very very old response I know, but as far as IM concerned "djent" is not a genre but a style of guitar playing. There are tons of vids explaining the sounds and I pretty much agree... although I also hate being one to "sub-genre" any metal (prog metal, mathcore, screamo, prog hardcore, hardcore, grindcore, etc.) when it pretty much is what it is, METAL!

@emandude i follow djent more for the guitar style + unusual time signatures, heavy syncopated beats and also the different chordal progression used. I've found it to be inspiring to listen to something that isn't dominated by standard 4/4 or 3/4 time, or using the same 3-4 chords within one given song. To me, thats what makes this genre so worthwhile to listen to. (opinionated of course).
