  • can somebody tell me what this song is about. i've been searching for so long for its meaning but have came up empty. thanks

  • it's "All that I see, is peaceful eyes drawn away from me"

  • @leheroe19 i forgot to thank you for your answer! ;)

  • Sounds like ozzy

  • Interpol have been my favourite band for a long time now...overtaking Metallica previously. I find their songs grow on you, for example when I first heard this, I didn't like it...but after many, many listens, it's amazing :D

  • GREAT SONG BUT THE REST OF THE ALBUM SUCKS...SADLY

  • what does it mean: i want you to police me?

my english is not so perfect ;)

  • @pampelonne63 easy...."he" wants "her" to make him acomplish something....Or maybe "he" just wants "her" to take care of him as in a relationship ._.

  • something is so beautiful about this

  • Every Interpol album I listen to seems wrong the first few times and then it suddenly hits me, like 'Wow, this is fucking genius'

  • @Maxtaxifromhell It's because many of you expect the music to start great right away, interpol's songs are very constructive, they have, most of them, a lazy boring intro which little by little builds up and becomes extraordinary to a climax from which it descends back to the earth, ussually back to the same boring intro...

  • shite,im waiting for them too basically ,rock out but they dont he sounds a bit like ozzy, antics album, evil, public pervert length of love and slow hands, thas a fantastic sound

  • THAT'S WHY I HOLD YOU DEAR!

  • I am seriously loving this song. Came across it while looking for another Interpol song and I am HOOKED.

  • I know we all hate the Joy Division comparisons but this does remind me a bit of 'Autosuggestion'....builds slowly and relentlessly for 4 minutes before crashing over that brilliant climax......

  • This band is the best

  • this is REAL music

    unlike that mainstream shit

  • <33333333333333333333

  • thats why I hold you....That is why I hold you dear!

  • Saw them open for U2 those guys were great in concert

  • @Deathryzer Yeah I been listening songs round n round (the ones That I like) lately

  • justin bieber must have watched this 30 times for some reason

  • @JoeDeckz Shut up about the Bieber already. I'm tired of this bullshit and don't want to see his name while I watch an Interpol video.

  • ur comment made my day :D

  • @13gliddyg31 To be honest I think it is just length. I wouldn't have thought it was because anyone disagreed with the lyrics or anything. Perhaps it didn't fit in with what was being shown on the video...even though I found that the video was a bit obscure and I didn't particularly know what they were trying to show with the video...the video didn't make any sense to me.

  • 30 people really need some light to shine into their music taste.

really need a light to shine to their wisdom.because these guys totally rocks.

  • i thought at first its said 'thats why i own you' which made the song alot creepier

  • @ Beartrucci I saw them in Tulsa too !!

    They were AMAZING <333333

    I love them so muchhhh.

  • RON PAUL 2012!

  • That's why I hold you ...

  • it`s a bit slow, but i like it

  • Seeing Interpol in Two Days! Time to Turn on the Bright Lights in Tulsa! Can't Wait!

  • i saw interpol at ucsb...it was ecstacy when they played this song....interpol live...wow...if u havent' seen them, you have to.....

  • I love this song BUT Try It On is actually the true best Interpol song ever created go listen to it a few times.

  • I really like the self-titled album ok. I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY EVERYONE IS SAYING IT'S A LET DOWN. IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL.

  • lól_ï_sìgñëd_ùp_åt_füll_tïlt_pòkèr

    _ûsiñg_rèferrål_cødë:_you600_ánd_göt_a_600_Ðòllar_bôñus

  • hey are there any other interpol songs as good as this one, cause I've only heard a couple (heimlech, evil) and they're mediocre at best, but this song is awesome...help please

  • @armsofdelmar Yeah try 'Obstacle 1', 'Hands Away', 'Narc'...all great tunes.

  • Each and every one of the songs on this album individually crept into my mind and they keep it hostage. That's the way it should be.

  • @0Reap Lyrics are in the description..

  • This album isn't so bad!!

  • really good song for the bedroom, especially when she wants to play rough

  • best song on their best album only a true interpol fan would know that.......real fan...

  • Never heard of them before, saw them doing it live on conan. Was a really good performance

  • @riastradh1 did you live on mars for 'bout 5 years?? you had never heard of interpol??!!

  • @zjerna No it's just not the type of music I usually listen to, it's not like they're a gigantic band or anything anyway, in hindsight i had heard the name before but I just never got into them

  • \0/

  • I've been through several videos that say "lyrics" .....Wtf does that mean besides putting up the video WITH lyrics in/at the bottom?!? Welp, this one is a miss too and if you're trying to get people into this song by posting it w/o lyrics as well, take this to heart..... Not only are you frustrating people interested in this song/band for the first time enough to the point of no longer pursuing it/them BUT You're misusing the right to say "lyrics" in the description if they're not in the video.

  • @AchhmedTony

in this case the lyrics are in the video description

  • lol editors also have a song called "lights"

  • Damn this is Sexy literally!!!!!!!!

  • BOUGHT THIS CD 3 DAYS AGO AND HAVE LISTENED TO "LIGHTS" AT LEAST 150 TIMES NON STOP WHAT AN AMAZING SONG JUST PURE EMOTION REMINDS ME OF JOY DIVISION HAS AN EERIE DARK SIDE TO IT THUMBS UP INTERPOL!!!!

  • I recently went to their concert and I loved Paul's guitar. Just to make sure, it's a Les Paul Costum Les Paul, right?

  • I love this song, and this album is growing on me, Success and Summer Well being among my favourites. OLTA had to grow on me as well. Many layers to get through, none the least the lyrics. Love them and how their music speaks to me. Can't wait to see them in March :)

  • This is their best song ever...on their worst album....ever

  • @Dreestwd You really gotta listen to that album again. I would place it just above the previous , OLTA.

  • @Dreestwd Well put. I have no idea what happened with this album, at least we got this song from it.

  • @Paulcash83 Thx. Yeah. I guess we should keep in mind that the other albums set a pretty high standard.

  • @Dreestwd Wadaya mean 'worst album' D: lol I actually liked their 2010 album but that's just me

  • @Dreestwd what!!! ur out of ur fucking mind! all of the songs are great. 14 ppl actually put thumbs up? freaking ridiculous.....

  • @Dreestwd How is this their worst album ever?

  • @nnprecious13 Don't want to go into a dissertation about it but I think it lacks the depth in great songs compared to the other albums. This song however, kick ass.

  • @Dreestwd I thought our love to admire was worse

  • @Dreestwd Ha. This wasn't their worst album. You can't appreciate their new change in their sound? I can imagine your next reaction when Interpol releases a new album...

  • @Dreestwd One of their best songs ever...on their best album....ever

  • @HGregm01 Nope wrong.

  • @Dreestwd

Lies. I love this album. Much darker and easier to listen to than the 1st or 2nd.

  • @Dreestwd at first interpol was like :D but then they were like D:

  • Their best song ever off of their worst album ever.

  • Does anybody else listen to this song over and over again to the point that people say something? (but you don't care)

  • @Deathryzer yes...I'm currently playing this very loud in Starbucks right now. :D

  • @Deathryzer That describes me so much the past couple of days

  • @Deathryzer I have been listening to this since the summer of 2010. It's the first song I listened to in 2012

  • I like this song its good they dont need carlos to keep their sound interpol already established their own

  • I was looking for this song for days! Finally found it! <3

  • This appears to be their last, great song.

  • This song gives me chills...

  • I fucking love this song. There's no other way to put it.

  • diese Musik trifft einen Nerv - sagenhaft - zärtlich und doch so verzweifelt - flehentlich - unglaublich - wundervoll...!!!

  • Saw this live a couple of weeks ago. Truly incredible.

  • This is possibly the best song I've ever heard!! The melody, the riff, the lyrics, so eloquent and simple. I just listened to it 10 times in a row and it only gets better with every listen.

Disclaimer: this is my opinion, I am in no way saying that you have to like this song or contradicting any of the things other people are saying about it. I will say this though: if you don't like this song then you should get your hearing taken away from you :)

  • Part of this song is in my 5 min youtube video Rob Zombies Bible Study!

  • Possibly the greatest song i've ever heard..along with every other interpol song, absolute genius.

  • i've contributed to at least 100 views. i just can't stop.

  • WIE GUT!!

  • Goddamn they played this song at the concert in Berlin! For some reason I'd never heared it before. I was near crying because of this fantastic melody and voice! In my opinion on of the best songs they've ever made.

(sry 4 my english, i'am german)

  • im having a hard time deciding whether i want to change this song or not!!!!! it gets better and better it seems. that riff is bomb-diggity!

  • im little dissapointed with the new album maybe because this was the first song released and its fucking orgasmic one of the best from interpol,so a was expecting something sou good that my balls just wont survive, unfortunately the rest of the songs are not as good as lights. But barricade, summer well, try it on,succes are real good songs and the rest may want just some more listening:)anyway, this is one of the best songs from interpol which makes it one of the bst songs ever..:)

  • @Scarletton Yeah, it seems like each successive album has gotten less-good (I don't even want to say 'worse'). The interesting thing is that even though the melodies are a bit more 'upbeat' than on 'Bright Lights,' there's this increasing bitterness (which has nothing to do with the songs being less-good).

Still, this is one of their better songs.

  • @MzCraziLady solely your opinion, i think they've come on heaps in terms of music and structure behind their songs! Personally, OLTA is my favourite album :)

  • sounds a bit black sabbath esque

  • This and "Barricade" are pretty orgasmic.

  • I'm in Canada i know ive heard this song, not sure where, but to recognize the 1st couple bars tells me it made an impression on me......def has a floyd flavour to it,and thats saying alot, cheers

  • toujours excellents je suis un fan absolu, mais sur scène je n'ai pas retrouvé cette magie, quel dommage, mais je les adore

  • awesome, reminds me at Joy Division and yet different.

  • JOY DIVISION

maar Paul is geen Ian curtis.

    toch griezelig, de gelijkenis.

en dat >dan 30 jaar later.

  • @pampelonne63 I have no idea what you just said, but I agree.

  • I am not sure what is going on below (the arguments/comments)--all that I am going to write is that this song is awesome!

  • you have to be a true Interpol fan to understand how good this is

  • @charlielufc999 nah. this is the first song i ever heard of interpol, and im addicted.

  • @charlielufc999 even an homeless person could tell themajor diference between this amazing song and "justin bieber" ...

  • @xxxnanosinxxx and that is relevant to my comment... how? lol.

  • @charlielufc999 cuz you dont have to be a true interpol fan to understand how good this is!

  • @xxxnanosinxxx so whats justin bieber got to do with it? and a homeless man? why didnt you just say that lol. alot of 'Interpol fans' have been slagging Lights off. Hence my comment...

  • @charlielufc999 nvm.... gosh!

  • @charlielufc999 i'm not a true interpol fan and i know how good this is, you only need two brain cells.

  • @nacirferan then I would say that you would be one short :-} to imply that you dont need a level of intelligence to understand Interpol sound only serves as a example of your own narrow mindedness!

  • @charlielufc999 I' not and still love it

  • @charlielufc999 not really,it´s my scond interpol sound and its sooo amazing^^

  • I featured part of this song in my 5 min youtube video: Rob Zombies Bible Study. It's getting good reviews s check it out!

  • 25 people orgasmed so hard when they heard this song they accidentally hit the dislike button.

  • the new album aint that bad. it's just that fucking lame 'memory serves' they stuck at the beginning. it upsets the flow of the album and by the time you've finished listening to the track, you're pissed off. it shouldn't even be a b side.

  • i gotta say that this song is kinds boring... but barricade is a total braingasm

  • interpol's record company and marketing department needs a big SLAP. i was unaware of interpol til i heard mamouth on the radio years back and they became the only band which i would actively seek their stuff out to Actually hand over my wages for. So why is iT by chance going thru utube links I learn they have a new album out and i learnt that from a utube comment. record company gets the lions share of profits, they could at least do their job and promote them in britain properly.

  • Interpol keeps turning on the Bright lights is horrid dark Mucic Industry.

If you want to listen to poppy crap, go listen to lady Gaga + Company

If you want to listen to cherry popping sweetheat music, go see Taylor Swift.....

If you want to listen to Gangster crap, there is plenty of shit artist to pick from......

If you want to listen to a bunch of teenagers scream AH,OH,AH go see 30 second to mars or justin B

If you want to listen to jerkoffs go to see kanye west

    Did I miss anyone?

  • Ah its so sad that this is there last Album as Interpol. I've heard on Mags that they are making a new Band with Carlos D as Bassit The Drummer and Daniel as Vocalist and Guitarist. its sad but i cant wait!

  • @soonpker what? where have you heard that?

  • @rvnneto91 It was in some magazine.

  • @soonpker Where did you hear the bit about a new band again?

  • @chefalagus it was in some magazine very surprising.

  • Literally the most boring song ever known to mankind, i heard it on the radio in work and was instantly drained of all life, i genuinley cannot think of a duller song......

  • @SlankTV try playing the new manics album thats boring as fuck lol

  • @SlankTV Oh, so you like Justin Bieber? Or can you not hear at all? Don't talk shithead.

  • @bitterbum1 What??? Im entitled to my opinion as much as the next person, I find this song very boring because its the same 4 chords over and over and over, the lyrics may be good but theres nothing to compliment it... Im a musician, i dont listen to justin Bieber, I listen to Classical, Rock, Metal, Blues, Jazz, Japanese punk, Flamenco pretty much alot.... I dont like, however, somebody who clearly doesnt know anything other than what they hear on the radio calling me a shithead...fuckin yank..

  • @SlankTV , Flamenco? i was going to explain what makes this a great & simple song but your obviously way out there & like over the top guitar solos etc , so theres no point , & i dont know what country your from but iv never heard interpol on the radio ? if bands & music like this were in the "charts" more often interpol & idlewild & the like the world would be a better place , i like a mix of sounds myself but blues is not the way forward , if u can appreciate classical u shld understand this.

  • @jinxjinx2 What no i appreciate good slow music, as a matter of fact i rather dislike the fast solos. Im from Ireland and this is on the radio alot! But seriously i appreciate simple music i just dont think that this is very good at all, as a matter of fact its a rather poor example of music from a band that, for reasons i cant understand, are very popular! Anyway clearly your one of those people who hates everybody elses opinion, as for me I respect yours so stop being so uptight!

  • @jinxjinx2 Two things.

    1. This is not a blues band

    2. The reason Interpol doesn't make th "Charts" is because the popular media is clogging the radio waves with re-runs of the same crap. i.e. Rap, (New)Pop, etc.

To truly have musical talent, you don't auto-tune your voice and have synthesizers make music for you. It is a good thing not to be mainstream. Now everyone has their opinion, and mine is mainstream is not the way to go. (I agree with your views SlankTV.)

  • I've never gave much attention to Interpol.

    I'm such a dumbass!

  • @ultramusic247 Well sort of, but Unknown Pleasures always gives me the idea of the performance and the production being somewhat at odds with each other. This song ends up sounding a little too seamless and bombastic for my taste, especially the stadium-style chorus repeat at the end.

  • I wouldn't say i like it but i keep returning which is a good sign, something is clicking

  • this band makes every day better..

  • How can you not like this?

  • Well, first you listen to "Obstacle 2" or "Not Even Jail" or "The Lighthouse", and ruminate on how awesome those songs are. Then you listen to this stinking mess in conjunction with that other piece of shit "Barricade" and consider how dull, bloated and over-produced the pair are. And finally, you come to the conclusion that Interpol have jumped the fucking shark.

  • @sockpuppetmartinez talking about lazy listeners... So you assume that Interpol made 3 great albums, why theyll miss this time, being the talented musicians they are?? They are the same persons you know? They havent changed, only improved over time. This album is not easy, and is not for the narrow-minded or lazy listeners.

  • Yeah, have fun with your shit music lol.

  • @sockpuppetmartinez dude if you wanna troll, go to a justin bieber song, because this sir, is a peice of art, and 844 people would agree with me on that ;)

  • @rvnneto91 im probably one of those lazy listeners you speak of... ive listened to this song 3 times and got bored of it after the first minute... but its amazing if you give it a chance

  • I love it..not so much barricade...Can't wait to see them in LA!

  • why do i hate interpol (everytime) at the beginning of listening to their new stuff?

but after the first 7-10 replays of the songs i cannot hear anything else for several weeks. and anything else looks like the dumpest musik i ever heard.

    ?

  • @niels0607

    Amen

  • I do not see, what you see in INTERPOL. Just some other american band trying to sound all Indie & British. Yes they are somwhat good, but they give me no "Eargasm", or make me want to buy their album..they try? But i just not see that lamp over my head telling me WOW JULIA THIS IS SO GOOD!

  • @MademoiselleJools that is because you have no taste in music. LOL!!! Just kidding. I am one who cant get enough of Interpol. Give it time and listen to some older stuff and it will grow on you like a wart. A really, really goooood wart.

  • @MademoiselleJools ahh just listen to their old stuff and you will start liking them, if you start listening to Interpols new stuff im sure you wont understand why so many people like em soo you need to start from the beggining... TURN ON THE BRIGHT LIGHTS album :D

  • @KxK96 I diiidd.

    I still don´t see it sawry D;

The only song which is alright would be C´mere.

  • @MademoiselleJools Oh yeah C mere is so ... lovely ;) , well , hehe no need to apologize :P , Interpol isnt for everyone n im not saying ure wrong just for not liking em (sorry bout my english btw)

    Have a nice day :)

  • @KxK96 haha alrighty :)

    ´tis all good ;)

    You too.

  • I think I just peed a little......unfucking believable.........AMAZING!!!!

  • The first few notes sounds like the beginning of "All the Pretty Faces" by the Killers, but this is infinitely better.

  • @elizabetoorose Yeah, that's the first thing I noticed. I love both Interpol and the Killers so much. I think this and All the Pretty Faces are even. Both remind me of the other and it's just awesome.

  • I completely forgot the word "said" in that first sentence. I apologize.

  • Whoever Muse is bad band needs some kind of musical training. Interpol is my favorite band but Muse is second on my list. If you think Muse is a shitty band, then you obviously haven't listened through Showbiz or Origin of Symmetry. As for Interpol they always continue to pump out quality music no matter what. They never cease to amaze me.

  • This song is long, lazy and boring. I fucking love interpol's first batch of albums, but this is just tired. Obviously they are not infallible.

  • @bilbomarks Does it need to be short, awake and exciting to be a good song? Take "Lighthouse" and "Wrecking Ball" for example. It's not too different from what's going on here and they're from earlier albums.

On a personal note. It seems to me like Mr.Banks has became increasingly confident in his ability. Here and on "Barricade", it's almost as if he's starting to test his vocal range. I'm impressed.

  • @rraabbeeoo Not interested in minute experimental semantics as much as most. What I stated was my opinion and I was completely sincere when I expressed it. Personally, I am partial to bands with a good, creative, bassist. Something that is completely gone now (has been since OLTA, but I barely tolerated it then). The guitar riffs in this song are pure stagnation. Note progressions and melodies that start and go nowhere. Not everything that Interpol shit out is going to be good. I accept that.

  • @bilbomarks Fair play. I'm more interested in progression and it leads me to point out the lack of validity that the word "stagnation" has in relevance to this song/band. Every note that hits the page is a progression. There's no such thing as a bassist or even a musician that lacks creativity either. Two separate bassists, two separate creative inputs. Your opinion of good and bad is yours and I respect that. I would rather listen to this than an album that sounded similar to it's predecessor.

  • @rraabbeeoo My comment of the bassist was more implicative of the bass lines being subdued, both sonically and technically. The bass lines were buried in the mix because there was nothing there. Just a lazy root note. Take early david bowie for example. Because of the pronounced, melodic bass the music is 1000X more interesting. That goes for anything the Beatles did as well. Also you mentioned there was a second bassist? I did not know that. Makes sense though.

  • @bilbomarks The bassist part I take back. I was misinformed. The point still stands though. I can agree with most of what you're saying, but I'm keen on the way this song seems like it's about to kick off and it sort of slips away. Where that might be perceived as a bad thing...it's right up my street. I'm a Bowie fan too so I get what you mean about the early material but like I said, natural progression forces change and whatever form it comes in it's usually hard to adjust lol.

  • @rraabbeeoo I'll wait until they progress into something I can listen to. I think we have to agree to disagree on this one.

  • @rraabbeeoo I completely agree with your personal note, i'm loving Paul's range he never really showed before, good to see he's trying to be a bit more melodic with his lines.

  • @rraabbeeoo Both Lighthouse and Wrecking Ball are not from previous album(s). They are both from the most recent album. Your argument is flawed. To say its not so different from Our Love to Admire is an obvious statement, but this is not the Interpol from Turn on the Bright Lights and Antics. Period.

  • @DHidalgo91 It's no difference what album the songs are on, it's the individual songs themselves I was concerned about. It's a comparison. I noted the similarity in these songs to lights which seems fair to me. Regardless, the band have progressed into something I really enjoy and that's not likely to change so arguing at this point is invalid.

  • @rraabbeeoo im not trying to be mean because i totally agree about this wonderful song, but i dont think that paul banks is doing more with his voice. watch their live performance on dave letterman and the synth player sings the high part

  • @bitterbum1 I think you might be thinking of "Barricade"? That's all I could find on letterman. The synth guy sounds awful on that video and on the album it sounds a LOT like Paul singing that part.

  • I love Interpol and new album. Turn on the Bright Lights > Interpol > OLTA > ANTICS

  • i downloaded their whole album as a torrent and i am actually very excited about the direction they are headed. it is no TOTBL but its darker and better than OLTA and is very close to Anitcs.

  • this song is powerful

  • Here are some things I hear instead of what's listed above:

"I want you to police me" instead of "I won´t you to police me"

"Now that you made my day" instead of "now that you mean.. my day"

"No harm it seems to be left so free...not today" instead of

"No harm it seems to be less so free...not today"

"Peaceful eyes drawn away from me, drawn away from me" instead of "Peaceful lifes run away from me, run away from me"

Just my $0.02. Thanks for the lyrics. You articulated things I couldn't hear.

  • i love this song, dark , misterious ,starts slow and just builds . i love all their albums

my fav band after depeche mode.

  • @AlanNegative i really hope so,now i'm just gonna wait till the album comes out

  • wtf happened to interpol??,this is no obstacle 1,this is no say hello to the angels,no c'mere,no public pervert,no pace is the trick!!! they can't do this to me!! muse and interpol were my last hope in music and they letting me down... fuck!!

  • @MrMilkyMonster Well, if Muse was your last hope in music, you let yourself down. Don't blame Interpol.
