Born Dec of 69'. One of my earliest memories is hearing this song on a pair of book case speakers. I was three and this has been one of my favorite songs since.
GOLDEN OLDERS YES BUT U KNO WAT PEOPLE IF U DONT LIKE IT WELL U HAVE TO DEAL WITH BAD BAD LEROY BROWN HE IS BETTER THAN OLD KING KONG SOOOOOOOOOOOOO COME FIND LEROY BROWN HE WILL KICK UR ASS
Coolest dude to strum the strings. What a storyteller, what a singer-songwriter. Beautiful person. If there were only Jim Croce-type peeps in this world, there would be no war.
WW loved this song. He lived it before I was born. He passed of old age in '81, but dang he loved this song. He was kinda my grampa during my early teens, and I am so lucky he turned me on to Jim Croce. I am a better person because of Jim's many great contributions to humanity.
I'm a 15 year old boy. I'm the only one of any of my friends who has any idea who Jim Croce is. I apologize for my generation fucking with music so badly.
He was a racist. Even his wife (Ingrid) said he would invite Klansman to his house for dinner. I would never wish for the demise of anyone BUT if you are a racist many times Allah will seek vengance.
@TempeSoldier123 He was of Italian background.. and they have very strong beliefs and drum Catholicism into their kids so I think he was just a genuine person that liked everyone. He liked to know everything about everyone and would sing about them. The Klansmen just would of thought of him as another outsider being of foreign desent. The KKK would not have accepted him. Simple.
@1903xBlackxVelvetx Huh? I have no idea what you are talking about. You went from Catholicism to Klansmen thinking he was an outsider. PLEASE deal with what I said and do your research. He was a racist that had Klansman in his house often . HIS OWN WIFE EVEN SAID SO.
@TempeSoldier123 I thought I was pretty clear with what I said, but like @txsfn47 said the Klansmen would not have associated with him because he was a Catholic Italian. What his wife said could just be a lie. Rock 'n' roll wives resented their husbands lifestyles. You are only aloud into the KKK if you are of WASP Breeding which means White Anglo-Saxon Protestant. So basically, Fair skin, Blue eyes and Light hair.
@1903xBlackxVelvetx You are correct. Ingrid never said that and more importantly Jim Croce(Philly boy) had nothing to do with the KKK.Believe what you want; but Leroy Brown was an actual black guy Croce ran across and wrote a song about it.
every time it was my dad and i in a car he would play non stop croce it was amazing, i always asked why he was attracted to a girl built like a refidgerater with a head, and my dad never knew why
sknyrd song is about a flea and not about getting rid of me. this song? put it with come together-add chipped animals, everyone making money, spilling oil, starting wars, covering stuff up why do i waste my time even writing dont know does everyone already know this stuff is anyone out for one common good?? not justice- just elimination of pain and painful places
When i was little my mom would play this and rapid roy the stock car boy on the way to school and 6 year old me would belt out the lyrics and try to sing along. now i'm a musician and im in a couple of bands and going to school for music recording. Even though he died long before i was born he had the biggest impact on me out of any artist out there. Thanks mom for showing me such an amazing inspiration
:P i was playing this song on thanksgiving and my grandmother came into my room and started singing this song word for word. Ah, its good to be able to relate to the generation before!
this guy was one of the best song writers ever. His wit & blue collar thinking stand out in every song. God Bless them guys who dont deny their roots !!!
Funny, but Jim ends the song by still saying Leroy was the baddest man in the whole damn town.
"Leroy looked like a jigsaw puzzle with a couple of pieces gone." He never said what the other guy in the fight looked like! Maybe Leroy won after all!
I see Bieber's name on every single video I look at any more. That little twat will fade into obscurity like many who have come before him, truly great music like Croce is timeless. Just enjoy the song and let the little shit make his dollars and disappear.
my dad said after you listen to american pie, you gotta listen to jim, so here i am! you may ask, why you with yo dad? im 10, so i believe its okay! God this is real music! Frickin JB ruins everything! i bet hes a girl... not the point! Old music, this is the life, chillin on the couch, listening to old music, getting ready to go shopping! im a girl! Cant wait, but till then imma listen to this and Don Mclean, possibly some Nirvana, maybe.
I like Jim Croce because he is like the Drake Bell of the 60's and 70's. My dad has a CD of Jim and I really appreciate his songs and his talent. jim Croce and Drake Bell are the best indie singers i know. they are very talented
i was born in the south side of chicago and i met leroy brown in 1977 and yes that was a bad muthafucka but he got his ass whoop by this guy name daddy smooth another bad muthafucka frum miami florida. every since that happen i lost all respect for leroy brown and left to move to miami florida and daddy smooth hired me and i never had a problem since 1980 lmao. they need to make a song about daddy smooth that was and still is a bad muthafucka even in his late 60's the brother still pack a punch
