R.I.P to the crew. fucking horrible way to die, no one should ever die like that no one!... oh apart from terrorists - but thats because they're assholes :)
Rudders, FADECs, transitions and all sorts of bullshit from people whose only experience is flight sim. What happened was windshear. No airplane is immune from windshear. Windshear that close to the ground will always result in an accident. Making light of the accident or questioning the pilots experience is disrespectful to those who lost their lives doing what a lot of you wankers sit behind a computer to simulate. Either knowledge or STFU.
The landing speed of an MD 11,is greater then that of all other airplanes.due to the smaller then normal rudder.and the fact the #2 engine=weight.on paper this aircraft could not fly.the FADAC was incorporated , to help with the flight handling of this aircraft.otherwise she's a flying brick. RIP.
@slim471 WTF are you babbling about? Landing speed of an MD-11 is EXACTLY 11 knots faster than a DC-10 and your statment about the #2 engine is non-sensical! The FADEC is the electronic device which controls the engine and has nothing to do with flight characteristics, other than controlling the engines from the cockpit by wires. There is nothing wrong with the vertical stabilizer authoity of an MD-11 during landing. Please stow your babble until you know what you are talking about!
Definitely something wrong with the plane esp when landing in less than ideal conditions. Another MD11 crahsed in almost identical manner in Hong Kong during a storm.
@trent8002003 Many of the MD-11 accidents are a result of transition pilots who have flown the DC-10 for many years, left seating in the MD-11. Douglas did not redesign the wing of the MD-11, the aircraft has a higher landing speed with some quirky handling characterisitcs during the flair. The chief pilot for World Airways told me the hardest thing to do with the transition pilots is to have them keep their landing speeds at or above 156 kts. Otherwise the dreaded landing/flare stall occurs.
@thedayitriedtodie Dont the reversers only able to engauge when the weight of the plane connects the reversers power in the landing gear? so they cant be run during flight?
@thedayitriedtodie The plane actually touch down (That could be why the engines in reverse) then bounce two time before rolling over, Other videos shows that.
I actually know a guy that crashpadded with the FO that died in this crash in PANC...very sad, as someone said the MD-11 is horrible in Crosswinds...RIP
@beeno7710 as you can see a relativly high cross wind at the airport. The aircraft was known to have "sloppy" responses from the aileron and elevator during final approach due to its design. just before touch down a gust of wind in the 60-70mph range hit the aircraft and due to bad respsonse on the control surfaces the pilots started to lose control, attempted to correct, overcorrected, and lost control causing prot wingtip stall and thereby rolling the aircraft on its roof.
It scares me how easily planes catch fire

They caught that microburst at the worst imaginable time. May they rest in peace. God, I hate NRT!

This is so chilling to watch :( A whole plane..hundreds of tonnes turning over like that :( RIP
jlebesis 9 months ago
I can’t believe this was caused by wind shear?!?!. Do MD11’s often turn over like this?

wow amazing footage.

These aircraft bounce like fuck, especially when empty. Thrust reverse would not slow the aircraft down that quickly.
Sterlingjob 11 months ago
the intense heat from the fire had left visible "wrinkles" through out the plane sheet metals.

I see so many MD-11s accidents looks like this plane is hard to handle with crosswind

1:03 isn't the engine on the right wing on "reverse"??
thedayitriedtodie 1 year ago
@thedayitriedtodie
Yeah, because when landing, reverse thrust causes the plane to slow down faster
