This is when pre, half and post game shows were solely about football...no over-production, no stupid comedy bit, or seven songs with explosions...JUST FOOTBALL
That Colts-Browns game would, of course, come down to an Earnest Byner fumble that killed a potential game-winning drive (and would prove to be an unfortunate sign of things to come in the AFC Championship game).
@donde08: Oh, Montana was a badass, huh? I don't think so. Like it is real hard to complete 20 passes in a row when you are throwing five-yard slants and swing passes all day.
As for the Steelers, They were 8-5 after they won this game and the Charger game, but losses to the Oilers and Browns in their final two games knocked them out. It was amazing that they got that far with Mark Malone at QB, though.
THE AFC SO BELONGS ON NBC SPORTS AND THE NFC ON CBS SPORTS AND MONDAY NIGHT ON THE OLD VERSION OF ABC SPORTS This was The GLORY Years ON NFL on NETWORK TELEVISION How Much I MISS IT
Brings back a lot of memories. When there were both baseball and football Cardinals in St. Louis, the Rams called Southern California home, the now Tennessee Titans were known as the Houston Oilers, and the Indianapolis Colts were NFL punching bags. Things have a changed a lot over the last 20-plus years.
@SuperBowlExpert Interesting, although I guess by that point the Steelers were a somewhat average team; IIRC their last Super Bowl appearance by that point was 1980.
@Nickle98499 Yeah...the Steelers made the playoffs four times under Chuck Noll since winning that Super Bowl in January of 1980. Those appearances came in 1982, 1983, 1984, and 1989. The furthest they got was the AFC Championship game in 1984 (Jan. '85).
Also, my Ravens were still the "Original" Cleveland Browns as well as the Raiders were still in the Coliseum in L.A. prior to going back to Oakland, the Lions were still in Pontiac, the Eagles were still in the Vet, the Skins were still in R.F.K. and the Seahawks were in the AFC and in the Kingdome.

Interesting to see a Home Depot commercial from 1987. I don't remember them popping up in the North Jersey area until the mid-late 90's.

In the grasp...What an asinine rule. Patriots would be champs in 07 if they hadn't got rid of that rule, thank the Lord.

@DUBS82 Amen!!!! That said, MLB should be on NBC (not FOX!!!).

@giantlew I disagree (to an extent). I think that the MLB should be on whatever channel Al Michaels is on.

Love that cool effect for the peacock in the NFL Live logo.

@Tubewings I miss that lovely effect. Now that NBC is airing the NFL again, I wished they would bring it back.

This was back when you KNEW the Seahawks would beat the Steelers rather than have the official screw things up.
Nickle98499 2 years ago
FYI-Steelers won the game referenced in this clip, not the Seahawks. The final score was 13-9.

A rare time that the Seahawks didn't win a game against a decent time back then; although I don't know how good or bad the Steelers were in 1987.
Nickle98499 2 years ago
The Steelers went 8-7 in 1987 but failed to make the playoffs.

@SuperBowlExpert I guess the 80's was a somewhat down decade for the Steelers; although they did make the playoffs four times.
Nickle98499 1 year ago
@jwp1002steel Interesting, the Steelers actually won, although 13-9 probably wasn't a very exciting final score.
