The brain-computer interface would use a noninvasive brain imaging technology like electroencephalography to let people communicate thoughts to each other. For example, a soldier would “think” a message to be transmitted and a computer-based speech recognition system would decode the EEG signals. The decoded thoughts, in essence translated brain waves, are transmitted using a system that points in the direction of the intended target.

apsolutely mindboggling--in high school 4 years ago I scripted the first 30 or so pages of a script for a movie of the same name--very similar plotline involving multiple people traveling inside eachothers' minds. i came across this movie on TV one night --it was mindblowingly paralleled to the one I was working on, and made me want to take a second look at it. carry the torch of subconscious-exploring psychological thrillers...may have to change the name though.
@DavidProductions - Change the name only if you want to, because titles of films, plays, books, etc. aren't protected by copyrights. So I'd say if you like the name go with it. Since the original is nearly 30 years old and not well known (wasn't even that well known when it was released, grossing less than it cost to make it) your 'Brainstorm' will be the first that many people ever heard of, particularly those in the 18-35 demographic, who make up the majority of film-goers.
@Galantski I really appreciate your feedback, and film school is going very well. I think I will take your advice and plan this as a first movie--it is designed as a story to be done with a very tight budget, and the characters live in me still. Thank you for taking the time to give me a framework of the legality/original film reception. My best.
SnakeKong, that's so not funny, man. wanna make jokes? go do stand-up comedy. What happened to Natalie Wood was absolutely awful. Gotta problem with her? Go bash her somewhere else
