  • I'm looking for the real thing people. help?

  • The best actor in this plays Ann Putnam... That's sad...

  • hahahahahaha

  • The dancing scene was awesome, but the acting wasn't that great.

  • *blech* xP

  • Good sound FX. Decent staging.

  • A white Tituba??

  • @RomanticsInc I know, "She from Barbados"!

  • lol, i dnt see a nekid person . . .

  • What music is playing at the very beginning?

  • we finished reading the crucible just yesterday. it was good. this though, sorta disappointed me in a way... idk

  • Lol, this is dreadful. Im performing the crucible soon in my high school and lord, we are soooo much better. This video prooved it :)

  • Actually she was from Barbados

  • The REAL Tituba was Indian, but the Totuba for the play is African.

  • @ToxicMonkies *Tituba. Bad typo.

  • Rev. Parris wants to hurry up and spit out his lines to make sure he knows them ....?

  • wtf? Tituba is supposed to be BLACK!... do you not get what a slave is? and a couple of the dancing girls are black.. do you not what time period this play was set in? (not to be racist) Black people were SLAVES.

You really can't, not type cast in this type of play... really upsetting

  • @Anonymousnikka Actually, if you knew your history, there were Indian slaves back then.

  • titchuba was dumb nigger not a ugly ass white bitchhh

  • did your school pay royalties to perform this?

  • parts of this were good :) i jst think the beginning needed much more energy and crazyiness to really hit the auidence ..... and speaking of auidnece they were loud !? kinda disrespectful .................

  • great sound effects

  • my school just got done doing the crucible. it was amazing. i played reverand john hale

  • @dylanbrown1 i love the character john hale!

  • Arn't you meant o be naked? ;p

  • I am playing Mary in my theatre companiy's prodiction. I alo t of fun and a lot of screaming and crying

  • Wow, I was looking at old comments. Ella playing Tituba seems to be a sore bit for them eh? I thought she did amazing. Sure, she is pasty pasty white, but she committed. I love that girl.

  • just so u know, the other girls didnt wana kill goody proctor, abigail did. get yur facts fucking right

  • Your props are wonderful, I wish our school had good funding for drama, we have hardly nothing, and have to use a two foot platform as a bed.

  • @lolitagirl15 ditto..we have a drama club in our school...and the school wont let us use the aditorium for some stupid reason...so we have to use our small classroom with a small stage...which is stupid...the only people who use the stage for entertainment is band and our schools SING team

  • That sucks. We at least have the stage, although lately they keep trying to schedule scholarship signings during our practices, my drama teacher gets pissed and has to go yell at the people in the office. lol.

  • i'll never understand why drama teachers make kids perform stuff like this.

  • @johnbourbon Because it's good theatre.

  • So is Equus. Why is that never done in HS?

  • @johnbourbon Because not all good theatre is deemed appropriate by the school board blah blah. It is, after all, EQUUS.

  • "not all good theatre is deemed appropriate by the school"

this is exactly my point re: the crucible.

  • wow.. i was reading the book while watching this at the same time.. its pretty good. they're basically the same exact lines.

  • Yes actually it does matter because the Drama Teacher should be portraying the play as it was written Tituba and Mary Warren where black and the teacher of all people should portray it correctly

  • Mary Warren is black? That's a new one...

  • But as it is written if they wanted to go to state with it they couldn't because they were not correct. that's state rules. and no really race doesnt matter but the way they want it portried does n honestly i don't remember what race Mary was. I just know she was an out cast n the other girls were jerks. But Tituba does need to be portayed as someone from barbodos.

  • ...wow dude...

  • Tituba was Indian...Mary Warren was white so this is kinda wrong

  • @KillerSlashProduct titiuba was actually from barbados. last time i checked, thats not india.

  • mary warren was not black. A white girl just happened to play Tituba better. In the end it should be about talent, not race

  • ...Sorry but Tituba was Indian...☺

  • We're doing the Crucible at my school, but we're high school. At the end we hang proctor. it's awesome :D

  • they didn't show the part with marry warren

  • Tituba was a slave in the 1600's. It is not racist to cast someone if they look the part and not cast someone if they don't look the part. Miller wrote her as a black slave. I think it could be a disrespect to Miller, who is an icon, to cast his play poorly.

  • regardless of what all the comments say, i found it good, the props were awsome, and the acting...i admit coulda been better, but it was awsome the way it was, i wouldnt change a thing, good job =D

  • isn't it kinda racist sayin that a white girl cant play tituba i understand that miller wrote her as black but it makes no difference. Just because the girl is white it doesn't mean she cant play the part better.

  • the acting quality in this is very very poor

  • I can't find part 2 or 3

  • AWW man they dont get naked like the book says!!!

  • this was an abomination of arthur miller. It made me see how much talent my school really has [south medford!!]

  • HAHA WHY IS TITUBA WHITE?? Not only that, but there are black girls among the teens-one of them should have been Tituba. Also, when dancing in the forest...there should be a forest. Hmm well not bad, but you guys needed to be stronger. I can see that you took the time to learn your lines well enough but more effort was needed in the emotional and physical aspects. Nicely done still. :)

  • I do. :) But, the one we did at PVCC was the Crucible to own all Crucibles anyway. :D

  • what do you mean who cares? Tituba's character is a slave.

  • I mean who cares because it's just a play... Tituba was white in our play and Mercy was black. So what? :/

  • Hmmm...because of:

    1. Historical accuracy....duh

    2. Tituba was originally from Barbados

    3. It's not "just a play". Arthur Miller drew from these witch trials to speak to a specific era of people...more specifically, McCarthy.

Unless you have a specific reason to cast it that way and ready to defend it...for historical plays...wow...just do your research.

I hate people who don't care and do whatever they want to butcher theatre.

  • So your point being? It's about who can play the role better not the colour of ones skin. If you were so experienced like you're trying to come accross then you would surely know that.

  • If the only excuse is that a white girl could play the part better, then that is pure ignorance and laziness on the directors part bc he/she didn't want to work with the actress. Miller wrote the character's in a particular way for a reason and respectfully should be done as such. If you go out of that, you better be ready to defend the choice in a logical manner. The fact that you keep saying "It's just a play" speaks volumes that you don't have enough respect for the author or the text.

  • BTW, I'm all for colorblind and non-traditional casting. But like I said, if there is a specific reasoning that you go out of the traditional casting, be ready to defend it and make clear of the message you want to portray to the audience.

  • No, it's because the white girl could play Tituba better and the black girl could play Mercy better. So how is that ignorance? Don't get all touchy just because you care does not mean the rest of the world does and so thats why I don't even need to explain it to you. Since I don't care and neither does the person who posted this video. Go and have a debate on some forum or something.

  • Are you a fucking idiot? Ignorance on my part that if the white girl can play it better then she can? I think that's ignorance on your part thinking that only a black person can be the slave in this play. You can modify it slightly it wont hurt anyone appart from your feelings.

  • Well, seeing your language and how personal you responded to my comments and those before me who agreed with me even before I chimed in, I'd say that your feelings got a little hurt. Responding a month later? I thought the discussion was closed and I let you have the last word. I was hoping you were up for some friendly debate about the play and given me something to research and think about. I'm working on this play for my thesis. But I can see you're too immature for that. Have a lovely day

  • Actualy someone replied to my comment and I just went to see it and saw a few of your dumn comments. My feelings aren't hurt. Theres a difference between hurt feelings and pure annoyance.

  • Missykinss, I do have a question for you, actually. It's a legit question, how did you guys handle Tituba's line, "I have white people belong to me"? I'm just curious. And how did you guys set her apart from the rest of the cast other than costume? Tituba gains this sense of power during that scene when she is responding to Hale that she never would have had before because she was a slave and of different race. I'm really curious and I ask from an open and curious mind.

  • Im not gona lie, I can't remember well because we cut alot of her parts out. It was a quite long time ago if I find the DVD I'll watch it and tell you.

  • the audience genius

  • What? :S

  • This is Toz ;)

I liked your opening, the dance was a good idea but too much like the film. Dear Betty's scream's sounded like a dog in pain and wanting to be put out of its misery. The set was too modern to be found in 1652 ;) DICTION. Parris needs to add some sort of inflection into his voice, same with Abigail. Goody Putnam needed to be louder, and Putnam needed to act ;) Apart from that, and the general lack of energy, this was a good opening :)

  • This is Moz

Me and my cousin are going this play at the moment, he is Danforth and I'm Mary Warren. I have to be honest, I don't think the emotion is coming across in this- I think you have to vary your tone.. the danger is that in a big venue packed with people, you try to speak louder to be heard and as a result all the emotion and clarity is lost.. i just dont think that you THREW yourselves into the play.

Ours is being filmed tomorrow for the friday show, we'll have it up next week :)

  • Ok the guy playing Putnam Sucks...My school is doing this show this weekend and i Play Putnam...I hope im better than this Guy...damn...

  • bad blocking parris turns back to audience Projection(abigale-good parris-horrible goody and mr putnam-bad

    how old are these actors?

  • Teenagers. How old did you think they were, prick?

  • i ment what grade level jr high highschool

im just saying they needed to project more and not turn there back to the audience otherwise it was good

  • omg. that scream in the beggining almost blew my eardrums out

  • hmmm not bad :)

  • Parris doesn't show much emotion in his voice.

This is a play of great emotions, and Parris says everything in pretty much the same voice.

  • Im doing this but we have a communism theme up and im playing as Francis Nurse I didnt have to audition and i got in. But if i did audition I would have auditioned for hale

  • meh

  • Pretty Great!

Our drama club is actually working on this

play right now. Yaritzell is assistant director and I'm Tituba. What song did you guys use for the forest dance scene? We have no music, we only have a drum. Besides that,

we had to cut off many parts since it is too

    long of a play.

    - Yaritzell & Angela

  • p.s. at the end i meant to say.. ours is not nearly as fast-paced. we did cut a lot and some of it, i didn't agree with, but it doesn't feel as rushed.

anyway, i thought this was really good--and the opening is very intense. i like it!

  • nice job! my school's doing this right now.

the casting of tituba is interesting.. but we have some strange casting too. thomas putnam was cut and his lines given to goody putnam, cheever and herrick were combined (lack of guys), danforth and hathorne were combined (again, we only had like 6 guys audition), and reverend parris is an asian guy. the only thing i didn't like about this was that it seemed reallyreally fast-paced. how long did the show run? ours runs about 2 hours, but we cut a lot.

  • where did you get your costumes? we are doing the same play and our director wants us to buy our own costumes and i can not find them anywhere

  • Some of it was handmade by Danforth's mother, some (basic stuff) was bought in packs at the thrift store, some was old stuff from the wardrobe, and a couple pieces (Proctor's coat) were personal items.

  • What? -Your school doensn't have a black actress to play Tituba?

  • must be an all white school

  • No, there's some black girls there. If you got black actresses, I don't know why one wasn't cast for Tituba.

  • Um... because our director wasn't just going to give the role to a black girl because she's black. Of course, there was one (not in this show) who could've nailed the role, but... meh, complications and stuff.

  • That real reason is because it's highschool theater. This wouldn't occur in professional acting, -that is unless the entire cast is intentionaly 'miscast' in order for art's sake.

Tituba really should be played by a black actress. By casting a white actress, the sympathy towards Tituba's condition just isn't there. Tituba was a 'double victim', a victim of slavery and of a witch hunt.

  • Well, truth be told, many historical experts believe Tituba was Native American. But no, in a professional production Tituba would never be anyone but a black woman if for no other reason than if she's not, the line "I have white people belong to me" makes no sense. In this production we changed in to "I have Salem people belong to me, but truth be told, that doesn't make sense either.

  • Well, she was said to be 'Indian', but white people used the term 'Indian' for any native people, regardless if they were Native American or not. Also, at that time it was common to lump Native American and Africans together, basicly white people were a bunch of hate-filled bigots. Nobody truly knows what race Tituba was, but traditional a dark skinned (black) actress is used to represent her, as Barbados is mentioned.

  • We cast a white girl in the part at my high school because we only had one Black kid there, and He was a guy...(the girls moved in next year XD) so we painted her skin black EVERY night XD It was great fun XD

  • it was probably just the akwardness...but it does say a slave from barbadoes...I mean if it calls for it then...I mean if it called for a white girl there would be no problem.

  • my school's doing this too!

  • Odd. I've been in this play twice, and NEVER seen that opening bit with Tituba and the girls in the woods o.O Did you...write that yourselves and add it in, or...?

  • We added it back it, to give the rest of the girls more to do and stuff.

  • yeah, to make the audience understand more and give all of the extras something more to do.

  • I see XD

  • How did you have Thomas Putnam and Herrick be played by the same actor? Did they just become the same character, or did they switch out?

We're doing the same casting, and I just wanted to know how you did it... Just to have an idea.

    thanks!

  • Doubled up. Since Putnam doesn't do anything in Act 3 apart from his one line and getting attacked by Corey, he can exit shortly afterward so he can change back into Herrick costume before Herrick's next entrance.

  • You put it up! I'm glad I get to watch it, since I was backstage for most of it! :)

  • we are doing this play for competition

    :D

  • mi name is shannon proctor lol
