@WeCamefortheDead -- You'll still need to cut the electrode. I suppose you could cast it in copper using a casting process starting with a silicone off of the face, or an abraded electrode but you'd need a model.

katayan20......the machine will mill enything as long as the cutting tool is harder then the work piece..for tatanium you need to use carbide cutting tool of even better high speed steel cutting tool..however 2 -1.5cm is a very thick mask ..the indentation around the eyes would be so high that your vision will be narowed to about 60 degrees insted of the normal 200 degrees plus if there will be no cushoning on the inside a projectile like a rock can still kock you out due to transfer of energy
hey brother, can that machine cut a titanium? i want to have a titanium mask. actually i am a police officer and it's been a dream for me to have a titanium mask to be use in police operations. i know that a titanium mask could help me avoid getting hit on my face or in my head. perhaps a titanium mask around 2cm or 1.5cm thick.
Really nice job any chance u could email me the IGES model as Ive never tryed any 3D milling and just fancy having a go on our XYZ machine !!! What sort of cutter did u use to produce the face ??
My lecturer Graham T Smith made a model of his face for machining as part of a method of making a perfect facial mask using only laser scanning technology (so as not to necessitate a patient being subject to a full face mask while the cast set). Perhaps it is his face you've somehow obtained a model of?!
DOwnload a program called Facegen, take front and side pictures of your face and import them into the program, line up the dots to the correct spots and execute, you then have a 3d model of your face. get the full version (paid or cracked) to be able to export it to a .obj, if you have google sketchup, download the .obj import plugin and import the model, rotate and erase off back of head, draw a flat box under it, export to .stl, open in cam, the cnc machine it
@leehound hi. just wanna ask. sorry if this is going to be dumb, but, do you recycle/reuse the leftover metals? if not what do you do with them usually? thanks. o lastly, how much is a machine like this nowadays? can you buy it even if you're not company based? i mean just for your own?
An industrial strength milling machine able to mill solid metals are expensive ... 3-axis is maybe $15000 and depends on the size of the milling area too.
A personal "bench top" milling machine can be had for much less money, but quality will vary. If you buy something from China, it will likely not come with software support, and its tolerances will be bad.
Roland MDX-540 or MDX-40 are relatively expensive, but easy to use.
@BreakWatcher CNC milling machines greatly vary in cost, It depends on the application of the machine really. you can expect to easily spend 100k-250k for a brand new CNC milling machine like this. And to answer your question about scrap metal, the chips are usually swept up into a hopper or bin and thrown away. High valued metals like aluminum, bronze, brass, etc are usually swept up and kept in 50 gallon drums and sold for scrap.
@BreakWatcher for a hass machine they range from 60000 to like millions, you can buy them for your house or whatever you want, almost all shops will put all waste into barrels and scrap them for cash
@BreakWatcher A new cnc machine with 3 axes. X-Y-Z costs about 250.000 dollars... and i think you can buy one for yourself. if you have the right sum of money
@BreakWatcher They ALWAYS recycle left over materials. Factories hate waste because it costs them money. If they cant use the scrap part they recycle it. Anyone can buy them if you have a money. You can get one for cheaper but I dont know if it could cut metal.
@BreakWatcher The metal that is milled off is usually swept up and thrown away. Yes you can buy a machine like this for personal use check out Grizzly machine tools. As for price it depends what you want you could modify a $500 mini mill to be cnc controlled and come out at under $1,00, but a decent size machine will be around $5,000 and a high end model can be $30,000 plus.
@BreakWatcher a machine is usually $4000-8000 for a small desktop based machine for home use. yes, you can buy one on your own, just reminding you that they're expensive and unless you are running a metal part making business, it really won't be a good investment.

First, leftovers should be recycled.
Second, there are a lot of mills that have been converted to CNC, not all that hard.
I have an old Bridgeport mill that I converted.
Got the mill for around $200 and the stepper motors are from old computer printers.
The computer that runs things is whatever I am using at the moment.
But there were days of setting it up to get it running.
