No surf in Miami? I just happened to be there circa 1966 when some kinda storm north east turned the entire coast of Miami into a barreling left point break. 4-6'
Could be 1st street in Miami but my moneys on Cocoa in the mid 60's boards are lighter and much more agile than boards from the 50's.If I could get Daddy Dick to take a peek at this he would know in a minute.
The clip is so blurry, it is hard to tell where it is. if it is [in fact] Sobe, the waves definitely don't break like that anymore. The waves are mushy and long much like the Cocoa area. Frenchee surfer is right, it looks more life the 1960's. Maybe that is Jack Murphy.
I have never seen So. Beach break like a point break. But that does look like Jack Murphy. I have been surfing S. Fla. since the mid-seventies, I always heard how good it broke in Miami B. in the fifties.
Is that Jack Murf the Surf Murphy? that is South Beach Waves, or at least that is what it looks like to me. The Film was shot from the OlD pier. Contact the Miami Dade County Library, they have I think the Wolfson Center who tries to collect old films from Miami.

not the 1950s at all. those are glassed boards and it looks like west coast surf.
florida never is that glassy.
and there would not have been that many guys surfing east coast in the 1950's.
