Mario wasn't included because they didn't want confusion with the newly released Mario and Sonic series.. It makes no sense to me either, Mario in his Kart seems like an absolute no brainer. Oh well. Maybe in a sequel. With more variety of tracks.

Metal Sonic and mario were originally going to be in it with Mario as a Wii exclusive.

I've seen Metal Sonic's ride. It is some sort of hover craft, and his All-Star move was called "Metal Booster" and would probably work like Super sonic.

Mario had no official image. He would probably be in a kart, and His All-Star, would be Yoshi, Mega Mushroom, Fluud's turbo nozel, or fire flower (Shoots fire out of hands to act as a Rocket sending Mario forward.
