time to plant ganja out there in france...fuck police till end..cultivate marijuana everytime, for money and smoking...the Sun is a real wonder, moan, i ll always respect the creator of universe for his power... a sun for day, a moon for night, perfect...aahhaaaahhhhhh!!!
Poison Flour- Begins with Alimantado uttering something totally gibberish and you can hear "poison flour" in there somewhere when all of the sudden this totally awesome bass rhythm kicks in and while you're in a state of shock and Alimantado kicks back in with some lyrics about "poison flower" followed by a strange chorus: "in my neighborhood" and "bang against the wall," and this pretty much continues on like this but you cannot really tell what he's saying but who cares it's awesome. 5/5
@tubatosor the track underneath is "A Quiet Place" by John Holt and Horace Andy, a big hit back then. Andy cut his vocal over Holt's original track. there's a man that live next door in my neighborhood and hear the pots and pans, they fall bang! against the wall bang! against the wall no rest at all.. it's not hard at all to hear what's being said if you pay attention. "is a wonder dem nuh say dread have something to do with the poison flour, eeh?" "yunno, all de while dem blame.."
This songs plays with double sense of flour/flower. It refers to an incident where jamaican government poisoned rasta flour to eat, but flour is white. And every hour and the hour some one dies by poison flour. The song is refering to cocaine.
BS. the song is about the poison flour incident that happened in early 1976 (i was living in JA when it happened). cocaine had not yet come to JA in any quantity, and people certainly were not dying/killed over it. ....yet.
*if* it's true at all, the flour was supposedly poisoned by some entity opposed to the government at the time (JLP? CIA?). there was a lot of politically inspired mayhem at the time, it was an election year. but it could also have been carelessness.
it was island wide, if i remember (happened when i was a kid) something like 14 or more people died and a bunch of people got very sick. it was quite a sensation at the time, as you might imagine. there was the popular opinion that it was intentional - the flour was tainted with insecticide, and at that time there was a documented CIA campaign running in high gear in Jamaica to discredit the Manley government. but there's no way of knowing now what the real story was..
This is THE TUNE that got me in to reggae... and today of all days I am happier than ever because a copy of this album on vinyl showed up at my door today after 3/4 years of searching... almost brings a tear to my eye... well, not quite but you get the idea!
Sorry, for the negative comment - it just really pisses me off when they say this reminds them of Bob... No disrespect to him - what he did for the scene was amazing - I just think tunes like this just beat his hands down... wouldn't say they were at all similar either 'cos in that respect all reggae would sound the same, seen?
I swear the term 'Poison Flour' is another word for cocaine? Forgive me if I'm incorrect.

"Poison Flour" referenced an incident when a number of local Kingstonians had been poisoned by eating bread made with contaminated flour.
