  • Bloody brilliant says it all! I love this song! And Mavis Staples has such an awesome voice. Dammit, I could fall in love with her. I wonder how old she is today?!

  • This is what music sounds like, bloody brilliant. Can't be beat no never ever.

  • Levons arms are the same size as his drumsticks, still love him.

  • holy shit, i've been listening to this song for 2 days. was never a fan of the band until now.

  • love how rick's elbow flys all over the place when he starts his verse

  • i want to make music like this

  • @cook476 me too

  • 35 years ago today. Time do fly, don't it?

  • crazy chester rick miss you

  • yea its just you.

  • @edwinombac ok, 1. you dont know rick dankos name. 2. you dont appreciate his singing. please just dont speak again. ever.

  • @edwinombac you might not like his singing, most of us do. Trust me...

  • @edwinombac You won't find too many who agree with you about his singing, since The Band holds such high respect among fans of that time. I always thought his job on this was a little to spastic and quirky myself. The "chic" you are referring to is Mavis Staples and the others with her are the famous Staples Singers. The old man is Pops Staples, their father. Check out a few vids on Youtube, you might like them.

  • @terrybeaton thanks, spastic and quirky, exactly LOL, good one, and thanks for the information about the other singers , looking up more stuff with them right now.

  • @edwinombac Actually, he's the only reason that I listen to this version of The Weight, apart from the Staple Singers. The reason he moves like that is because of constant pain from injuries he got from a car accident he was in during the sixties. It's also the reason he took so many drugs.

  • Like Cocker says,"Rock and Roll,,ha ha"

  • why cant bands be that good anymore or ever again

  • Surely the greatest music film ever made. Martin Scorcese's most under rated work,.

  • Truly a great performance - improved immensely by the addition of The Staple Singers (with Mavis in the lead) -- but it doesn't reach true musical nirvana until the last 12 seconds - for me one of the greatest moments in music history!! From The Last Waltz!!!

  • @1953jazzman

    ... when Mavis whispers: ...beautiful... :-)) <3

    I miss Rick!

  • @tarrera2005

  • I love it!

  • I love this song. I think the staple singers add so much to this classic song.

  • A true classic!

  • crunchy! absolutely love this version..can't decide which i like more though, the Gillian Welch with Old Crow or this one..either way both are sooo groovist!

  • @mothulicka , are you kidding me ? this is a mid western movie classic
