i rewatched the movie now that i'm actually an adult and it's such a tragic movie! i seriously cried at the end, perhaps happy that he fulfilled his task of perhaps sacrificing himself to his trickster god.

The acting of John Lone in this excellent movie is Oscar worthy. He had NO where to draw from to create the character of Charlie yet truly makes me feel I am watching a 40,000 year old man. This movie is true gem of the 80's and it's such a shame it was largely ignored.

I was thinking of this movie yesterday. I was x-country skiing in the backcountry in the Alps feeling very isolated and this film came to my mind. This was a great great film, I wish somebody would post more of it. And what irony that this was made in 1984, 7 years before Otzi was discovered in the Alps in 1991. What a coincidence!

Excellent movie! John Lone was extraordinary as the Neanderthal man and didn't get much credit for it. The movie also had an incredible soundtrack by Australian composer Bruce Smeaton who also did Circle of Iron.

I saw this in the theater back in the day. I couldn't wait for it to come out on DVD. Then one day in Suncoast i saw it and snagged it up quick! Unfortunately the DVD picture quality is not much better than VHS, there isn't even a menu, WTF Universal!?

that's sad that Universal didn't care that much about such a great movie. it's a better movie than many they promote in DVDs, with their Behind the Scenes, Commentary from the Director, extra scenes that didn't make it to the movie because of time, at least they should have put in there a menu of scenes selections, that isn't so hard.
