my guess for an actualy theatre release would be Fall 2010 at the earliest... they might screen it at the 2010 LA anime expo, they did it for 1.0 anyways. Im pretty confident that funi will purchase the rights for the american/dvd release, which might not be till next year.

I'm waiting for the English Dub. So far EVERY TV ep of EVA, and the movie End of Eva are in the US, and I believe the Rebuild EVA movies are coming to the US too.

You watched the wrong movie. You must have watched the End of Evangelion, which was a extended ending for the 26 episode series of Evangelion made in the 1990s.

This trailer is for part 2 in the remake, titled Rebuild of Evangelion instead of Neon Genesis Evangelion, which is meant to be a 4-movie retelling of the story with a refined plot.

1.0 kept to the original series.

2.0 veered off into another direction.

it was great even in cam version.

(i hadnt seen the series in over a year when i started watching rebuild. but im almost positive 2.0 was entirely new stuff.)

I loved the original series and I'm sure I'll enjoy this whole new rebuild as well... but I think it would have been the best to keep the series the way they were meant to be (the 26 episodes and the 2 films). This remake, altough being interesting, brings down the myst and the cult around this classic masterpiece.

How does it look lighthearted?? I mean it's just a trailer...secondly, the Evangelion series is old, and no continuity is consistent. Instead of thinking so hard about inconsequential snipits presented in a trailers, how's about waiting until it comes out, watching it, enjoying it and moving on. Last, there was always a bit of a lighthearted aspect to certain arcs of the Eva storyline, just never really a constant.

We should thank Hideaki anno, who delivered the classic for us, even when he was not in the state. (this was the main cause why Evangelion was so deep, for all of us)

Time to think our lives over as Anno did.

We should accept the remakes, because the feeling that comes from these works, will move our hearts once again...

@TheBuddha94 well 1.0 was released in japan in sep 07, they showed it in the 08 LAanime expo subbed, and in 09 they showed it again at the LAanime expo but with the english dub, if all goes well with funi (BUYTHE1.0DVD) they should have a dubbed/subbed screening of 2.0 in the 2010 LA anime expo.
