I first saw this movie when i was 5 when it first came out back in 2000.

The grinch scared the fucking crap outta me and i cried through the whole movie at one time.

One christmas time in 2002 when i was 6, I got brave and i watched half of the movie up until the "Your A Mean One... Mister Grinch" scene because my dad snored his ass off at 10 P.M.

Looking back on this film at 17, I can't believe how adult and dark some of the jokes are, I didn't understand or realise what they meant half the time when I saw it as a child, it was the delivery that made it funny and an enjoyable film to me at the time, this is truly one of those films that gets better with age, especially considering that I now have a dark sense of humour....

This is actually one of my favorite roles Jim Carrey has ever done. And I'm not usually a fan of this genre. It could be I have even more respect for him for having to deal with the restriction of the costume & make-up. (It took 3 hours to put on!) But he's still animated & energetic all while giving this character depth. Not many actors could be so entertaining & still make you feel a connection to the character. He does have humanity in him. Why else would he think about solving world hunger?

@skadiyoko Haha! That's true. However he did save Cindy Lou. (At the insistance of Max) If he truly wanted he could have just left without ever looking back. I know it's a family comedy and all. But this character does have several deep rooted issues. Obviously the jokes cover up his anguish. Yet despite his anger & sadness, he does have compassion. As it says in the story, "his heart is three sizes too small." But at least he has a heart. I doubt the Mayor did.
