxing videos, it has nothing to do with boxing...

  • How many knockouts do you think Dempsey would have got fighting under today's rules of neutral corners and standing 8-counts?

  • @SmLXXX if you mixed fighters from each sport with the opposite sport the one who knows the game better would obviously win. In other words if you put a ufc/mma fighter in a boxing ring where he has no ground game, grappling, or kicking it's a big chance he'll lose. If you put a boxer in a MMA ring he will lose a well. James Tony is a good example for that

  • @eprado91 No, James Toney is not a good example of that.

In 2010 for the Couture fight, Boxrec rated Toney #34 at Heavyweight. He was finished as a boxer.

Way back in In 1993, James Toney rated #3 on the P4P list and would have been more than capable of whupping Royce Gracie's ass at UFC 1, but there was no money in UFC in 1993, .... and there's still very little money in UFC nowadays though James Toney did get the highest purse on that show, but the IRS seized the dummy's whole purse.

  • @bradlee180 James Toney would have been dominated back in his prime if he were to fight with MMA rules. Good luck with all that sweet bobbing and weaving when you get dumped on your ass from a good wrestler.

  • @bradlee180 Well Royce Gracie did fight a boxer and defeated him , Randy couture was not at his best ether and he was older than J.Tony and won, so J.Tony being done with boxing is no excuse bc no successfull boxer will enter an MMA ring with Tony's views without learning the other aspect of MMA ,there is MMA fighters that had boxing experience but they re not necesserly the best .

  • @bradlee180

To be fair, Couture was years older than Toney and also past his prime.

  • @bradlee180 It pains me to say this, as a huge boxing fan, but you're very much wrong, someone who has no ground game is toast in MMA, lights out would have been submitted by Gracie, and this is coming from a big boxing fan, there are other aspects necessary to succeed in MMA, aspects boxers need time to pick up, and if they pick them up, they'll be martial artists, as opposed to boxers, defeating the purpose of showing MMA boxing is stronger.

  • @bradlee180 in 1993 he still had zero awareness of the takedown, Fight ends in under a minute with Royce winning via rear naked choke.

  • @eprado91 not really boxer can also kick mma fighters ass if he lands the bomb check out "Merciless" Ray Mercer vs Tim Sylvia

  • @eprado91 Please, James Tony was hella old and washed up, bad example, lol.

  • @eprado9 I saw Ray Mercer fight Caine. He lost but he did ok. Mercer was a decent heavyweight boxer 15-20 years ago. A boxer can learn to fight MMA. How well is the question. In a pure boxing match I would pick the boxer nearly every time but then I have seen some MMA fighters that were pretty scary punchers. As a former boxer myself. I think I could never adapt to the extra weapons MMA fighters have IE feet..knees..But then I was never a world class athelete.

  • Jack Dempsey would kill everyone!

  • Rocky Marcianos got something for Jack Dempsey

  • ufc sucks shit faggots hugging each other in which they call "grappling" -.- bullshit anyone would tap out from grappling fuck that shit boxing is the real thing a prime mike tyson wouldn't even need this gay hugging shit to stay on top of UFC if he was in his prime today, hed knock their faggot asses out cold

  • @CardingSungkitErmita you are completely naive. I am a huge boxing fan but you got to be stupid to believe that a boxer with zero take down defense, zero submission defense zero grappling training would survive in a mma rule fight with a grappler. How would he possible stop the take down even with some training, against someone who wrestled in high school and college?

  • @SmLXXX LOL have you ever seen mike tyson in his prime prior to the douglas bout? watch his "5 hit unreal combo" vid on youtube, tell me he wont knockout any of the biggest names in UFC, his punches sound like an ak 47 LOL no way any of lesnar/mir/couture/silva/ortiz would KO a 85~87' version of mike tyson

  • @CardingSungkitErmita .....Tyson would get taken down with an ankle pick and then put to sleep. So anyone who grapples is a faggot? If you were in a street fight, do you just stand and trade punches with a guy, or would you utilize everything you possibly could to win? MMA is a similar scenario and grappling is a huge aspect of mma or street fighting.

    p.s. Eat shit douchebag

  • @michaeldog were talking about in ring fight, not street fight, yeah sure anyone can beat tyson in a street fight but in ring? hed only lose via submission..ufc fags relying on grappling -.- ufcs good in the 1st mins of the match when they hit each other but after that its all hugging -.-

  • @michaeldog

Have you seen mercer vs silva?

  • Ouch!

  • This is rediculous

  • Jess Willard was a bum.Jack Dempsey took advantage of it. Oh another thing Dempsey look like and fought like street fighter in this fight.Don't fuck with Dempsey in a bar on a Saturday nite.lol

  • RE: "Jess Willard was a bum."

Jess Willard beat Jack Johnson's ass, and Jack Johnson is one of the Greatest Heavyweight Champs in history.

That's right, Big Jess Willard did whup Jack Johnson's ass !.

  • @bradlee180 Yea that bum call Jess Willard beat a old over the weight pass his prime Jack Johnson.Johnson was winning and he let Willard hit him on the jaw and Johnson went down.Lucky Willard couldn't with all that power behind that punch knock out yea I said KNOCK OUT Johnson. If he did Johnson would not have cover his eyes from the sun.Jess Willard is phoney white hope and Dempsey prove that in 1919.

  • @PREZ150 I dunno how old Johnson was, but he got his ass whupped !

  • @bradlee180 Yea It took 26 rounds for a bum like Jess Willard to get lucky because a 37 year old Johnson let him.Johnson never took a beating in that fight. You want to know of a whupping.Look what a young Dempsey did to Willard now that was ass whupping

  • @PREZ150 A man who can fight 26 rds at 105 degrees in Cuba ain't no bum (40 Celsius). Scheduled for 45 rds.

Jack Johnson squandered his money and made up that "threw the fight" story just to sell it for a few bucks.

Vitali Klitschko is a current top Heavy who is the same size as Willard and fights EXACTLY the same... except he doesn't have Heart like Willard.

Vitali quit over a sore shoulder against powder-puff Chris Byrd, but Willard kept getting up against ferocious puncher Dempsey.

  • @bradlee180 Yea Jack Johnson was no bum he was 37 pass his prime and fought to 26 rounds (40 Celsius). Scheduled for 45 rds..That bum Willard beated Johnson who was just a shell of his former self. And a cost Johnson let Willard have it in the end 26 rds.Jack Johnson squandered his money maybe but he wanted to also come back to United States after year's of being exile a few year's to see his dieing mother. He agreed to throw the fight to come home.

  • @PREZ150 It's really too bad that crooked Jack Johnson drew the color line after winning the Title and wouldn't fight his best challengers just because they were black: ie Sam McVey, Joe Jeannette, and Sam Langford.

He fought them before winning the Title and wanted no more part of them, preferring to defend against 5'9" 154 lb middleweight Ketchel instead ... and that fight wasn't on the level either.

Yep, Johnson got his opportunity at a Title-shot, and deprived other blacks of their shot.

  • holy balls!!! i just found out that Jack Dempsey is my friends great great grandfather. whoa.

  • " Nonpareil" Jack Dempsey a.k.a John Edward Kelly, was an Irish Champion who lived in Co.Kildare Ireland, who the Jack Dempsey here in this video took his name from, little bit of knowledge for you all, It's Great that most of the Heavyweight Champs of the past were Irish/Americans, I'm Irish and Proud

  • Loved boxing in those days. Now, boxing just blows goats for quarters. Who watches boxing anymore when we have UFC and Strikeforce???

  • @WildlifeSeriaLKiller Lots of people still watch Boxing; that's why some elite boxers get $20 million per fight compared to $150 thousand per fight at the top in UFC.

In 2009, UFC had a total of 215 professional fights.

In 2009, Boxing had a total of over 20 000 professional fights. (courtesy Boxrec).

Boxing has 215 pro fights each and every weekend.

Pacquiao was on the cover of TIME Magazine.

UFC and MMA is big in the USA, but worldwide, it's an ant compared to the elephant that is Boxing.

  • @bradlee180 Wow. Thanks for the info. I like boxing, but I can't tell you the most recent fight I've watched. I don't even know who the heavyweight champ is these days. Seems like it changes a lot. I just figure action- wise, I would rather watch UFC. 215 fights a weekend seems like a lot to keep track of. Not to mention that boxing has been around much longer. I like MMA because it's so much more diverse.

  • @WildlifeSeriaLKiller Yep, no disrespect intended to you nor to the sport of MMA. This ol' fight-fan here was a fan of MMA right from the beginning in 1993, and Boxing for probably 15 years before that.

It's just that I prefer truth and logic to swallowing White's propaganda hook, line, and sinker.

If you do want to see action-packed entertaining boxers, watch Manny PacMan Pacquiao, Sergio Da Sex Martinez, Miguel Cotto, Saul Alvarez, and David Hayemaker Haye,

  • @bradlee180 ok, you had me until "white's propaganda". Dana white ain't no fighter, he just employs the guys that do. And I would venture to guess that any boxer that stepped in with , let's say, Junior Dos Santos, would have their ass handed to them on a silver, beaten platter. THAT'S why I like UFC and MMA. Hell, Cyborg of Strikeforce would beat the crap out of a LOT of male boxers and she's a female. Ever seen her fight... good gravy... she can hit.

  • @WildlifeSeriaLKiller to quote you "i don"t even know who the heavyweight champ is these days, seems like it changes alot!" really? the Klitschko brothers have pretty much been on top for last 10yrs!

  • @dan32113 lol. Never heard of them. Thanks.

  • @bradlee180 Was that 215 professional fights just for the UFC in 2009 or is this including every professional MMA organisation? And are you including all boxing organisations in the statistics of fights per 2009?

  • @bradlee180 Yes...but if you compare the #30 ranked pound for pound fighter in boxing and compare it to that of MMA, the MMA guy gets paid better. Look at the statistics when it comes to the pay scale....the average boxer gets paid shit compared to the average MMA fighter. You are accurate when it comes to the top or cream of the crop in boxing, they are paid substantially higher than the top MMA guys.

  • @michaeldog The average boxer actually gets paid more at every level. The 30th ranked boxer is Nonito Donaire who recieved a purse of $350,000 for his last fight and wants 1 million for his next fight. Highest paid MMA is Brock at 500k. So there you go. Are you going to admit you're wrong now? What am I saying? Of course you won't.

  • @bradlee180 MMA is a growing sport, and boxing is crumbling. One big reason happens to be fixed fights.. also, there are no more Mike Tyson's coming out of boxing, because they're all going to MMA.

  • @p4ul1z yh mma is growing it will be very big in probabli 10 years but it hasnt got the history to be better than boxing !!!! and theres no more mike tysons in boxing or the ufc !!! the HWS in ufc hav wat 4 0z gloves on n still find it hard for the 1 punch ko ??? mma is hardly a sport u use anything that ur body can do 2 knock the other man out !!! boxing u use just ur hands SO IF U CAN NOT PUNCH U HAVE TO TRY MMA !!!!!!!!! MMA IS JUST BOXING REJECTS tht couldnt box so they found mma

  • @wereareyoumarn lol "MMA is hardly a sport". You try entering the octagon and see how easy it is to knock your opponent out. 1. Boxing is corrupted 2. We don't see the boxing fights we all want to see (Mayweather vs Pacquiao). Mayweather keeps talking shit but pussies out of the fight. The "big fight" Mayweather vs De La Hoya happened to be shit. 3. Boxing has become a European sport. Back in the day foreigners didn't win shit. Today all the quality athletes go to sports such as MMA...

  • @wereareyoumarn There are no "big" fighters coming out of boxing after pacquiao, klitschko's and gayweather retire. In MMA there are fighters like Jon Jones coming up.

  • @p4ul1z u jus dodged everifin i just said !!!!!! theres allways sum 1 to take place and are mayb evemn millions of young fighters coming up in boxing !!! mma is 4 boxing rejects !! u wil never get upcomin fighters in mma because its not a sport where u cn be the best at because of so many styles its not a sport its just brutal fighting in a cage theres no skill u use anyfin u can 2 knok out ur opponent !!!! N U JUS NAMED 4 BIG KNOWN BOXERS 2 1 UFC FIGHTER SOOO

  • fucking love jack dempsey...so ferocious

  • The old boxing gloves were only 6 ounce and filled with horse hair. also, non chambered, so filling could be pushed away from knuckles. These guy were damn tough!

  • @Buzztooth ya but plus n minusus to that, they would b faster but heavier gloves today mean more chance of a knockout when u land

  • and people complain that mma is brutal?

  • I would love to see dempsey vs Louis, that wuld be a great slugfest.

  • more like a street fight than boxing match.

  • In those days mutha fuckers were savagely beaten into submission. Jesus Christ boxing was fuckin brutal.

  • What the fuck was wrong with people back then? Dempsey stood behind him, waiting for him to get back to his feet only to kidney punch him and lay him out again. I call this type of fighting being less than a man.

  • @spankysteez, there was no neautral corner rule back then, and no standing eight count either. Seems barbaric now, but everything Dempsey did in this fight was within the rules at that time, and he certainly wasn't the only one.

  • @spankysteez those were the rules then. both knees off ground? punch away. Dempsey actually LOST a fight when the rules changed. The ref did not start the count right away because Dempsey didn't go to a neutral corner right away. Tunney got up by the "count of nine" which was in reality somewhere between 13 and 19.

  • @spankysteez Call it what you like but those were the rules. It's called being smart. Using the rules as they

existed at that time. Fighters then as now, must take advantage of their opportunities to do damage as they

can within the rules of the game because his opponent would do the same. As for Dempsey, he was truly "a man"

  • just watch Mike Tyson Documentary ! ..what he say in that celebr quote " i`m Sonny Liston, i`m Jack Dempsey ..that was the point..he has a little bit from every big fighter. i also like dempsey ..this is the reason why im here ..marciano,liston, frazier, paterson, ali ..the golden era..

  • this is very close to street fighting ..a very ugly boxing. Dempsey throw his punch from 2 m..if it was Klitcho there i bet Jack would`t rezist 1 round

  • crude as it is,the film captures the impact shock of jacks punches.watch carefully as he DRIVES a 240lbs man around with punchin power.he is literally plowed around by shots.quite awsome.

  • this is miky tysons favorite fighter

  • They wouldn't last 2 seconds against Cody McKenzie

  • @0TedMaul0 LOL you do realize there is a difference between MMA and Boxing correct?? Also Jack Dempsey mastered the left Jolt punch, which NOONE has the balls to use today, in a boxing match Jack Dempsey would murder that man. Also in retrospect to give you "some" credit in an MMA match Mckenzie may beat Dempsey. That doesnt change the ignorance in your comment watching a boxing clip and bringing in a MMA fighter lolz

  • is this real??

  • dempsey is 10% of mike tyson whitout any doubts

  • @razva81 tyson would disagree with you...."without any doubts"

  • @dempsey981 i see your a Dempsey fan but Tyson sez that he take and have qualitys from every big boxer and from JAck he take only ferocity. A complex boxer don`t have just a quality.(in a big developed way)

  • @razva81 well im not sure where your info comes from, but, tyson took MORE THAN just ferocity from Jack.let me list some things for you.1..The bob and weave,2.the attack swarm style,3.inside signature shovel hooks to the head.4.his early haircut style[close on sides but not top]5.the black shoes and no socks[very dempsey.i could go on but i wont]..Tyson openely admitted that he admired Dempsey.

  • @dempsey981

Yes tyson always came in the ring with only a towel and no nonsense. He wanted to emulate the old warriors of pugilism. Tyson retired.....boxing died. He was awesome

  • @kingfbi yea thats about right.i mean see comments here that state mike could not fight,or that mike wasnt a good fighter.i have no idea where these notions come from.young, stable mike tyson was imo, nearly a perfect fightin machine,he was...ferocious in a skilled, and scary way.

  • @dempsey981

Lol, the people who say mike couldnt fight are the very same people who rushed home from work to watch him fight in his heyday. But now hes retired and been beat, those once loyal fans now abandon him. They move on to the next champ and once hes down, they will abandon him too. These people have no loyalty and no courage. They just jump on bandwagons.

Saying mike couldnt fight is almost as ludicrous as saying a lion is harmless.

  • @kingfbi yea,i take severe criticism of mike as a definite signal that who evers doin it doesnt know much about boxing.if u cant see young mikes extreme talent then you simply dont know boxing thats all.its really that simple,i mean any dumb ass can post here, there are no admission requirements.

  • dempsey was quite abit heavier than 180 but still he shows great leverage and power

  • @allbusiness1985 well actually in this fight he was not heavier than 180,ive actually read lower weight accounts than that for this fight.if you study the photos,he only looked this light again with the miske fight,in 1920 i believe,of course later he fought at 188-190lbs APPROXIMATELY.Dempsey pretty much stayed in year round good condition,as he wished to be close to fight ready"just in case".i read that once he went up to 225 between fights, and ive seen photo's that support this.ANIMAL!!

  • Jack dempsey redefined pain right here.

  • Dempsey is Fucken Crazy!

  • Can you even Imagine going up against a beast like him? I certanly can't see me in there, or if i were in there i would just run and try to avoid him.

  • Why does he keep getting up? It'd be one thing if he actually had a shot, but seriously...must be a masochist or something.

  • 0:03 ippo did the dempsey roll better

  • @kidax123 im guessing your new to the whole fighting business

  • @kidax123

    Ippo was an anime.

  • @kidax123 ippo is a fictional character so i'll take Jack Dempsey over ippo anytime anyday

  • @MRPric3LEss Who is Ippo?

  • @mootle661 HES FROM AN ANIME HAJIME NO IPPO

  • If this fight was held currently, the referee would have stopped the fight long much much earlier. Watching this demolition, thankfully that's the rule now, several unanswered punches and the fight's over.

  • hahahahahahha this is brutal.. d@mn, if this rule will apply on pacquiao vs mayweather, i wonder how mayweather look like after the fight..

  • LOL lovin the punching sound effects

  • 2 words " fuk me"

  • now that's fucking boxing :D

  • 1920s hero right there .. one of the kings of the golden age of sports.. manassa mauler

  • This video is very entertaining with Scott Joplin's "The Entertainer" playing in the background

  • haha, no neutral corner rule

  • years ago, they did an experiment with Cleveland Williams (before he was beaten by Ali) using the exact same formula for Plaster Paris as was reported. When Clev started hitting the heavy bag after letting it dry...the 'cement' crumbled. It was concluded that the Plaster Paris story was baloney!

Notice how they didn't have to go to a neutral corner on a knockdown.

  • are those BOOMPS for real or overdubbed

Dempsy didnt know his gloves were loaded with plaster of paris

  • @TEMPmichaelhansen

If you read roger Kahn's biography of dempsey "A Flame of Pure Fire" there are pictures of dempsey getting into the ring and its very clear that there is no plaster on his wraps

  • @TEMPmichaelhansen dubbed..they didnt have sound for fights back then

  • it was like being hit with chunks of cement

wikipedia talks about it but more comprehensive story is in the book THE NOT SO GREAT MOMENTS IN SPORTS by brane & stravinsky.

  • There was no plaster of paris. That is a myth. The tape on Dempsey's hands was cut in front of reporters. If it was really cement do you think they could have cut it with scissors? Don't you think the reporters would have noticed? One of Willard's friends, Monaghan was in Dempsey's room when his hands were taped. And as was said before, the Book of Flame of Pure Fire shows Dempsey's taped hands with no cement. Sorry, but you're wrong about the Plaster of Paris. It's a giant myth.

  • @Rockyfan10060

that has been proven after all this time, bu look at my comments and you will get a good chuckle out of that book that I pointed out. read the book has a great photo. but i noticed that all these people say it, and it takes many many years for the truth to come out. plaster of paris cant crumble. but dempsy was involved in 3 "scandalls", the rumors about this, leaving the city without taking a shower (another time), and the long count.

  • Jess was one big, strong, courageous man with 25 round endurance. For Jack to manhandle him like this shows how strong Dempsey was. The fighters today cant compare to Jack and his era.

  • I think Willard is kind of underrated don't you think? I think people see this fight and think Willard sucks, but Willard had to be good to have beaten Jack Johnson. Whether Jack Johnson was old or not isn't as important. He was still champion.

  • @Rockyfan10060 -Yes I think Jess was underated and underappreciated. Any man that can go 26 rounds and stop even an old Johnson had to be a decent fighter. Willards fight with Floyd Johnson when he was 43 was quite impressive to me. What would the Klitchko bros. do with Jess ? Could they go 26 rounds?

  • Guess they didn't exactly order the unfallen fighter into the neutral corner back then! LOL

  • @pnutbutrncrackers There was no neutral corner rule. Or standing 8 count.

  • @LordBizarre112233

    My point exactly.

  • Seven knockdowns!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Six knockdowns in a row!!!! Absolute classic!!!!!!!!!

  • Most boxers today aren't half as durable as boxers those days and sure aren't half as tough...

  • this is better thn mma.way before mma .bring this back.

  • @mow1717 Yeah, mma is lame. Boxing is the real man's sport. It's just that they need to find a way to do something about concussions and those serious brain injuries. But boxing is a pure, fighting sport not like two guys grapping like a bunch of homos.

  • jack dempsey is ferocious like tyson and marciano

  • who won?

  • Dempsey. Wilalrd couldn't leave his corner for the 4th round. He had a smashed nose, missing teeth, broken ribs, a closed right eye, a broken jaw, and 13 of his cheek bones were broken. Hearing in his left ear was also permanently impaired.

  • No neutral corner rule in 1919..as soon as your opponents gloves left the canvas..he was fair game...

  • DEMPSEY ROLL!

  • DEMPSEY ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLL!

  • its obvious that the enemy cannot fight... why the hell the referee not stopping the fight????????

  • Because this was 1919. The rules were far different and people far less sympathetic. People were actually calling Willard a coward when he quit on his stool in the third round, despite the terrific beating he withstood to cointinue getting up. He couldn't fight anymore, and it's undertsandable because of the punishment Jack gave him, but people expected Wilalrd, Heavyweight Champion, to die before giving up.

  • @Rockyfan10060 dude thanks for the info.. oh my god boxing is very brutal back then..

  • Yeah. It was a different world back then. Especially with boxing.

  • Comment removed

  • @Rockyfan10060 - Good list! Corbett and Langford are virtually unknown to todays "fans" but were both great fighters.

  • Thanks. I especially like Corbett for some reason. He's been called the Father of American boxing and was certainly an innovator of speed and the jab before Muhammad Ali, Larry Holmes and the like.

  • @Rockyfan10060 - Corbetts fight with Choynski showed that he was more than a fancy Dan. I also have Sullivan, P.Jackson, T. Sharkey, Jeanette, and S. Mckvey in my top 20. These guys would go thru these bums today like a hot knife thru butter.

  • I wish I had films of that 61 round fiught with Corbett and Peter Jackson. From what I read it sounds like an amazing, brutal fight!

  • This would have happened late 60s, early seventies. Two punk would be muggers decided they'd clobber this little old man in NYC and take his wallet. Said pensioner turned out to be Jack Dempsey. He threw two punches, and two only. Result? Two punks in hospital, at least one with a broken jaw. Not bad for a man in his 70s.

  • @madmax8903 True, they refused to get up cause they didn't want to be hit again.

  • Rather sickening.

  • wtf lol are they really allowed to hit them when their still getting up xD

  • definitely right handed

  • O god that was amazing

  • Hats off to Willard. He wouldn't go down, would he?

  • @jargainjones i pity you for thinking so

  • @bradlee180 thanks for that data of a 180 pounder dukin it out with a 245 pounder, and not just any 245 lb man ,but the champion boxer of the time. That was very useful to learn and to recognize. Thanx also for posting a dam good smack down, lol. That's what I call a fight, David vs. Goliath
