  • Regina Resnik, Astrid Varnay und Christl Golz gehörten zu den besten Interpretinnen in der Wiener Staatsoper

  • Astrid Varnay is a grotesque gorgon in this role. She appears in the DVD filmed version of this, and her rictus-like movements are chilling. Whatever she lacks vocally, she more than compensates for histrionically. Varnay OWNS this role. Resnik is a fine Klytamnestra, but Varnay virtually disappears into the character. She's positively terrifying.

  • is this on DVD anywhere?

  • I missed this for 2 years?!On film nevertheless!So much thanks.

  • I still think Varnay owns this role. demonic psychotic and terrifying.

  • @raigekimaru Yes, Varnay is a monster in this role

  • Wonderful in every way! Up there with Modl and Jean Madeira

  • stunning - superb - what an artist

  • I am related to Regina.

    I'm not lying

  • how nice for you...

  • The BEST .......she is realy THE BEST !!!

  • What delicious intention. Every expression and word is colored by Resnik's masterful interpretation. For me, the definitive Klytamnestra.

  • @Gigglingatagas look @ astrid varnay. she is not to be topped

  • i'm listening to this woman's voice her technique in such dramatic piece make the rest seem forgotten..the best elektra i've seen or listen to..

  • kutcha's voice is incredible

  • She is... perfect.

  • Yes, yes, Cramnella. There really is no other Klytamnestra, with the possible exception of Loenie Rysanek.

  • Rysanek is magnificent in this role, no doubt!

  • Kuchta's Elektra (conductor Leopold Ludwig )

is out on DVD as also her "Faerberin" from "Frau ohne Schatten" conductor Von Karajan.

Kuchta had a great career ; reigning Hogh Dramatische at the Berlin Opera for 20 years and sang 7 seasons at the Met.! She had to live in the shadow of Nilsson though as they both sang the same repertoire.

  • I saw an unforgettable performance of Elektra at Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires, when I was 14 in 1966. Kuchta, Jean Madeira and Hildegard Hillebrecht. Excellent the 3 of them. Kuchta had only a misfortune, to belong to the same generation as Nilsson. Her voice if anything was an easier one !!! Marvellous !

  • Regina Resnik was the greatest Klytemnestra in my experience; how wonderful to have this footage! Thank you, thank you, thank you for posting this treasure. Resnik was a complete singing actress. Who is the marvelous conductor?

  • More Gladys Kuchta please!! I have this tape (1964) Anyone have Kuchta's Turandot???

  • A friend of mine here in Argentina has Kuchta with Caballé at Teatro Colón in " Turandot ". tenor Dimiter Uzunov Previtali conducting. Kuchta's Turandot was also wonderful. She had the easiness of Nilsson in the highest notes and the body of a Varnay in the middle. She was absolutely formidable ! If I can do something to send you the CD, not now, I will do it.

  • I also NOW love Glady's Kuchta's voice!

  • OMG...I agree with Cramnella...this was excellent timing with a wonderful sacred monster like Resnik

  • Amazing. Apparently a 1970 tv production. A little hard to see on youtube, but I assume they're miming? Has it ever been commercially available?

  • OH GOD!! THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!! I have wanted to see Resnik's Klytemnästra forever. No one can touch her in this role. Is this available for purchase?
