Okay, so... I was nine years old when this game came out. I know it's a horrible mess, but I actually enjoyed it at the time. And yes, with practice you could win just about every time.

Actually, despite its many flaws, I really don't think this game deserves the hate that it gets. Its role in the videogame industry collapse and the infamous burial of E.T. cartridges in the desert have sealed its place in infamy, but it is far removed from being the worst game ever.

This game isn't too bad actually. You just need to read the manual to understand what everything does... this is an early 80s adventure style game on Atari and stands up pretty well to other games of its genre and of its era. I personally think "Raiders of the Lost Ark", also for Atari, is a much shittier game.

Most people just see the Crash and forget that ET, for all its flaws and for being made in six weeks or something, was actually ahead of its time. It had an actual goal besides scoring points until you died, and it got multiple uses out of its one button depending on ET's location. Not bad, given that it was made in 1982 back when endless point-scorers like Pac-Man and space shooters were still king.

The reason this game sucks for 1 is that when Speilburg Gave Atari the rights to produce a game, he only gave them till christmas which was only 6 WEEKS AWAY!!! and most games took an adverage of 2-3 MONTHS!!! Plus two it was the Atari 2600, the graphics wern't that great to start with.
