the hit on mitchell wasn't dirty... i didn't like it... but dirty and malicious are two different things, he came in with the shoulder but popped up the elbow before going into contact... he had intent to injure in that hit.

Ottawa can beat Toronto, and has. Before we trash the Sens I mean they're fifth in the East. Conf. while we sit at the dead fucking bottom at 15th. In fact, the way the Leafs have played this year, especially offensively we can't compete with the Sens. I mean, we have Kessel and that's basically damn near our only offensive salvation. While the Sens atleast have firepower coming from Alfreddson, Spezza, Kovalev, Cullen, Fisher, Michalek...

It's too bad our defensive pieces have had injury problems and trouble meshing, if we can get Phaneuf, Kabby, Schenn, Komisarek, Beauchemin, Van Ryn/Exelby/Gunnarson/Finger on the same page I think there's no doubt what so ever who has the best defense in the entire league, if they all play to their ability and pinnacle. That would be the only card I see we'd hold over the Sens or any other team for that matter.

Ok, there are a lot of controversial things to discuss about this game, but I'd like to know everyone's opinion about one that kind of got ignored because the powerplay went nowhere. In the third, Shannon put the puck over the glass behind the bench, resulting in a delay of game penalty. Shannon plead his case, that the puck *would have* hit glass, had it been at any other point on the ice, but because the glass is a few feet back behind the bench, it went over. That delay of game rule is stupid. It's sort of like knocking the net off it's moorings, it happens and context should be observed.

If you intentionally shoot the puck into the bench play should be carried on as it would if the puck were Iced. Put the puck in the the offenders zone and don't allow a line change, it would be that freakin' simple. 2 minutes and a power play is a bit much to me unless it's blatantly obvious. You shouldn't get penalized in a tight situation by an accident.

That goal should have counted...it went off of the Leafs high-stick, then struck the Senators d-mans head, which should have made it a live puck...then Kessel buried it home.

The hit was all shoulder, he won't get a suspension....you have to keep your head on a swivel when a guy like Neil is out there with you.

The hit wasn't necessary... Mitchell was in a vulnerable position and Neil took advantage of it. It was "clean" according to the rules... but it was a head hit.

Not much you can do about the hit now. Just hope Mitchell is ok.

But Neil COULD receive a suspension just because it's Chris Neil... but I don't think he will...

i lot of Chris Neil's hits look like head shots, but they are really not. And no one on NBC tonite and even on Sportsnet are saying its a head shot. They are more blaming Mitchell for having his head down. Look how low Mitchell's head is to where Chris Neil is.

Mitchele's head was down because he was reaching for the puck and Neil made no attempt to let up on the hit.

And TSN and SportsNet called it a headshot but it's deemed a "clean" hit under the rules. So it's technically a hockey hit, but its these kinds of hits the NHL is looking at trying to minimize... but yes I agree the fault is also on Mitchell for putting himself in that position.
