In fact, Allied troops participated at least once. It was in 1994 when the Allied troops left Berlin after the fall of the Berlin Wall their German comrades gave a Großer Zapfenstreich in front of the Brandenburg Gate together with US, British an French soldiers
@jolorulz There is only the purpose of a few hundret years old military ceremony. The ceremone can only received or horrnored to Presidents, Chacelor or Governers. The whole Großer Zapfenstreich procedere is the highest nhighest military hounour that someone can receive in Germany. Just check Wiki for Zapfenstreich and for further informations.

Aber die Bauweise usw. ist immer noch die selbe. Das einzige was die zu normalen "Kampfhelmen" unterscheidet ist das diese hier keinen Tarnbezug haben und Blank poliert sind.

The english word for Zapfenstreich is tattoo (that's means close the tap of the barrel = stop boozing go sleeping ;-) )
Zapfen = tap , Streich = strike
In former times an officer hit the tap with his sabre to indicate end of drinking. And that expression 'Zapfenstreich' was also overtaken for the trumpet and horn signals telling the soldiers to go to sleep.
So there's no difference between the english tattoo and the german Zapfenstreich, it's completely the same.

@bolle2012 The Hohenfriedberger March is a little bit to slow for marching. The feet´s and the beat are only by a very slow marching speed syncron. So the march is more for working or standing operations.
@bolle2012 here you can see how the "Königgrätzer Marsch" is performed. It´s a famous march which includes the Hohenfriedberger march. So yes, it is played in Germany but not very often because it was very often played during the third reich just like "Badenweiler" or "Helenenmarsch". All these marches are not played very often by the bundeswehr.
How come you play the Hohenfriedberger in Sweden? Its a march about the victory at the battle at hohenfriedberg (germany vs. austria 1868).

Das hat was mit links zu tun - Tradition stören zu wollen, weil sie nunmal nicht erst vor einem Tag entstanden ist und jegliche Staatsgewalt (wie die Geschlossenheit dieser Veranstaltung) zu kritisieren, das liegt doch auf der Hand. Meinetwegen sollen sie demonstrieren, aber dann soll die Polizei auch angreifen, sobald nur der leiseste Anflug und Gewalt seitens der Demonstranten losgeht.
Das Problem ist nicht, daß man dieses Zeremoniell als überholt ansehen kann, sondern daß die Demonstranten dieses Zeremoniell nicht nur stören, sondern zerstören wollten. Auch die Deutschen Streitkräfte haben das Recht, sich öffentlich darzustellen, also zu demonstrieren.
Das hat mit den Linken überhaupt nichts zu tun, sondern war und ist eine Konsequenz aus 1945. Ich finde das unpassend, wenn Rechte hier dauernd über Linke herziehen. Es geht beim Zapfenstreich um eine Huldigugn des Parlamentarismus, der Demokratie, um das Außerstreitstellen von Gemeinsamkeiten. Diese unsinnige "die bösen linken" Gezänk hat hier nichts verloren

Well, some of the symbolism in German imperial tradition go back to the Roman empire. The holy German/Roman Empire, established in the middle ages, was seen as a kind of resurrection of the ancient Roman empire.
Hitler also tried to mimic the Romans and French in his architectural plans for Berlin, planning a Great Hall (like the Pantheon in Rome) and a huge Arch of Triumph (like in Paris and Rome).
It's quite ironic that he admired non-aryan buildingstyles like that..
You are talking about the thing they carry in front of the musicians? That's a "Schellenbaum" or "Turkish Crescent/Jingling Johnnie". Originaly a standards of the Otoman Empire, they made it into european Armys after the wars against the otomans in the second half of the 17th century. In todays German Army they are the standards of the Musiccorps and are some kind of instrument themselves, because there are bells on it that sound while marching.

Aber im Video geht es um das höchste militärische Zeremoniell der Bundeswehr, und nicht um die primitive Frage, wer den Helm erfunden hat. Mein Gott.

The english word for Zapfenstreich is tattoo (that's means close the tap of the barrel = stop boozing go sleeping ;-) )
Zapfen = tap , Streich = strike
In former times an officer hit the tap with his sabre to indicate end of drinking. And that expression 'Zapfenstreich' was also overtaken for the trumpet and horn signals telling the soldiers to go to sleep.
So there's no difference between the english tattoo and the german Zapfenstreich, it's completely the same.

@Speedcore02 Das Wachbataillon beim Bundesministerium der Verteidigung wird nach dem "preussischen Exerzierreglement" ausgebildet, die sich zum Teil erheblich von der Formalausbildung unterscheiden (Formationen, Gewehrgriffe usw.)

Großer Zapfenstreich am 17.05 in Regensburg.
Ich bin dabei, das ist auch gut so, allerdings ist die Ausbildung mit den Soldaten vom Wachbataillon sehr anstrengend.

@eyederrick it the german military idom for finish with service and time to go to bed now.... in the german recruit camps in germany it means for the german recruits that they have to go to bed... but the "great zapfenstreich" is the highest military event of the german army... only great politians and great anniversarys like the 50th anniversary of the German Bundeswehr get this honour !!

@eyederrick: "Zafpenstreich" (a word noones uses today anymore) means in in old times the last call from the walls by a trumpet. It calls the soldiesr back to camp and signals to everyone: time to go to bed - lights off.

@Rick2010100 I acknowledge the historical origin of a chalk mark put on the keg to show the level at the end of the evening, but actually there is an exact translation of this modern variation: "Tattoo Ceremony". Tattoo in this case has nothing to do with getting "inked" but rather the bugle call that precedes "Taps" (lights out) in the daily order of bugle calls on an Army post. but try explaining that outside of military or militarian historical circles!

@eyederrick Taps.But this one is a cermonial tattoo. It consists of signals from the trumpet signals are cavalry origin, the drum rolls are infantry origin. Then there is played a choral and at the end our national anthem. The "Großer Zapfenstreich" is the superior military ceremony of the german army. It is forbidden, to play more than 1 "Großer Zapfenstreich" at the same place in a year and must be allowed by a division commander. For the guard batallion there are different rules.

The Germans can this things very good. I think they have it in there blood maby. Anyway it´s very good performance from the Bundeswehre. I missing a very good German marsch as the Hohenfriedberger marsch. I can hear it in Sweden when the Swedish army play it. I haven´t heard it in Germany???Way not? Greetings from Sweden////

@bolle2012 The Hohenfriedberger March is a little bit to slow for marching. The feet´s and the beat are only by a very slow marching speed syncron. So the march is more for working or standing operations.

@bolle2012 here you can see how the "Königgrätzer Marsch" is performed. It´s a famous march which includes the Hohenfriedberger march. So yes, it is played in Germany but not very often because it was very often played during the third reich just like "Badenweiler" or "Helenenmarsch". All these marches are not played very often by the bundeswehr.
How come you play the Hohenfriedberger in Sweden? Its a march about the victory at the battle at hohenfriedberg (germany vs. austria 1868).

Das hat was mit links zu tun - Tradition stören zu wollen, weil sie nunmal nicht erst vor einem Tag entstanden ist und jegliche Staatsgewalt (wie die Geschlossenheit dieser Veranstaltung) zu kritisieren, das liegt doch auf der Hand. Meinetwegen sollen sie demonstrieren, aber dann soll die Polizei auch angreifen, sobald nur der leiseste Anflug und Gewalt seitens der Demonstranten losgeht.

Das Problem ist nicht, daß man dieses Zeremoniell als überholt ansehen kann, sondern daß die Demonstranten dieses Zeremoniell nicht nur stören, sondern zerstören wollten. Auch die Deutschen Streitkräfte haben das Recht, sich öffentlich darzustellen, also zu demonstrieren.

Das hat mit den Linken überhaupt nichts zu tun, sondern war und ist eine Konsequenz aus 1945. Ich finde das unpassend, wenn Rechte hier dauernd über Linke herziehen. Es geht beim Zapfenstreich um eine Huldigugn des Parlamentarismus, der Demokratie, um das Außerstreitstellen von Gemeinsamkeiten. Diese unsinnige "die bösen linken" Gezänk hat hier nichts verloren

Sorry, aber das ist einfach lächerlich. Schau mal in den Iran, die Türkei. Die sekulär Linke ist die einzig relevante Opposition zum politischen Islam. Ich finde das so lächerlich, wie man das in Europa verdreht und so tut, als ob nur rechte Rassisten euch vor dem bösen Islam retten würden. Die sind irrelevant, denen sind die Verbrechen in den islamistischen Staaten völlig egal.
Mit eurem Linkenhass treibt ihr die Linken nur zu den Islamisten, die sich als arme Opfer darstellen

Trotzdem würde ich bei euch Strache mit seiner FPÖ oder das BZÖ unterstützen!! Aber es kann doch nicht sein, dass die atheistischen Linken auf einmal Schutzmacht der Menschen sind die ihre 16 jährigen Töchter verbuddeln weil sie einen österreichisch/deutschen Freund haben. den grossen zapfenstreich haben wir damals auch mitgemacht, aber in siegburg auf dem marktplatz. war schon ein tolles erlebnis :-)
1997 waren die ja noch dort und in berlin stationiert...

Well, some of the symbolism in German imperial tradition go back to the Roman empire. The holy German/Roman Empire, established in the middle ages, was seen as a kind of resurrection of the ancient Roman empire.
Hitler also tried to mimic the Romans and French in his architectural plans for Berlin, planning a Great Hall (like the Pantheon in Rome) and a huge Arch of Triumph (like in Paris and Rome).
It's quite ironic that he admired non-aryan buildingstyles like that..

You are talking about the thing they carry in front of the musicians? That's a "Schellenbaum" or "Turkish Crescent/Jingling Johnnie". Originaly a standards of the Otoman Empire, they made it into european Armys after the wars against the otomans in the second half of the 17th century. In todays German Army they are the standards of the Musiccorps and are some kind of instrument themselves, because there are bells on it that sound while marching.

Hallo, wie lächerlich sind hier eigentlich einige Kommentatoren? sich Gedanken über eine Helm zumachen: Weltweit sind die Köpfe der Menschen nahezu identisch, die Helme sehen auch alle - bis auf geschmackliche Unterschiede - ähnlich aus: Sie sollen den Kopf des Trägers schützen. Aber im Video geht es um das höchste militärische Zeremoniell der Bundeswehr, und nicht um die primitive Frage, wer den Helm erfunden hat. Mein Gott.
