dependes on whar you want i started on a full eletric but go to a music store and ask to play some try all sizes but make sure you can reach the 1st fret and make sure you can play the 15th fret without buzzing or get a friend to come with you hope this helps

For the scratches try to get some wood polish or something like that on your guitar shop...

Capo is not essential, is just a useful thing to make the guitar experience more fun...sometimes when learning you get tired of playing the same song in the same key so you stick the capo and play it in another key...it's nice when you're getting bored...also if you want to sing and play, with the capo you can adapt the song to your voice...
