  • So, did the remote shoot first?

  • Fuck my face, goddamn lucas, FIX THAT FUCKING LIGHTSABER!

even better, MAKE LUKE'S LIGHTSABER ACTUALLY CUT THINGS IN EPISODE SIX!

  • Does this really look better to anyone?

  • No. And is it only me or have he aded stuff and made obi wan and luke seem like standing further away from the camera?

  • The lightsabers look like crap in this movie because Lucas knows all the millions of middle aged nerds who need to keep the movie exactly the way it was to feel like kids again would get pissed off by him improving them, so blame those lost childhood sobbing SOBs instead.

  • @JehudahRobots Middle aged nerds huh? I am 38 and saw this when I was 3 1/2 years old and I bet I could take you any day you piece of crap

  • is this the before or after

  • 0:10 - 0:12 is porkins fault lol

  • I would be perfectly fine if they had re-rotoscoped all of the lightsaber shots and blaster bolts. They could also fix it so Luke's blade in Episode IV 'grows' like in the other films, instead of just appearing, and fix the noticeable jump. That woudn't harm the films at all.

But rocks in front of R2, sparks in Cloud City, blinking ewoks and Vader shouting no are all more important, and they make the films SO much better.

  • @TheUnbreakableOtaku

    I'd want three cuts.

    100% untouched.

Lightly and intelligently tweaked, like the lightsabers and blaster bolts and color and some visible mistakes removed carefully, take out Vader's eyebrows, and the Biggs scene can be added.

Then the third cut can have lots of stuff thrown in.

  • first is blue, then is green, and now is white?

  • Ah, Lucas. He can take the time to put in new and unnecessary changes, but he can't take the time to fulfill the actual purpose of a re-mastered version: changing out the old CG effects with new ones that look better.

  • Should never have needed to be corrected in the first place - how many employees does he have?! When I were a lad they'd have called this a "fault" and there would have been a recall and replacement for the customers.

  • Wait why was this necessary? I always thought the lightsabers in the ONLY triology looked more real. The light virbates more, adds intensity to it. And the light is mostly white with a hint of color which I always thought would be more exact to how the laser would appear. Only in the darker scenes can you truly see how pigmented the color is. Makes more sense.

  • @michaelandjennyshow you do realize that a real laser is monochromatic: a pure, saturated single color. of course you can speculate that a light saber might involve some sort of additional EM effects (maybe it fluoresces the midichlorians?) but it doesn't make that much sense for an actual laser to be white.

  • @saraha180 Well I don't know the science of it to be perfectly honest, all I know from a filmmaking perspective is that when you film a laser pointer against a wall it appears to be white in the center, with diffused red circling it. Are you saying that a real sword made of laser would be a flat red color??

  • They change the crap they don't needa change how about adding proper CG Lightsabers like they had in Ep 2&3. I loved that little flair when the lightsaber was switched on and off.

  • how come they change everything i DONT want them to change, BUT they still make Luke's lightsaber suddenly dissapear when it retracts? It looks like some shitty jump cut!!! Why cant they fix that insted. Fuck!

  • why add NOOOOOOOOs to every scene darth vader is in (exaggeration :}) and not at least make this lightsaber look better? it still looks green. Compare this NH saber to anakins in ROTS and it doesnt make sense that they are supposed to be the same. if you are going to mess around with the originals lucas at least make them better

  • Hey haters, do you get afraid of more changes when new releases come? Then you see the changes and you feel a lot of anger! Then, you start hating on Lucas, and finally, you suffer.

You guys know what path you have chosen? :3

  • I have seen better by the fans...

  • RELAX. ITS BASICALLY THE SAME MOVIE GUYS. FORGET GETTING ANGRY OVER SILLY DETAILS.

  • It's like George Lucas is trying to piss us off!

  • @LukeMM95

Yeah, give in to your anger. Let the hate flow trought you -.-

  • Why fix the lightsabers in the Obi Wan vs Vader duel but not this!!

  • still looking white... what a piece of shit.

  • Thank goodness, they made it blue again. Now, as for the light and dark issues, the funny thing is that they depended on the player you were using.

  • It took me many many years to realize that in this scene, when Luke turns on the lightsaber, that when the thing turns on, the scene is cut. Two different videos were added together right when he turns it on!

  • @Fetcha200 Haha, yeah, me too! It's something you totally don't notice, but once you DO notice it, it's almost embarrassing. All these alterations and A New Hope still hasn't aged all that well. It won't matter to hardcore fans such as myself, but you're not gonna bring in many new fans in an age where special effects are more important than telling a story.....

  • 0:40 he almost cuts his arm off.

  • lol luke's ligthsaber is green not blue or grey

  • @gbossi1 His lightsaber is blue. He doesn't get the green lightsaber until episode VI.

  • In the game KOTOR II there are several lightsaber color crystals based on this particular scene. 1. The cyan color 2. The viridian color 3. The white color. There's even a brass color for the odd Vader inconsistency from time to time in later films.

  • "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO"

    -Darth Vader

  • 0:39 I'm no expert, but should a "light" saber project a shadow on Luke's body like a mere stick?

  • I took the time after the '04 DVDs came out to go through and compile a list of tens and tens (which was not even all of it) of TECHNICAL ERRORS, and mailed it to Lucas Film, for their reference, to REPAIR said things for future releases. It was sent back to me, with a note saying, in short, "Lucas Film does not accept unsolicited creative suggestions." So yeah.. they don't accept a free list of TECHNICAL FAULTS with the movies. I thought ILM & LF were supposed to be the peak of their craft.....

  • Common Lucas. It can't be that hard to fix. I could probably do it myself if i wanted to

  • @ratchetxrc nah, he's just leaving that for the next re-re-re-re-re-re-re-release!

  • what's the change?

  • i thought this would be porn

  • Why is it that ILM still can't get the lighsaber right in this movie, but some bloke form the U.K. named Adywan with a home computer can nail it ???

  • lucs has nothing to do with the color of the saber. its his production team's fault. however i dont undersstand how lucas cant spot a problem. the only issue i have with this version is that his saber turns whitte with an orange tint

  • This is why I thought luke's lightsaber was green all the time as a kid

  • Lucas isn't editing the lightsabers because he's saving those changes for another release.

  • Needs more blue.

  • @Calick no, needs to be re-rotoscope digitally for a modernized blue lightsaber. george should of re-rotoscope all the lightsabers from the originals to look like they were made in the mid-late '90s just like episode 1 (before episode 1 was released) and again along with episode 1 to look as good as the one in episode 2 and 3. Also the lightsabers from Star Wars needs new power ups and power downs to replace lightsaber jump cuts.

  • @MartinNBambi ...of...course, that's what I meant.

  • i have all the blu ray movies so wtf :\

  • It always drove me NUTS when watching the DVD version. WHY WAS IT GREEN? This change is a good thing.

  • Comment removed

  • But THANK GOD the Ewoks blink now!! *whew*

  • @dimelives1 HA HA ur champion, cant beleive the blade looks so bad. wen i showed this to my girlfriend i was actually embarrassed !!

  • @dimelives1 ha ha

  • highOpniac: the only thing I can think of is that this is supposed to be an older light saber. Not as old as the light sabres in the old republic, because there is one used in season two of the clone wars that looks completely different than this one. You can see the handle is rather plain looking with no ornamentation. The better question would probably be: When was Anakin using this light sabre in the prequels. I do not remember seeing it. So was it really his or was Obi-wan fibbing?

  • @JeffTheNebraskaDJ

This is Anakin's Lightsaber. If you compare the two props to one another, they have the same design, with some slight changes. The activation box uses a circuit-like pattern instead of the bubble lenses. The test lamp bulb is replaced with a second test lamp button (as is his ESB Lightsaber) and a few other minor changes.

  • @Draknfyre Thank you. You are very observant, the dj.

  • hahah still looks shit

  • All this is, is the original effects seen in 1977 :/. He spent soo much time on other aspects yet couldnt do that for this scene?

  • My copy of a new hope blue ray seems to have audio issues. Anyone else hearing to much bass at times in the actors voice?

  • It still looks kinda green if you ask me. It doesn´t make sense that he can make the Ewoks blink and animate Sebulba to walk into Jabbas palace, but he can´t make the lightsabers look so cool like they did in star wars 1, 2 and 3. Well, if he didn´t do it now, then maybe in 10 years when he releases this movie in Mega HD or in 4D or what ever it will look like.

  • he spent more time on blinking ewoks, krayet dragon calls and darth vader saying no then he did on this... ITS SO STUPID ITS FUNNY!!!!

  • Still looks green. I really dun care.

  • The crystal he is using is a training crystal called Sunrider's Destiny. Rare crystals like this are in common use in the SWG universe. Lucas retinted the color a greenish teal in all the scenes to make them consistent, instead of the problematic green or blue with a whitish in between shot. See Star Wars wikia on this

  • heh, i like the old effects better, it looks more powerful.

  • Shouldn't the lightsaber be blue?

  • It still looks like shit...

  • Jesus Christ. 5 re-releases later and the lightsabers in A New Hope still look like shit. At least change that ffs!

  • @Kleavers i never understood that either. its still white not blue lol

  • @Kleavers because this film is a classic and little imperfections like that is the reason why i love it! Not every things about CGI.

  • @Kleavers

What? You want GEORGE LUCAS TO MAKE CHANGES TO THE ORIGINAL FOOTAGE? :3

  • @Kleavers I don't understand why they don't fix shit like this either.

  • BLUray couldn't make it blue?

  • Is that supposed to be blu ray footage? This scene had at least three different colours for this lightsaber (blue, white and greenish) when I've seen it for the last time. Couldn't they really fix it for blu ray?

  • Looks almost the same as the dvd stuff to me. Reason #422 why I'm not buying Star Wars again... ;-)

  • Still bad.

  • It still looks green!

  • Lucas is saving these changes for Star Wars re-release #431.

  • I'm glad they fixed that one goof from the DVD version where Luke's lightsaber looked green in the beginning of this scene. Still, I wonder why they left the rest of the lightsaber's appearance in this whole scene untouched.

  • still looks a little green, are the people who work on these films retarted? no one ever listens to the fans it's all me me me for george lucas

  • Funny how it was nice in original and screwed in the special edition. The Originals will strike back would be a nice movie.

  • ABSOLUTELY !!! what happened is...after Lucas made ALL the bad changes, the good ones are of no concern...we are sick of Lucas's changes...Oh wait, its NOT George !!! He's been locked away in a basement for 25 years by Spock !!!

Don't worry folks...George Lucas WILL Strike Back !!!

  • @jackhammer10101 THAT TRAILER IS FAKE FOR THE LAST TIME IT IS GEORGE LUCAS... I think.

  • Everybody who thinks like the maker of this video is a fool!!!

  • it doesn't look very much cahnged at all to me :/

  • This was corrected???

    How, exactly?

    Fucking George Lucas. Autistic cunt.

  • @Kainlarsen In this scene there was a point when it was green, and another when it was white... Nitpicking, but a change I personally don't mind.

  • @Hiyama420 I know, but it was so insignificant, that it was pontless. And people fall for this. They fall over, drooling like rabid animals, for this. I don't know who's worse; them, or him?

  • At 47 seconds that's how the colour of the saber should look. That is, if the saber Luke is supposed to be using is Anakins from Revenge of the Sith.

  • A note to George: teal lightsabers are fine and dandy, but NOT IN THE ORIGINAL FILMS.

  • They didnt change crap.

  • Still looks all white and kinda green to me. Should be blue the entire time. Not upgraded from the original. Not at all. This is still the same.

  • You know? I always figured that since Luke was doing a training session, he was using a training saber. It never indicated anywhere that it was the same saber. So, this was totally one thing that never should be and probably never will be changed. Many of you people who post are right-minded when you criticize Lucas's "re-mastering," however, in this instance, all of you who incorrectly think this particular scene need "corrections" are idiots.

  • @jamesearlray You've always figured Luke was using a "training saber"? Well, I hate to to be the one to tell you, but he's actually using the lightsaber Obi-Wan had given him earlier. That's been pretty well established. If you really believe that anyone who thinks this particular scene needs "correction" is an idiot - then you should address that to Lucasfilm. They used this scene to advertise the "corrections" they've made for the Blu Ray release.

  • Geez, why won't they fix that fucking lightsaber? A bit more important than making Ewoks blink.

  • Corrected my fucking ass. It's still fucking terrible. I thought it was piss poor they didn't fix it for the DVD's in 2004, and the fact it hasn't been fixed in 2011 is a fucking goddamn shame. SHAME ON YOU GEORGE LUCSHIT! You fuck the movies up with your bullshit additions, but won't fix the FX that sucked from the beginning!

JUST FUCKING DIE LUCAS SO WE CAN HAVE YOUR ESTATE ALLOW MORE MOVIES!

  • I just found out that (Renewed Hope is a Fake) I am sorry for the confusion. It looked so real. I don't know what to believe. Still, I am not a liar just thought what I saw was real. Sorry again!

  • I just found out that (Renewed Hope is a Fake) I am sorry for the confusion. It looked so real. I don't know what to believe. Still, I am not a liar just thought what I saw was real. Sorry again!

  • THIS IS A LIE. TYPE THIS IN TO SEE THE REAL BLU RAY FOOTAGE

Star Wars - A Renewed Hope - Blu Ray 15 minutes of changes

HIS BLUE LIGHT SABER LOOKS GREAT IN THE BLU RAY

  • @MrZeeshawn I just typed that in - that's by a fan who obviously fixed the errors himself. You're a lie.

  • I'm learning how to use After Effects so I can fix these up by myself. I'm practicing now on the DVDs. When the Blu-Ray is released, I'll start my super long project of fixing all the lightsabers.

  • Instead of just changing the "glow", I would've done a complete renovation on ALL OF THE LIGHTSABERS IN ALL OF THE MOVIES and make them look like the ones in Revenge of the Sith, that way, there has to be no further versions released altering them further.

  • It could be explained that decades of lying unused caused the beam to weaken...? *shrugs*

  • I wish Lucas would've had ALL the lightsabers be consistent. The one constant throughout the ENTIRE Saga is the lightsabers...that would've been cool.

  • @anakinthehutt If he made the lightsabers look different in the originals, fans would have been in an uproar, as usual. I feel that most of the blu ray changes were good, but there were a few really bad ones(and I mean REALLY bad ones). Most critical is probably having Darth Vader yell "NO!" at the end of Return of the Jedi. It totally destroyed the original feel of it.

  • if lucas has the technology to make the lightsabers look as good as they do in 2 an 3 for 1,4,5, an 6 which he does. why not do it?? i would have made that change for the blu ray, this is fail.

  • @hiphOpniac No, Episode 1 was good. Only the original trilogy one sucks.

  • @DippersandSmiles how 1,4,5, and 6 should look /watch?v=JmhcG1jTHBg&feature=related

  • @DippersandSmiles i think you've been smoking too much of the bad seen

  • @bookworm1138 GTFO TROLL!!!!!

  • @DippersandSmiles nope, because you're the troll, and you have been smoking the bad seed. episode 1 was boring as hell. i have to start here at episode 4 if i want to watch the whole movies, or i just say what i say to you now

    fuck this shit!

  • @bookworm1138 You are mistaken. I wasn't taking about how good the films are. I know that Episode 1 was pretty bad and the trilogy was the best. I was taking about the lightsaber effects. Idiot! Episode 1 was good when you look at the lightsabers. But trilogy had some screw ups. The colors change a bit when the screen changes. Think before you post up stupid comments.

  • @hiphOpniac No the light sabers looking like crap is fine...he'd rather change the most climactic scene in the saga by adding vader screaming NOOOOO...this makes the emperor look stupid and removes the empathy that the viewer had with vader because you could feel vader's inner struggle...epic fail

  • @dannielz6 Vader doesn't "scream" it though. Though you're right that it's still removing the whole "inner struggle" thing, kind of adding a bit of pain to what was truly very good in the first place. Though I don't take as much offense to that as them suddenly adding Hayden Christensen into it.

  • @hiphOpniac You do know George is planning to re-release Star wars in a better version with new characters right? Lets just cry for the old characters.

  • @hiphOpniac

I never even noticed that they looked better in 2 and 3 than in 1.

But I find the more they change the originals the more it takes me out of the movie I really wish Lucas would have just stopped after THX.

  • Not bad, it looks a little better. Its still not right, but Adywan knows where its at :)
